golden snowball contest

Rochester is the first city to pick up over an inch of snowfall this season picking up 1.2 inches of snow yesterday.  They have doubled the amount of snowfall over the new 2nd place spot which is held by Buffalo now.  Really, Buffalo is near the top go figure 😉

It seems like forever ago that Buffalo was near the top of our snow contest with the last couple of years being pretty wimpy winters for them.  They had their first snowfall of the 2013 – 2014 snow season yesterday picking up 0.7 of an inch.  Binghamton also had their first snowfall showing 0.2 inches of snow for yesterday which was just enough to put them in a tie with Syracuse, last seasons champ.  Nothing to show for Albany!

This was the first lead change of the new snow season and no doubt it’s game on right now.  I’m thinking there will probably be a lot of lead changes this season and I also have a feeling a few of our cities are going to get hammered this season.  Hammered by snow that is 😉  More updates to come soon.

We also had another lead change in the National snow contest which I believe is the third lead change for the snowiest big city.  You can check out those snow stats at The Golden Snow Globe Site.

Have a Super Awesome Day All and as always, “See Snow, Drive Slow”.

Let the games begin!  Syracuse has started the new season with a wimpy 0.2  of an inch of snow but enough to get things started 😉   This is the first measurable snowfall of the season.  Well I was starting to sweat out my last post about the snow season and the Golden Snowball contest starting up.  Thank God NOAA came through with some snow stats, measurable snow stats to start the season up.

Albany is showing MM right now which means they haven’t reported yet or don’t know what to report yet.  I was surprised to see just a trace of snow with the other GSB cities expecting at least Binghamton to report some measurable snowfall.

Then I went into panic mode when Brian Cubbison from the Post Standard posted something about the contest based on my earlier post for the fact when I looked at the stats earlier no snow was being reported yet.  OK, Enough rambling and it is official now 🙂  Let the snow games begin 😉

Have a Super Day All 🙂

I finally woke up this morning to see some of that white fluffy gold in the sky falling and even sticking to the ground a bit. I figured a couple tenths of an inch where I live which is just outside of the city of Syracuse and not too far from the airport where they measure the snowfall for Da’Cuse. It also looked like it was snowing down toward Binghamton’s way so there is a good chance that we may have Liftoff for the new 2013 – 2014 snow season. The question now is which city/cities started it up this season?

How about Rochester or Buffalo? Any snow to report there today? From what I have been reading it’s suppose to be a cold winter this year which could mean some decent Lake Effect Snow for some of us. I’ll post an update later this afternoon or evening when NOAA posts the new stats from earlier today. Remember, ALL of the stats are courtesy of the national weather service and to this day it still amazes me how much info they have on their website.

On one other note there is a rumor going around about a big storm come the end of next week. After reading around about that it seems that right now it’s WAYYYY to far for the pros to predict but if everything falls in place perfectly it is a possibility that it just may pan out. Chances are they won’t be able to pin it down until some time next week so I wouldn’t worry about it just yet or is that I wouldn’t get excited about the Nor’easter just yet 😉

Have an Awesome Day All 😉

Nothing measurable to report yet for the Golden Snowball cities but that could change anytime now. Just a trace of snow for Syracuse and Binghamton being reported so far. I did hear about some white stuff falling around Binghamton so we will see if that gets reported in the update later today/this evening.

My daughter is in town from the Carolina’s and I just took my Grandson for a nice brisk walk. Gotta show him where his roots are from. I think I was colder than he was and he handled it like a trooper from the North 😉

The national snow contest has started and it’s all Colorado. I just did an update on th National Snowiest City site yesterday. You can check that out at Goldensnowglobe . com.

Have a Great Day All 😉

First Off – Thank You Susan R. for your donation to the website.  It’s appreciated and helps a lot 🙂

Syracuse added quite a few snowflakes to their lead over 2nd place Rochester and also set a date record for Tuesday, 4/2/13.  Syracuse picked up 10.5 inches of snow yesterday breaking the old date record of 1.4 inches back in 1991.  Syracuse also has a shot at breaking their all time snow total record for the month of April which is 16.4 inches back in 1983 if it continues for a day or two.  I think if they don’t break it by tonight I’m just about ready to say no problem, let’s move onto Spring.

Sean Kirst, journalist for the Post Standard and Syracuse.com put out a good article about this last late season snowfall in Syracuse and also how it helped them overtake Worcester, MA and Erie, PA in the national snow contest.  Check out Sean’s article at here at Syracuse.com.

For some reason I’m starting be one of the most hated person on my facebook page.  I’m talking my page that is all family and friends.  Every time it snow I get posts like cut the crap Pat, enough already Pat, You better not do another snow dance, and a bunch of other posts on my facebook page and this is family also.  It’s like my snow dances really have an effect on the weather 😉  OK, they really do and I did do one that ticked a bunch of people off but now that Syracuse has the lead in both the Golden Snowball Contest and the National Golden Snow Globe Contest I can finally do a Spring dance.  Who knows, maybe I’ll do a spring ballet dance just to prove that I really am a team player.  Nah, that isn’t happening 😉

My neighbor across the street even called and said enough.  She mentioned that I was or the snow was going to kill all of her flowers that just started to spring up.  I told her just let us get ahead of Worcester, Mass and that will be the end of me wishing for more snow.  Plus I told her that her flowers will be fine, that they are New Yorkers and they can handle it.  We all made it through another winter/spring in New York and I suppose even I have to say that it’s time to move on to our Spring season.  What’s left of it anyways 😉

Have a SUPER SNOWLESS Week Everyone 🙂

First Off Thank You Philip G. for your donation.  All of the donations really do help out a lot.

Sorry about the lack of updates the last week but my new love of my life was in town visiting from South/North Carolina 🙂 At the beginning of the snow season I became a Grandpa and when the little one comes to town everything else moves to the back. Unfortunately they went back after a fun weeks visit including the parade last weekend. One good thing is that out of the 3 visits my little buddy made here to Syracuse he got to see snow every time and 2 of the times we had storms. He may have been born in South Carolina but he’ll always have Syracuse in him 😉

OK, on to snow but the problem is there really hasn’t been a whole lot of snow falling in the Golden Snowball cities this past week.  Looking at the snow stats I noticed that Syracuse and Albany at this time last season had all the snow they would get.  In other words last season neither Syracuse or Albany received anymore snow from here on other than maybe a trace.  The other 3 cities are pretty close to their totals last season.

So does that mean it’s done snowing in the GSB cities.  Ha, not a chance in my opinion but no doubt the time is running out fast so last years snow champion Rochester better do a snow dance fast to hang on to the bragging rights 😉  Has everyone had enough already or do you want it to keep coming?

Have an Awesome Weekend Everyone!
