Updated 7 PM – Well that was a short campout for Syracuse at the top of the snow hill. I don’t think they even had time to pitch a tent while they were on top. Binghamton, NY wasn’t having anything to do with Syracuse taking over the lead from them and got enough snow to take back the top spot and Binghamton is the first city in the Golden Snowball contest to hit the 1-inch mark.

Rochester remains in 2nd place and now Syracuse gets bumped down the the number 3 spot on the snow hill. Looks like there is going to be a lot of back and fourth this season unless one of the cities decides to really snow it on to take a big lead. Where is Buffalo?

Updated 2 PM 11/23 – Syracuse took over the top spot on the snow hill once again and Rochester received their first measurable snowfall of the 2015-2016 snow season. ย So far 3 of the Golden Snowball cities have snow this season and it probably won’t be long before Buffalo gets on the snowboard. ย Maybe come the next update?

Syracuse slipped past Binghamton by a couple of tenths of an inch of snow and Rochester started their season off with 0.6 inches of snow which was just enough to move Rochester into 2nd place on the snow hill. ย Yeah I know, pretty boring so far but just think, it’s only just begun ๐Ÿ™‚

It will be interesting to see if Syracuse can hold on to the lead come the next update later this afternoon. ย I’ve seen a few videos of some light snow falling in the Binghamton area today. ย I’m not sure what is going on though in the other cities. ย Stay tuned for a late day update if there are any changes in the line-up.

Snowiest Golden Snowball cities

For those of you that follow the National snow contest, the Golden Snow Globe things got going pretty good this weekend and cities are still adding to their totals. ย Chicago set a couple of date records for snow and moved into 2nd place. ย Anchorage, Alaska still holds a pretty decent lead in the National snow contest though almost having as much snow already as they had the entire 2014-2015 snow season. ย Click Here to Visit the national snow contest!

Have an awesome day everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰

Updated 11/15 – I just updated the snow stats and Binghamton received just enough snowflakes to take the lead back from Syracuse. Binghamton started off the 2015-2016 snow season, but Syracuse managed to take the top of the snow hill back from them. Binghamton wasn’t having any of that and now lead by just a tenth of an inch over second-place Syracuse.

One thing that stood out this last update was that all of the Golden Snowball cities had snow this time last season and it looks like they received it about this time in the year. Probably a good idea to break out the winter clothing and tune up the snowblowers, snowmobiles and whatever else ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have an Awesome Day Everyone!
——————————————-

All is quiet in Snowsville, New York with the weather being frightfully warmer than normal for this time in the year. Binghamton and Syracuse received a little bit of snow earlier than normal but no snow for any of the Golden Snowball cities since then.

Let’s play one of our normal guesstimate games with the normal prize being a virtual pat on the back for whoever guesses it right. Which city do you think will be the first city to receive an inch of snowfall for the 2015 – 2016 snow season? Guess the city and also give a date that you think that the city will hit the 1-inch mark.

You can just comment on this post with your guesses and as always we will use the National Weather Service’s statistics. All in fun.

I am going to go with Buffalo passing an inch on 11/16

Have a Great Day All ๐Ÿ˜‰

Binghamton, New York kicked off the new 2015 – 2016 snow season by picking up 0.2 inches of snow yesterday. Congrats Binghamton and let the 2015 – 2016 Golden Snowball snow games begin. I’m sure everyone is sooo happy to get that pesky summer out of the way and start up the Winter season huh ๐Ÿ™‚ I didn’t think so ๐Ÿ™ The good news is that, ummm, OK, there really isn’t too much good news because we all have a long snowy season ahead of us.

Buffalo is way overdue to win the Golden Snowball contest and I have a feeling this may be Buffalo’s season to do it. Buffalo has come really close the last couple of seasons and of course who can forget last season when they received that epic snowfall that unfortunately hit all around the area but missed the airport. Since the Ressurection of the Golden Snowball contest Rochester has been the only city to dethrone Syracuse from the top of the snow hill and it will be interesting to see if The Rock has it in them this season.

Binghamton has actually won the contest way back in the past when the original Golden Snowball contest was running, but that was a long time ago. I think it will take some pretty weird weather for them to win it again. Then there is Albany. Enough said about Albany ๐Ÿ˜‰

It should be a fun 2015 – 2016 snow season so break out the gloves, boots and whatever else you need to make it through the winter. I’ll take a look later at the snow stats when they get updated again to see if any of the other cities have any measurable snowfall to report so stay tuned. Last I looked there was still a lot of lake effect snow falling around some of the Golden Snowball cities.

The National Snow Contest, the Golden Snow Globe started up several days back with Anchorage, Alaska picking up 2.8 inches of snow for the new season. Click Here for the snowiest big cities in the country at the National snow contest.

Have an Awesome Sunday Everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰

First off, a Big Thanks goes out to Evelyn M. for your recent donation to the snow site. Thank You Evelyn for taking the time, I really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

Binghamton is the only city so far reporting snow from what could be our last blast of cold air. Binghamton picked up 0.3 inches of snow yesterday to bring their snow totals to 93.2 but unless some super freaky weather hits I’m pretty sure Binghamton is out of the running along with Rochester and Albany.

Syracuse’s snow lead over Buffalo is still just a little over 6 inches is looking good with the end of the contest fast approaching, but we still have some cold air around so no way have they clinched the snow title yet. All it will take is one decent band to set up over Buffalo and it will be interesting.

Looking at the snow stats I noticed that Syracuse is the only city in the Golden Snowball contest that is behind their normal snowfall to date. All of the other cities have already hit their normal snowfall for the season. Albany is winning that battle with 16.8 more snow than a typical snow season for them.

I’m guessing that after the taste of warm weather pretty much everyone is ready to get the snow contest over with and move on to Summer. It won’t be long and keep in mind that the normal call it a wrap date is May first so we are only about a week away. Stay Tuned ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have an Awesome Day Everyone!

First off as always I want to give a shout out and a Big Thanks to David G. for your generous donation to the snow site. They really do help out a lot and I really do appreciate you taking the time. Thank You David ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, It’s starting to look like some of the snow totals forecasted for today and tonight are dropping a little bit from a couple of days ago. Hey, Happy March everyone! Unfortunately looking at this weeks forecasts for all of the cities it’s looking like March will be starting off a little snowy. I guess the good news is some of the Highs for this week are in the 20’s and maybe 30’s. Pretty sad when highs of 20’s and 30’s is good news huh ๐Ÿ™‚

I think it will be interesting to see if Buffalo can take the lead from Syracuse and just as interesting to see if Rochester can play catch up this week with both cities. It’s looking like Binghamton may win this next snowball fight which is today and tonight. According to the forecasts they are expected to receive a little more snow than the rest of the cities in the Golden Snowball contest.

The images below show snow and at least a wintry mix for all of the cities looking ahead all the way to Thursday. Right now only 3.7 inches of snow separate Buffalo and Syracuse. I think for the time being I am going to say Syracuse will be on top of the snow hill come the end of the week. The again keep in mind that I am clueless so stay tuned and good luck to all ๐Ÿ˜‰ Below is what The National Weather Service has forecast for part of this week and keep in mind that most likely it will be changing. This is as of today, Sunday March 1st…

Have an Awesome Day Everyone and take it slow on the roads….

Buffalo is still hanging tough at the top and even with the lake frozen isn’t really showing any sign of slowing down yet. Syracuse has once again closed the gap on the lead that Buffalo has but not by a lot. It’s been Buffalo pretty much the entire season so far sitting at the top of the snow hill ๐Ÿ™‚

Albany WAS keeping up with the Big 3 Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester but is slowly fading away into the Horizon. I’m a little surprised because they were doing pretty good with the storms that came through but haven’t been able to cash in enough on the last couple of storms. I can’t say that they are out for the season but I think they will be on the disabled list pretty soon ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sorry Albany but being behind almost 30 inches right now (27.5) it’s not looking too good. Of course every time I say something like that Mother Nature slaps me and proves me wrong ๐Ÿ™

Syracuse has managed to melt away about 7 inches from the lead that Buffalo did have a little while back and I think the 10 inch lead that Buffalo has right now is going to keep melting away. I think by the end of this weekend only a couple of inches will separate Buffalo and Syracuse with maybe, just maybe me saying Buffalo is now chasing Syracuse. Then again I am from Da’Cuse so that could be just wishful thinking ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rochester isn’t through yet and I don’t think Binghamton is either. It seemed like earlier in the season Binghamton was able to catch some of the snow that moved to the south but recently they have been missing all of the snow that’s been around. Rochester was able to cash in on the last storm and won that snowball fight. There is still a lot of time left in the season for Rochester to melt away some of the lead that Buffalo and Syracuse have over the Roc but in a week or two they may want to start shipping in the snow making machines as backup.. Stay Tuned!

Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse are all in the Top 10 right now in the National Snow Contest. Buffalo is representing New York the best right now sitting in the #3 slot on the snow Mountains.
