1/26/14 Update – Just a quick post that even a frozen Lake Erie isn’t slowing Buffalo down.  Buffalo continues to add to their snow totals and are now just over a foot of snow ahead of the next snowiest city, Syracuse.  WTG Buffalo 😉

——————————————————————–

Buffalo is still hanging tough on top of the Golden Snowball snow hill but things could start to change. Looking at some graphs and pictures it looks like Lake Erie has frozen over. In other words it looks like Buffalo’s lake effect machine has just about run out of gas. I’m still adding to their snow totals though so they are still picking up some snow and just enough to keep ahead of the rest of the GSB cities.

All of the Great Lakes seem to have more ice than normal but keep in mind I’m normally clueless. Lake Ontario looks to be wide open and should stay that way other than the east side of the lake. Lake effect snow is in the forecast tonight for some of the cities and lets hope it pans out this time. It’s been too quiet lately and a little too cold for my liking. I think I would rather have the mid 20’s with snow than this Artic air and no snow. Just my opinion of course 😉

Where has Rochester been this season? Right now they are sitting just one spot ahead of Albany. Just one storm away from going to the bottom of the snow hill. Come on Rochester, let’s pick it up a bit and start piling on some snow. I think it’s time for some of you folks in Rochester to do a snow dance. This guy here is getting ready to do one for the Syracuse area and it will be in the next day or two.

In the National snow contest at www.goldensnowglobe.com Erie, PA is holding on to a pretty good lead right now and right behind them is Buffalo, NY. Erie’s days on the top of the snow mountain could be numbered also seeing how Lake Erie is also their main source of lake effect snow. I think the next week or so is going to get interesting, or at least I am hoping it does.

Have a Great Day All and LET’S GO SYRACUSE ORANGE!!!

It’s finally snowing in some of the Golden Snowball cities and all we can do is shovel, wait and see if any of the cities can cut down on Buffalo’s snow lead. Is it snowing in Buffalo?

Is it snowing right now in your neck of the woods? I took a quick look outside a little while ago and I’m guessing that around 4 inches fell so far where I am living which is just outside of the city. I’m curious if the other cities are getting snow also and if so about how much? Looking at the radar my guess is yes.

The snow totals which come from NOAA are up to date as of what fell yesterday but aren’t reflecting the overnight snow and what has fallen so far today. I will do my best to get another update in later when the early evening snow stats come out from NOAA. Of course most of them will be coming out during the SU – Pitt game and you can pretty much bet I won’t be posting them then. This game should be a good one and I think this is the most worried I have been going into a game all season. Let’s hope the SU fans at the Dome make the difference in this game…

Have a Great Day All! GO SYRACUSE, KEEP IT GOING 😉

Buffalo has once again moved into the second place slot on the Golden Snowball snow hill.  I’m really liking that Buffalo has decided to join in on the snowball fight this season with the rest of the GSB cities.  Syracuse still holds onto the top spot on the snow hill but they (I know, not a person – Sorry Teacher David, I am reading your emails though and learning 😉 ) better not get too comfortable up there because I don’t think it will last too much longer.

Buffalo is also closing in on their snow totals for all of last season (2012-2013) which was only 58.8 inches of snow.  Buffalo only needs a little more than 10 inches to surpass last seasons totals.  Go Buffalo!!!

All of the Golden Snowball cities are ahead of last seasons snow totals for this time in the season and all of the cities are also ahead of their average snowfall for this time in the season.  Syracuse is barely ahead though while the rest of the cities are crushing their normal.  Albany has even showed up for the snowball fight this season and is just a coastal storm or two away from taking the top spot.

I’m also loving how close the contest still is now that we are into January.  Less than 6 inches of snow separates four of the cities which are Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester and Binghamton.  Keep an eye on Binghamton because they seem to be picking up snow just about every time any of the other cities get snow.  Stay Tuned and Stay Warm.

Have a Great Day Everyone 🙂

First off a big Thanks to Brian N for your donation to the site.  It means a lot and helps out a lot also.  Thanks Brian 🙂

It was Buffalo by a flake a couple of days ago then Rochester slipped past them for the lead and as of now it’s Syracuse on top of the snow hill.  WTG Syracuse 🙂

What is really standing out right now other than all of the lead changes and how close the snow contest is so far is Albany.  Look at Albany’s totals so far for the season, about double their normal snow totals for this time of year and more than 16 inches above what they had last season at this time.  No doubt it would be a shocker if Albany ever won the contest 😉

It’s been snowing off and on here in the Syracuse area so there will be more snow to add to their totals.  Is any of the other cities getting snow?

Have a Great Day All – See Snow, Drive Slow 😉

Binghamton has jumped ahead of Buffalo this last update but only by a few flakes. Most of the Golden Snowball cities are now right around their normal snowfall averages for this time in the season and are starting to get a good jump on how much snow we had this time last year.

A couple of the cities, Syracuse and Rochester are more than a foot of snow above last season at this time. If my math is right and remember it’s me and I tend to use fuzzy math although not on purpose 🙁 here are the differences from last season for the GSB cities.

Syracuse + 12.4
Rochester + 12.8
Binghamton + 5.7
Buffalo + 7.7
Albany + 1.8

It’s been so quiet this past week so that’s about all I got to post about. With this current storm that is hitting the east coast it could be interesting to see what tomorrow brings. In the mean time I did get a full update in on the National Snow Contest today at www.goldensnowglobe.com .

Have a Great Week All 🙂

Syracuse has taken the top spot for the first time this season.  The lead changes continue but the top spot is up for grabs with Syracuse only holding a 0.4 inch lead over our good friends to the west, Rochester.

I just did an interview with Neeti from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.  We were both thinking that Rochester was still in the lead in the National Snow contest but unfortunately that changed with yesterdays snowfall in CNY so I don’t know if there will be an article out or not.  My guess is that Rochester will be back on the top sometime soon.  It was fun talking to you Neeti 🙂

Syracuse has also moved up in the National Snow Contest and Rochester is pulling their own snow in that contest also.  Buffalo has moved into the top 10 now too in that contest at www.goldensnowglobe.com

All of our cities are starting to blow away the snow totals from last season at this time into the contest and Buffalo has even showed up so far to play in our snow games 🙂  Remember, Buffalo has been having a few wimpy seasons the last few years.  Hopefully they are out of their snow drought now.

No doubt the top spot is in striking distance for at least 4 of our cities with just one little blast of some lake effect snow.  Lets hope it stays this close throughout the season 🙂

Have an Awesome Weekend Everyone 😉
