I just want to say Thanks Joe. A for your donation to the site and for taking the time. I appreciate it and it helps out a lot πŸ™‚

OK, I normally try to keep the snow site fun after all that’s what it’s all about. Having fun and maybe helping the winter season pass by a little faster. That said what’s going on in the surrounding Buffalo area is I think one of the most serious situations I have seen. With that I am just going to post a couple of comments that were were posted and you won’t hear me say this too often but I do hope the snow stops soon. Here is what Angelo posted in a comment to the site and my reply.

Angelo – “Just wanted to update you guys, official snow fall in my town of Lancaster over last 2 days is 73 inches, south buffalo has about 65 on the ground. Airport is on the border of the heavy snow line but should receive another foot tonight and tomorrow. Lancaster is looking at another 20 plus inches in the same time frame. Maybe we can reach that magic number of 100 inches! In all seriousness this storm has claimed 7 lives so far and has collapsed a number of roofs and with the additional snow and 50 degree temps we will be seeing Sunday through Tuesday I’m sure we will be seeing even more collapses and major flooding. Wish us luck!”

Me – “Hey Angelo, Wow is still the only word that comes to mind. It’s cool seeing the numbers, pictures and videos but then again I wish I wasn’t seeing them because I know how serious the situation is there and all around there. Definitely Good Luck to all of you effected and I hope there are no more deaths from this unbelievable snowfall. My thought s and Yes prayers are with all of you. I’m not looking forward to what we will most likely be reading once the temps start going up. Stay Safe,”

I wish Nothing but the best to our friends in the Buffalo area πŸ˜‰
Patrick

A Big Thank You Bonnie L. for your recent donation to the snow site. I truly appreciate you taking the time to do so and they always help out. Thanks Bonnie πŸ™‚

Updated 11/19 6 PM – Ok, Buffalo has double what they had the last update and I still think when all is said and done they will have a pretty decent lead on the rest of us. Right now they are at 8.5 inches on the season adding another 4.5 inches of snow since the last update. I also still think they are going to make a run for the top slot in the National snow contest before all is said and done. Go Buffalo and Stay Tuned πŸ˜‰

It’s not too often I feel for our arch rival, Buffalo but I do today for a couple of reasons. First off when I checked the snow stats from NOAA and only saw 2.7 inches of new snow being at reported at the airport I was shocked. Especially after looking at probably over 100 pictures today of the unbelievable amounts of snow that has been falling all around the Buffalo area. Don’t get me wrong either.

I understand how lake effect snow is and how it can set up and dump several feet of snow like it’s doing now in the towns around Buffalo and probably even in Buffalo but when I was looking at the radar the last day or so it looked like it was set up where the airport was going to cash in too. Maybe they do measure after the planes take off instead of before like we do here in Syracuse πŸ˜‰

OK, all joking aside I am seeing reports of some epic snowfall in several cities with totals of 4 feet or more and counting. All I can say to all of you folks being affected by that much snow is Please stay safe. As much fun as the snow contest is, that is some serious snow and dangerous to say the least. Good Luck all and Congrats Buffalo on taking the lead…

First a Big Thanks to Jonathon T for your donation to the website. The donations help me out a lot at offsetting some of the costs and also lets me know the hours put into the contests are appreciated. Thanks Jonathon πŸ™‚

OK, I had to hurry up and get that out, that Buffalo is in last place in the Golden Snowball contest. Chances are I won’t be saying that for awhile with all of the lake effect snow that they are expecting the next couple of days. So, Yup, Buffalo is in dead last place and even behind Albany, snicker πŸ˜‰

From reading around the weather sites it’s looking like it is still a go for Buffalo to receive close to a couple of feet and maybe even more. Hopefully for you snow lovers the snow bands will set up just right and hang over the airport. Don’t underestimate this either because with the wind and that amount of snow there is no doubt it will be dangerous out there so Drive careful and stay safe.

buffalo and erie, pa lake effect storm

Predictions For Snow

I just added 0.6 of an inch to Buffalo’s totals so the chances are that it is snowing right now there. It will also be interesting to see if Buffalo can over take Erie, Pa in the National Snow Contest Here. Right now Buffalo isn’t even in the top 25 snowiest cities but if this all pans out they should most likely jump to at least second place in the contest. Depending on how Erie makes out with the lake effect snow Buffalo may even have a shot at taking the top spot on the snow mountain in the Golden Snow Globe contest. Stay Tuned!

Syracuse has pushed Binghamton a spot down the snow hill to move into the #1 spot for the first time this season. All of the Golden Snowball cities now have measurable snow this season and obviously we have only just begun πŸ˜‰

It’s close and only 0.3 of an inch separate Syracuse and Binghamton as of the last update from NOAA. I’m out of town right now so unfortunately I missed the first snowfall of the season although I did see a few snowflakes falling here in Clayton, NC this morning. I think I counted about 11 of them πŸ˜‰

I think this is going to be another fun season and as always any of the cities can win the Golden Snowball trophy which sits just outside of the Mayors office door on a shelf here in Syracuse. OK, I don’t think Albany can win but it’s up for grabs for the other four cities.

Have an Awesome Weekend All πŸ™‚

Updated 11/14 10 am – Binghamton is reporting another 1.1 inches of new snowfall on the season bringing their new snow totals to 1.3 to date and sledding them back into first place.

For some reason The National Weather service is only showing 0.2 of an inch of snow for Buffalo now instead of the 0.3 inches. We will have to see if that was a correction or a mistake. If that’s the case then Binghamton has been at the top of the snow hill the whole season so far πŸ™‚

Rochester and Syracuse have finally gotten on the snow board. Both cities are reporting 0.2 inches of snow for the new 2014-2015 snow season. Looks like the snow race is on. Of course and then there is Albany, our Great states capital. Enough said about Albany πŸ˜‰ Have an Awesome Day Everyone!
————————————————–

Buffalo is the second city so far this season to show some measurable snowfall in the Golden Snowball contest. Only 0.3 of an inch but enough to slip past Binghamton to take the top spot on the snow hill πŸ˜‰ Snow is suppose to be in the air for the next day or two so I’ll keep this post updated as to how the GSB cities are doing.

Way to go Buffalo and could this be your season πŸ˜‰ Stay Tuned!

Binghamton is the first city to strike first this snow season reporting 0.2 of an inch as of Friday. Β That only means one thing, that the Golden Snowball contest for the 2014-2015 snow season has begun. Β Way to go Binghamton πŸ™‚

None of the other cities are showing any measurable snow yet for this season. Β All of the Golden Snowball cities are reporting at least a trace of snow now though after the cold air we had on Friday. Β Is everyone ready to get this snow season going? Β Enough for now and let’s see which city is the next to report some snowfall…

Have a great weekend everyone πŸ˜‰
