A big Thanks to Joey G. for your donation to the website.  Thanks Joey, I appreciate it 😉

It’s starting to look like winter may finally arrive after the nice break we had the past month or so.  The weather pros are saying that the coldest air of the season is on it’s way which means it’s time to Crank Up The Lake Effect Machines 🙂

As boring as the last month has been I am really liking the fact that all 5 of the cities are still in contention for the Golden Snowball Award so far this season.  Even Rochester, Ha 😛  OK, normally I would say even Albany but it seems like The Roc has been in last place just as long as Albany has been for the 2014 – 2015 snow season.

Rochester was just tied for last place again but managed to show a tenth of an inch from the overnight to pull ahead of Albany.  Of course I am just picking on Rochester and I am sure you will be at the top of the snow hill before the season is over.  As long as it’s not at the very end of the season 😉

Buffalo has held the lead for a good part of the season and it will be interesting to see how that all pans out this week.  I believe that all of the cities are expecting the cold air to stick around for awhile so the GSB trophy is up for grabs.  Let’s hope Mother Nature can set up some decent snow bands over the LES cities and get this contest sledding again.

Sorry about the lack of posts the last month or so but I have been trying to kick some kind of sickness that has lasted almost 2 months now 🙁  Between that and working on my Christmas sites it took away from the time I had to spend on here.  Christmas is over, I’m still broke like some of ya’s but at least I will have more time for the snow sites now.  I have been able to get a lot of updates in though this season and that should continue.  Here is hoping for a lot of snow for you skiers, sledders and some cold air for those of you who are waiting for the lakes to freeze to start ice fishing 😉

As far as the National Big City Snow Contest goes that is a really close contest too.  All 3 of our cities with a population of 100,000 or more are in the top 10 and in striking distance of taking the top spot on the snow mountain away from Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Go Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester!

It was a choice between Dean Martin’s version of let it snow which I like or Jessica Simpson’s version.  They guys won out this time 😉

Have an Awesome Day All!

Updated 12/10 – 11:30 PM – Syracuse is reporting 11.5 inches so far for today as of 10 PM. I’m holding off on moving both Syracuse and Binghamton up the snow hill for the fact that the other 3 cities haven’t reported yet as I’m typing and their stats won’t come out until tomorrow, early morning. I’m looking forward to seeing which city is in the lead come morning. I’ll do an update when I wake up. Ummm, Just a heads up that I tend to sleep in every now and then 😉 Drive careful everyone…

Updated 12/10 6 PM – Syracuse is winning this round of snowfall so far and has slid into the second place slot on the hill as of the last update. Below are the snow stats that are being reported for yesterday and today. Keep in mind that Albany isn’t reporting this update.

Syracuse – 11.6
Binghamton – 7.1
Rochester – 3.6
Albany – 3.6 Yesterday, Not Reporting for Today
Buffalo – Trace

Updated – 12/10 10:30 AM – Albany slips past Binghamton and moves into second place on the snow hill. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see which city is in the lead by the time this storm is over 🙂 .

Well the snow is finally falling in CNY and it looks like Rochester may be getting in on the fun too. The roads are slick so take it slow. Here is a good up date of some official and nonofficial snow stats measure across NY in the areas that the snow has been falling. Because of the temperatures the snow got a later start than I think was expected so we’ll have to wait and see if we all can make up for it.

Snow Storm Damon Totals so far from the National Weather Service

—————————————————-

Another snow storm is heading up the coast and heading our way and this storm may help Syracuse’s and Binghamton’s snow totals out.  Snow storm Damon is expected to drop several inches and maybe up to a foot of new snow around the Syracuse and Binghamton area.  As always, these storms are hard for the pros to predict because the path of the storm can change plus it also depends on whether the temps stay above or below freezing.

Keep in mind also as always, we are clueless here so check with your favorite forecasters the next few days for your area.  Below are some links to the National Weather Service with the latest snow storm watches and warnings.  Most likely I’ll be updating this section with all of the cities new snow totals as they come in.

It will be interesting to see if the storm moves to the west enough to help Rochester and Buffalo add some snow to their totals.  I think Albany will get something and how much will depend on when it changes over from rain to snow. Right now Buffalo, Rochester and Albany are under Storm watches while Syracuse and Binghamton are under storm warnings. Watches means mean the potential is there so keep an eye on what’s going on. Warnings mean the storm is expected to pan out. Not exactly in those words but I’m sure you get my drift 😉

Nor'easter Snow Storm Damon Syracuse and Binghamton, NY

AGAIN, clueless is typing this 😉  From reading around it looks like it will start with rain in some of the cities, maybe trow in a mix of freezing rain and then switch over to snow as the temps drop.  Check below for the snow storm warnings and estimated time of the arrival of storm Damon.

Syracuse has pushed Binghamton a spot down the snow hill to move into the #1 spot for the first time this season. All of the Golden Snowball cities now have measurable snow this season and obviously we have only just begun 😉

It’s close and only 0.3 of an inch separate Syracuse and Binghamton as of the last update from NOAA. I’m out of town right now so unfortunately I missed the first snowfall of the season although I did see a few snowflakes falling here in Clayton, NC this morning. I think I counted about 11 of them 😉

I think this is going to be another fun season and as always any of the cities can win the Golden Snowball trophy which sits just outside of the Mayors office door on a shelf here in Syracuse. OK, I don’t think Albany can win but it’s up for grabs for the other four cities.

Have an Awesome Weekend All 🙂

It’s starting to look like it’s just a matter of time if not hours before some of us if not most will have our first measurable snowfall of the season.  Binghamton has been holding onto that hefty lead of 0.2 inches of snowfall for awhile now while the rest of us are only showing a trace of snowfall.

Snow is in the forecast for all of the cities the next few days so which city do you think be the next to lead or will Bingo hang on to the top spot on the snow hill?

I was just reading around and came across a fun quiz on Syracuse.com that Glenn Coin put out.  Of course being the Oracle I scored 100 (NOT 🙁 ).  A couple of the questions were a bit tricky but give it a shot if you think you know about Syracuse weather.  Oh and let me know how you did.  You can take the Syracuse Winter Quiz Here at Syracuse.com .

As for the National Golden Snow Globe contest things are heating up. OK, that doesn’t make sense and let’s say things are freezing up with all of the cold air moving across the country. We went from 9 cities with measurable snowfall to I think around 18 as of yesterdays update. You can check that out Here at the National Golden Snow Globe Contest.

Rochester is the third city that got to see some snowflakes falling.  So far so good if you’re not a snow lover.  None of the cities have any measurable snow as of this last weekend.  This snow season is starting off pretty much the same as last season did.

Buffalo and Binghamton should have over an inch by now on average.  In the National Snow Contest Anchorage has the top spot on the snow mountain for now but that can and probably will change sometime soon.  As of this weekend there were 9 cities with measurable snowfall in the big city contest.  Remember that contest is for cities that have a population of 100,000 or more.  You can check that out at www.goldensnowglobe.com .

Have an Awesome Week All 🙂

Buffalo is now on the board with a trace of snow from a couple of weeks ago. Keep in mind though that a trace of snow doesn’t count as measurable snow. Once one of the cities get at least a tenth of an inch of snow the 2014 – 2015 Golden Snowball Contest will begin. Does anyone have any guesses as to which city you think will start of the snow contest this season?

If my memory serves me right and believe me it never does, I think every city in the contest may have started the contest off in past seasons. I’ll have to look back on that to see if Albany has ever started a the Golden Snowball contest off. It’s hard to even think of snow yet when the temperatures in most of New York have been unseasonably warmer than normal the last few days. Unfortunately that will be changing in the next few days and most of us will be dropping down to below normal temperatures.

Buffalo and Binghamton are both below their average snowfall for the season already. Just find that sort of funny for some reason. Buffalo on average, if there is a such thing as average or normal for NY snow should have 0.3 inches of snow and Binghamton should have 0.1 inches. They are slacking this season 😉 It will be interesting after last season if Buffalo can play hardball again and pile on some decent snow totals this season too.

I did an update on the National Snow Contest site and none of the snowiest big cities in the country have started the Golden Snow Globe contest off yet either. Quite a few of the cities are showing a trace of snow so far but as of a couple of days ago none are reporting any measurable snowfall yet. I think within the next several days that contest will be starting up and maybe this one too. You can check those out here at The National Snow Contest.

Have an Awesome Day Eveyone 🙂
