A Big Thank You Bonnie L. for your recent donation to the snow site. I truly appreciate you taking the time to do so and they always help out. Thanks Bonnie ๐Ÿ™‚

Updated 11/19 6 PM – Ok, Buffalo has double what they had the last update and I still think when all is said and done they will have a pretty decent lead on the rest of us. Right now they are at 8.5 inches on the season adding another 4.5 inches of snow since the last update. I also still think they are going to make a run for the top slot in the National snow contest before all is said and done. Go Buffalo and Stay Tuned ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s not too often I feel for our arch rival, Buffalo but I do today for a couple of reasons. First off when I checked the snow stats from NOAA and only saw 2.7 inches of new snow being at reported at the airport I was shocked. Especially after looking at probably over 100 pictures today of the unbelievable amounts of snow that has been falling all around the Buffalo area. Don’t get me wrong either.

I understand how lake effect snow is and how it can set up and dump several feet of snow like it’s doing now in the towns around Buffalo and probably even in Buffalo but when I was looking at the radar the last day or so it looked like it was set up where the airport was going to cash in too. Maybe they do measure after the planes take off instead of before like we do here in Syracuse ๐Ÿ˜‰

OK, all joking aside I am seeing reports of some epic snowfall in several cities with totals of 4 feet or more and counting. All I can say to all of you folks being affected by that much snow is Please stay safe. As much fun as the snow contest is, that is some serious snow and dangerous to say the least. Good Luck all and Congrats Buffalo on taking the lead…

Right now it’s a 3 way tie in the Golden Snowball contest which I can’t remember if that has ever happened before. There have been several times when 2 cities were tied for the lead but I don’t remember 3 cities being tied for the snow lead. Of course this is only because the overnight snow hasn’t been added yet. I suppose it’s all irreverent though because come the next update a little later it will be Buffalo ahead with a big lead ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m hearing several reports of heavy snow along with lightning and thunder in the heavy snow bands around the Buffalo area. Also be advised that as I am typing this according to the National Weather Service and several other news stations The NY State Thruway is closed IN BOTH DIRECTIONS between Exit 46, Rochester, and Exit 59, Dunkirk. Just a heads up ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Tug Hill area and Watertown are also getting pounded so get those snowmobile’s tuned up if you haven’t already the trails will probably be ready soon ๐Ÿ™‚

I will post updates in this post as the day(s) go on as to what’s going on. The General posted a comment that Buffalo has a shot at breaking their old record of total snowfall in a 24 hour period. A yardstick of snow will break that record. I’ll do another update here when the new snow stats come out which will include the overnight and most of today’s snowfall. Stay Safe all and take it slow if you have to get out in it.

Syracuse has pushed Binghamton a spot down the snow hill to move into the #1 spot for the first time this season. All of the Golden Snowball cities now have measurable snow this season and obviously we have only just begun ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s close and only 0.3 of an inch separate Syracuse and Binghamton as of the last update from NOAA. I’m out of town right now so unfortunately I missed the first snowfall of the season although I did see a few snowflakes falling here in Clayton, NC this morning. I think I counted about 11 of them ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think this is going to be another fun season and as always any of the cities can win the Golden Snowball trophy which sits just outside of the Mayors office door on a shelf here in Syracuse. OK, I don’t think Albany can win but it’s up for grabs for the other four cities.

Have an Awesome Weekend All ๐Ÿ™‚

Updated 11/14 10 am – Binghamton is reporting another 1.1 inches of new snowfall on the season bringing their new snow totals to 1.3 to date and sledding them back into first place.

For some reason The National Weather service is only showing 0.2 of an inch of snow for Buffalo now instead of the 0.3 inches. We will have to see if that was a correction or a mistake. If that’s the case then Binghamton has been at the top of the snow hill the whole season so far ๐Ÿ™‚

Rochester and Syracuse have finally gotten on the snow board. Both cities are reporting 0.2 inches of snow for the new 2014-2015 snow season. Looks like the snow race is on. Of course and then there is Albany, our Great states capital. Enough said about Albany ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have an Awesome Day Everyone!
————————————————–

Buffalo is the second city so far this season to show some measurable snowfall in the Golden Snowball contest. Only 0.3 of an inch but enough to slip past Binghamton to take the top spot on the snow hill ๐Ÿ˜‰ Snow is suppose to be in the air for the next day or two so I’ll keep this post updated as to how the GSB cities are doing.

Way to go Buffalo and could this be your season ๐Ÿ˜‰ Stay Tuned!

It’s starting to look like it’s just a matter of time if not hours before some of us if not most will have our first measurable snowfall of the season. ย Binghamton has been holding onto that hefty lead of 0.2 inches of snowfall for awhile now while the rest of us are only showing a trace of snowfall.

Snow is in the forecast for all of the cities the next few days so which city do you think be the next to lead or will Bingo hang on to the top spot on the snow hill?

I was just reading around and came across a fun quiz on Syracuse.com that Glenn Coin put out. ย Of course being the Oracle I scored 100 (NOT ๐Ÿ™ ). ย A couple of the questions were a bit tricky but give it a shot if you think you know about Syracuse weather. ย Oh and let me know how you did. ย You can take the Syracuse Winter Quiz Here at Syracuse.com .

As for the National Golden Snow Globe contest things are heating up. OK, that doesn’t make sense and let’s say things are freezing up with all of the cold air moving across the country. We went from 9 cities with measurable snowfall to I think around 18 as of yesterdays update. You can check that out Here at the National Golden Snow Globe Contest.

Binghamton is the first city to strike first this snow season reporting 0.2 of an inch as of Friday. ย That only means one thing, that the Golden Snowball contest for the 2014-2015 snow season has begun. ย Way to go Binghamton ๐Ÿ™‚

None of the other cities are showing any measurable snow yet for this season. ย All of the Golden Snowball cities are reporting at least a trace of snow now though after the cold air we had on Friday. ย Is everyone ready to get this snow season going? ย Enough for now and let’s see which city is the next to report some snowfall…

Have a great weekend everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰
