  1. Jill, a great story and great pictures of the snow storm. No reason to “Sigh” today. Buffalo added another 5.4 inches to your total 🙁 As for Albany, I talked to the originator of the GSB contest and he said that they were in it back in the old days. A good Nor’ Eastern could get them into the hunt for the trophy but, enough said 😉

General, but Buffalo is fun to rag on though so let it rip while you can 😉 You know it’s coming your way soon if or should I say when Da Cuse takes over the hill ;p

Anonymous, Buffalo is definitely known for their storms and when ever I ask anyone who they think gets the most snow out of the city’s in the Golden Snowball contest almost always the answer is Buffalo. To be honest with you I never realized how much snow Rochester got until I started keeping track of the contest a few years back. We can only hope that the lake freezes over pretty soon or all the city’s might be in trouble.

Just to let you all know that your posts were all posted together and no one was answering any one else’s post 😉

  2. Watch out for Rochester as the late season charge begins! Take a look at the year-to-date averages as compared to the season total averages. Every year Rochester falls behind early and every year they wind up spanking Buffalo. Just wait until Lake Erie freezes over in February and the Buffalo snow machine grinds to a halt. Rochester will start to run away with it again and it will be back to a two horse race with Syracuse. Way to go with the October snow storm Buffalo, but we all know you’re not the real king of NY snow.

  3. It is about time someone told the truth about Buffalo – they had one big storm in 1977, claimed the erroneous “snow capitol” of the nation, and have held on to it ever since. The truth is that Lake Erie will freeze like it always does, and Rochester and Syracuse (the real snow cities)will emerge as co-champions.

  4. I’ll only sigh now if Syracuse got some snow today… we got a couple inches this afternoon and we’re supposed to get some more overnight – I’m keeping my fingers crossed 😀

As for the seven-foot snowfall we had – it was *great*! The funniest part of the whole thing was that my sister had driven up from Ohio to spend Christmas with the family. Of course, after all the snow, there was no way that she was able to drive back home in time to go back to work when she was supposed to. She called in, telling her boss that she wasn’t going to be to work for a couple of days because she was snowed-in in Buffalo. They wouldn’t believe her – they thought that she was just trying to get an extended holiday! Of course, they *had* to believe her after they saw the news on the Weather Channel 😛

This isn’t my webpage, but it pretty much describes and show pictures of what was going on. I still remember the convoys of trucks full of snow headed to Rochester. We didn’t lose power or anything, and the family was all safe together, so to me the storm was a lot of fun. Especially shoveling the snow off the roof of my parent’s deck… I never got to do that before 🙂

BTW, how did Albany ever get to be a part of this contest?
