Syracuse Storms to Top – Over a Foot on the Season

PM Update – Well Rochester’s move into 3rd place was short lived.  The 5pm stats just came out and Buffalo had just enough to move back into 3rd.  Syracuse is showing another 3.2 inches for today so far which puts them over the one foot mark for the 2012 – 2013 snow season.  It’s looking like a white Christmas for a few of the cities 🙂

Syracuse was able to claim the top spot on the snow hill picking up 7.6 inches of snow yesterday and a few more inches today.  Last seasons snow champ Rochester knocked Buffalo down a spot with their 4.3 inches of snowfall. Looking at the forecast for the next week or so it looks like there could be a lot of changes coming up in the lineup.

I don’t think the overnight snow totals are added in the stats we just posted so chances are the totals should be going up a little higher.  Yesterday was an awesome day here in the Syracuse area as far as the snow goes.  IMO there is nothing like a decent amount of snow along with some pretty gusty winds and I couldn’t wait to get out in it yesterday and last night.  It was nice hearing the sound of the snow plow dropping the blade at around 4:32 in the morning.  It was also nice to see the sleds at my local watering hole last night 😉  I’ll try to get another update in later on when the stats come in.

Happy Winter and Hello Snow

10 PM Update –  It looks like Syracuse slipped into the lead but we’ll wait until the stats come out tomorrow for all of the cities.  The stats are updated as of between 4:00 and 5:00 Pm for today with Albany not reporting.  Just off and on light snow in the Syracuse area so come tomorrow the king of the snow hill may still be up for grabs 😉

 

Firts off – WE’RE ALIVE 🙂  The Mayans had me sweating it out for awhile there, lol.  Happy Winter All!

Just a quick update for now seeing how most of the stats are from just yesterday and not the overnight.  .Buffalo grabbed enough snow to jump past Syracuse into 2nd place.  WTG Buffalo and is this your season to take the golden prize?

Right now it looks like there is about 5 inches on the ground so far in Syracuse. Hopefully another 3-6 inches to come by the time it settles down. After the slow start we all have had so far there is a lot of snow totals to make up to get back to a normal season. I’ll get another snow total update in later when the National Weather Service posts them. GO SU!!!

Snow on the Way Will Records Be Broken

Just a heads up that I started up the National Snow Contest a couple weeks ago. The national snow contest is called the Golden Snow Globe and is for any city in the United States with a population of 100,000 + You can check it out HERE at the golden snow globe website.

Right now Rochester and Syracuse are knocking on the door of less than an inch of snowfall in one day record.  In other words both golden snowball cities haven’t gotten an inch or more so far this season.  The latest Syracuse has ever gone without an inch in one day is December 22nd.  As of yesterday this has been the second longest they have gone.

Rochester’s will break their latest snowfall total of less than an inch if they can hold off the snow until the 22nd.  The latest they have gone is Dec. 21st which was back in 1939.  This will be their 2nd best without an inch if they make it through today.  With snow in the forecast in the next couple of days it will be interesting to see if either of the cities can do it.

Less Snow This Season Than Last Season

It’s hard to believe but so far this season with the exception of Syracuse, most of us have less snow than we did last year at this time.  Good news for you snow haters but not so good news for the sledders and skiers.  I know Syracuse is close to setting a record for the longest days without at least an inch falling at one time.  I’ll have to look up and see how it’s going and what the records are for the other cities that haven’t seen an inch in a one day period so far this season..

It’s also hard to believe that Syracuse is the only city that has more than the last for the fact that they still haven’t had a day this season with at least an inch of snow and obviously neither has Rochester or Albany.  Rochester managed to slip out of the basement by the way picking up another tenth of snow since the last update 😉

I’m sure you all remember how lame the snow totals were last season with Rochester winning the Golden Snowball trophy with just 59.9 inches of snow.  Could this season be better?  That is depending on what you consider better of course?  Does better mean less snow or more snow?  For me it’s more snow and I’m hoping that things change pretty fast to get all of us back to our normal snowfall totals.  Here is how last season ended;

Rochester – 59.9
Syracuse – 50.6
Binghamton – 43.5
Buffalo – 36.7
Albany – 23.3

Below Average Snow But Above Last Seasons

I was just looking at the snow stats and all of the cities are below their normal snowfall averages for this time of year.  Could this be another season like the 2011 – 2012 snow season?  Could be but I don’t think it’s going to be.

I haven’t looked at last season but it seems to be colder more days than it was the last.  Plus right now with the exception of Albany all of our snow totals are over last season.  Not by a lot but we’re off to a slightly better start this season and it’s so early into the snow season.  Below is the difference from what the average snow totals should be for this time of year.

Albany is  -4 inches
Binghamton is -4.9
Buffalo is -10.2
Rochester is -10
Syracuse is -12.5

Let’s wait, hope and see if we can catch up to those stats some time in the near future 🙂  Have a Great weekend ev

Last Years Snow Champions in Last Place

OK, it’s a tie for last place but seeing how I get to list the cities I thought the snow chart looked better with The Rock at the bottom.  No, I’m not still upset that they stole, errr I mean won the trophy from Syracuse last season.  Alright, maybe just a little bit still but hey I just went alphabetically :p  Heh, Heh!

Keep an eye on Binghamton because they seem to be sneaking a little bit of snow in every time I do an update.  Kind of like how SU’s Triche has been doing this season with the points and how about Southerland on that 3 point run tying the Syracuse record with 9 3 pointers.  Anyways, I’ll need to pay more attention to my face book pals the national weather service when they post something.  Nothing has changed besides Rochester being in dead last right now 🙂 🙂  Oh yeah, I already said that huh.  I’m just trying to draw out ZR and a few of our other buddies who visit the site from Rochester.

It’s looking like a couple of warm days ahead but I’m sure they won’t last too long before we get back to the temps we should be getting.  Enjoy them while we can.
