Just wanted to give a heads up that we updated the cities in the national snow race over at the Golden Snow Globe site. One of the leaders right now was second from last, last season. It should be another fun snow contest this winter.
Buffalo continues to add to their snow totals and it looks like they are just missing out on the really heavy stuff. Either way I’m jealous of what they are getting. Hey, were any of you stuck in that weather around the Buffalo area yesterday? Hopefully not looking at the video on CNN, the Weather Channel and other national news not to mention local.
David, thanks for the great post and update. At first they mentioned that a tractor trailer jack knifed and it took awhile while to move it while the traffic behind just sat as the snow piled up around them.
Like you mentioned that is a lot of snow for the thruway and how long it lasted also. Either way a mess and I think I have only been stuck here in Syracuse one for a few hours when snow was falling at about 3 – 5 inches an hour. Thanks again and thankfully no one was hurt.
A few of my friends were stuck in traffic for almost a day, and many more were stuck at their homes because the side streets that they live on weren't plowed… not much use in digging out of 2 ft. of snow only to know that you can't drive through the 2 ft. of snow in the roads, haha.
It was a rough day or two for most people out that way, but not something that the Buffalo region isn't entirely used to. The problem was that usually these storms hit further south where there isn't as much traffic, and a few miles away from the lake, not right over the Thruway.
