  1. Pat, sorry to hear of your loss.

    VL- thanks for the updated.

Jason & Anon- OFFICIAL measurements have to be taken for this contest, and the official locations are the airports. It is what it is. I have pointed out seasons when the Airport got more snow than the lake shore communities.

  2. agree with Jason, the Rochester Airport is the last place to measure snow. I live in a suburb up on the lakeshore and we got 23 inches by Saturday night. Great site!

  3. I moved out of Syracuse last August and it's funny how much my attitude toward winter has changed. The winters where I live are nothing compared to that in the 'Cuse, as seen in this article from today's paper:

"So far, this winter is the fifth snowiest on record in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Here are area's snowiest winters (through February):

    • 53.9 inches in the winter of 1977-1978

    • 47.3 inches in 1976-1977

    • 46.3 inches in 1950-1951

    • 44.6 inches 1995-1996

    • 38.4 inches 2009-2010"

  4. Been waiting all weekend for an update. Then I realized that most other people have things like jobs and such that eat up their time. Then I realized that some people might actually have power outages and such. Hope things are good for everyone.

Checked NOAA stats this morning, just in case.

    Syracuse: 106"
    Rochester: 89.6"
    Binghamton: 78.6"
    Buffalo: 74.1"
    Albany: 45.2"

VL, reporting from Rochester for the Asnowciated Press.

  5. I just think the totals on this site should reflect the general average of the city, not one small area which happens to be the airport. But as I wrote before, I know it's all in fun. But I know in reality, Rochester should be 1st in the competition right now.

  6. So, I just checked NOAA observed snowfall to date for Rochester, and they put it at 86.6"

We got 11.8" of snow yesterday and it's still going today, though not as hard.

    Woot!

  7. Pat, we picked up about 19-20" on the east side of Roc today. Suprisingly about 6" this afternoon. Pretty decent storm. How bout you?

  8. I know what you mean, Jason. I live in Brighton, and it's been snowing non stop since about 10 last night. BIG BIG fluffy flakes. Snow is PILED up a good two feet on the roof of our parking garage. I could see grass yesterday afternoon. Today, I've got snow up to my knees. I'm 6'5".

But, remember, this is all in fun. It isn't supposed to be super accurate hyper realistic weather man stuff. This is "neener neener neener" material.

  9. What are you all doing up at 3:30am? 🙂

I believe the Bingo totals. I live on a hill in W. Windsor and we got hammered with two feet of snow. It's the most I have seen at this location since I moved here in 05.

The airport is also at high elevation.

  10. Yeah, I think things will change by tomorrow. We've been buried here in Rochester all day. They've had to clean the parking lot of my apartments twice already, and the walkways three times with snow blowers. There was at least a foot of snow on the top of the cars this morning at 6, and it's been replaced already. Now, this doesn't mean the same conditions were at the airport, but I'm willing to bet that Rochester's totals will be different by tomorrow morning.

  11. As usual, the storm "totals" will be a complete joke. The Rochester airport has received about 8.9 inches. At my house, only a 10 minute drive away, we had at least 15-17 inches.

  12. I gotta wonder about the official totals. I live in Vestal and until this storm hit, we hadn't had more than 12-15 inches all winter at my house. I'd shoveled all of three times before today, and only had enough to break out the snowblower with this Feb. 25th storm.

It's been nowhere near the 60+ inches reported at the airport.
