First off a Big Thanks to Melissa W. for your donation to the website.  Thanks Melissa, I really do appreciate it 🙂

OK, nothing like a nice spring shower, of snow that is.  OK, maybe more like some Spring lake effect snow to put Syracuse over the 100 inch mark.  All Syracuse needs now and most likely that fell during the overnight is another inch give or take to double last seasons wimpy snowfall totals.  It’s hard to believe that they still may hit their seasonal average of 123 inches.

I got woken up this morning from Steve in Rochester who was curious as to what Rochester’s snow totals were as of today.  Thanks for the wake up call Steve 🙁  I’m joking, it was time to get up and get to work anyways.  I guess he has a dinner bet going with a friend based on what the snow totals for Rochester end up being today.  Unless The Rock got 4.5 inches overnight it looks like his wallet will be a little lighter come the end of the night 😉  Good Luck!

I think I finally figured a way to make a few bucks off our snow site.  Come the end of the season, whenever that may be I offer a choice.  If you want it to keep snowing then donate 5 bucks to the site and I’ll do another snow dance.  If you’re sick of the snow by now donate 10.00 and I won’t do another snow dance 🙂  You all know how effective my dances are 😉  Actually this is a little to close to almost blackmailing ya’s so maybe I better scratch that plan.

I haven’t posted much this season about Syracuse but trust me I’m still a die hard football and basketball fan of Da’Cuse.  They play tonight against Cal and need to win to move on to the next round so Good Luck Orange!!!  How are all of your brackets doing.  So far one out of my two are in the trash already and the second one is barely hanging in there 🙁

Have a GREAT Weekend Everyone!!!

Syracuse managed to pile up enough snow yesterday to bring their totals to date over what they had their entire season last year.  They also set a record for the the date, Feb. 1st picking up 10.1 inches of snow.  The old record was 7.6 inches set in 1974…

Even though this season seems pretty easy for some of us so far, all of the Golden Snowball cities are over last years lame snow totals to date.

Syracuse slid past last seasons total snowfall which was 50.6 inches when the contest was called the end of April.  So far this season as of the end of the first day of February Syracuse has piled up 56.9 inches of snow with a lot of the snow season still left to go.  They are still behind their average to date which is 77.6 inches of snow.

That said all of the cities are still quite a bit behind what their average snowfall should be at this time in the season.

Have a Super Bowl kind of weekend everyone 😉

Just a heads up – the golden snowball site may be go offline for a couple of days.  If it does I’ll get it up ASAP.

OK, Syracuse finally picked up a few more inches of new snowfall to add a little bit to their lead.  Most of the snow has been staying up north of Da’Cuse but has to drop south sooner or later I would hope.  I also hope that the other cities, Rochester, Buffalo and Binghamton get it going pretty soon.

Binghamton has been doing good lately as far as the snow totals go managing to keep some snowflakes between them and the bottom three cities.  It always looks like the snow is around Rochester but must just be missing them.  I think with the coldest air of the season finally here that we all will be adding to our snowfall totals this week.

A picture from Grace, a friend in the Central Square area just taken!

There have been a few good bands of snow hanging to the north of Syracuse which is a good thing for the other cities.  The last couple of days the lake effect snow bands will start to drop toward Syracuse but then suddenly stop right on the border.  These are some decent snow bands too which have dropped probably close or over a couple of feet on the cities up north like Central Square, Oswego, Fulton, the Tug Hill area and other towns.  No doubt the snowmobilers are loving it 🙂

I was just looking around at the national snow contest at www.goldensnowglobe.com which was updated yesterday.  Syracuse still is in first place in the nationals but reading around today I see that Erie, Pa got pounded pretty good and may have taken the lead.  Right now it’s close and it will depend on how Erie did overnight last night.  I’ll try and get a top 10 update in later when the new snow stats come out.  Unfortunately as it always seems the case the decent snow is to the south of Buffalo.  Maybe Buffalo will pile on some snow with this cold air in place.  Let’s hope so.

Have a Great Day Everyone 😉

Syracuse takes the lead for the first time this season in the Golden Snowball contest sneaking past Binghamton.  Buffalo gets on the snow board earlier than last season.  I just went back and looked at the snow stats from last season and was pretty surprised at what I saw.

This is the first time that Syracuse had been in the lead in the GSB contest since around February 12th of last season.  Rochester regained the lead the next day and never looked back.  WTG Rochester on shutting down Da’Cuse machine 😉

Looking back at the start of last season we are pretty much following the pattern give or take a little in all of the cities.  Albany is down over 5 inches from this time last year but the rest of us are within a couple of inches.  It’s also hard to believe that this time last season Buffalo was only showing a trace of snowfall.  I’m looking forward to seeing how this season goes and for some reason Buffalo is in the back of my mind.  Could it be their turn?  Only Mother Nature knows 😉

Have an awesome week all….

Coming to you live from New York it’s the 2012 – 2013 Golden Snowball snow contest! Hello all, we hope you had an awesome summer. We sure did with plenty of poolside cocktails and soda pops to go with plenty of hot, hot days of sunshine. Now it’s just a memory of the past as the cold weather is upon us with the possibility of another storm coming up the coast.

Normally when I here storm I’m all in but because of the devastation from Hurricane Sandy and so many folks still without power I’m hoping this one passes by those on the East coast. I know I have several family members and friends who were and still are being affected by Hurricane Sandy. Most likely you do too. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.

Once again congrats to Rochester, last seasons champion 🙂 Who would have thought that around 60 inches of snow would win the Golden Snowball contest. Not us that’s for sure but they did and you can bet all of the other cities will be out to dethrone them and knock them off from being the king of the snow hill this season.

That’s about it for now but I’m sure it’s only a matter of days, maybe even hours before one of our great cities has snow to report and gets on the snow board. Any thoughts on who this seasons snow champion will be?
