new york snowfall

LATE NIGHT – The stats are posted and are now official. Buffalo has the first lead change of the season bumping Binghamton down to second place. Go Buffalo!!!

Earlier – The General (from Buffalo) and ZR800 (Rochester) both reported that the snow was falling this morning and it’s about time that both of those cities finally get on the snow board. WTG!

Buffalo is doing it in style by most likely jumping right into the lead for the first time this season. After reading around it’s looking like they have started their snow season on December 1st with 5.8 inches of snow. That’s what it is looking like according to some unofficial stats that NOAA does have up. The official stats should be out later. Most likely Buffalo will also be in the top 10 in the new contest of snowiest cities in the US. That is at least until I find all of the snow stats for the US cities with a population of 100,000 or more.

Rochester it looks like will be on the snow board when the official stats come out later also. 1.6 inches which is enough for them to pass Syracuse I believe and take over the 3rd place spot. Both Buffalo and Rochester stats were as of 7:00 am this morning so the snow stats may go up if any other snow fell since then.

Binghamton along with DaCuse probably have nothing to show but maybe a trace to a couple of tenths of snow. The snow was all around here but I think it may have stayed a bit further to the north and west of both cities. Look for the official totals a little later.

Steven put out another forecast for a couple of areas on the new site at goldensnowglobe.com. He did a great job IMO with his first snow cast only missing by one city which was Bingo. Check it out at http://goldensnowglobe.com/category/us-snow-forecast/ It’s pretty interesting as to how he is doing it.

Have a Great Day Everyone!

First off GO CUSE!!!!! Great game against Cal and UNC guys 🙂 Also the new Golden Snow Globe contest has been updated.

OK, I was just looking at a lot of last years stats for the GSB cities and came to the conclusion that we are having a pretty similar start so far this season. Well, other than Syracuse still has a shot at that longest time without an inch of snow record.

All of the cities are within a couple of inches of last years totals to date. The only thing that may be a little different is that this is about the time that some snow started to fall last season. Right now there really isn’t much in the forecast for snow as far as I’ve seen. Maybe sometime next week toward the end of it.

November was a so-so month and December was a kick butt month. By the end of November the snowfall stats were something like;

Syracuse
16.7

Binghamton
15.6

Rochester
11.1

Buffalo
6.3

Albany
0.5

The real snow started falling right around the 10th of December and by the end of December the snow stats were something like;

Syracuse
68.4

Buffalo
45.6

Rochester
45.6

Binghamton
32.7

Albany
20.8

It will be interesting to see if we have a similar season as the last one. If we end up with close to the same totals as we all had by the end of December look out. I don’t think we will be as lucky as we were last season as far as hardly any snow toward the end of the contest.

As far as the new contest goes I’m still looking up city stats but Colorado seems to be cleaning up so far. Some of the cities have 2 – 3 foot jump on us already.

Go Northeast!!! Have a Great Weekend All!

Today was the first snowflakes that I’ve seen falling this season. Syracuse is finally posting at least a trace of snow and I’m sure once the National weather service does it’s new update there will be measurable snow for at least a couple of the golden snowball cities. The snow was actually coming down pretty good and sticking for a little while this morning. Not a trace to be seen here in DaCuse now though.

Hopefully Buffalo and Rochester will be on the snow board also when the stats come out later. Binghamton has already seen a couple of inches so far this season and even added a .2 inches more to their totals yesterday. I’ll try to do an update later when the stats come out from NOAA.

Computer problems (Bad Video Card) and another project I’m working on has been the reason for the lack of posts here. Well that plus I needed to see some of the white stuff to finally get me motivated. Of course looking at a couple of 50 – 60 degree days in the near future that motivation may die down a bit but it will return.

As for the project I’ve been working on I think most of you are going to like it. Ummm, at least 3 of the GSB cities will. I don’t think Binghamton and Albany will be as enthused which is kind of a clue as to what I’m working on. I wanted to have it up and ready by November 1st but it’s taking wayyyy longer than expected. I probably have about 30 hours into it with not a whole lot to show for those hours. Makes me think to myself, what the hell am I getting myself into. I’m psyched though and hopefully it works out and turns out to be a new, fun way to enjoy and pass the snowy months away. More to come soon!

Have a Great Day All!

Well whatever happened yesterday to keep me from posting has been fixed. The snowfall totals should be up to date. Binghamton was the champ for that last round of snow picking up a total of 6.1 the last couple of days. Here is how it ended up storm totals and then some if I did my math right.

Binghamton – 6.1
Syracuse – 5.0
Albany – 3.5
Rochester – 2.2
Buffalo – 1.1

It’s still close although Syracuse did put a little cushion between Rochester. I just took a look at the radar and it looks like there is some snow developing around Rochester so maybe they can get some of it back. Now to politics!

Is it me or is anyone else electioned out already and this is just the primary’s. Wait until the general election gets in full force. I’m not going to get into political views and never have here. This is just a fun site about snow. I’m just curious if it’s just me who is a national political junkie normally or are other people feeling that this election has been going on for like a decade already? Don’t get me wrong either. It is exciting I suppose but coverage 24/7 on most of the news stations is nuts and with it starting so early it’s even nuttier. How many times can people say the same thing. Better yet how many times can all the Guru’s be so wrong about how the primary’s will turn out and keep blah, blah, blah-ing about it. Enough already! Just show me the primary nights and keep it at that. Ut-oh, I’m doing what they are doing. Going on about politics. End of my ranting and enough said. Have a great weekend all.
