Snowy Rochester Slips into The Lead

Update 9:45 PM:

Just a heads up that we have had another lead change but I’ll wait until tomorrow to change the stats. As of around 4:pm Buffalo grabbed the lead from Rochester and Syracuse moved into second, Bingo jumped to 3rd place and the Rock sits in 4th now. At least 3 of the cities, maybe 4 may set a snow record for the date. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top come morning. I’m off to shovel.

Current Seasons Totals as of 4 – 5 PM

Buffalo – 17.0
Syracuse – 14.4
Binghamton – 13.7
Rochester – 13.4
Albany – Enough said 🙂

The snow totals are in from yesterday and Rochester is the King of the Snow Hill. They slid past Buffalo by only .05 but enough to get them on top and they are the first GSB city to reach the one foot of snow mark.. It will be interesting to see if they hold the lead through the next update because some of the overnight snowfall hasn’t been reported yet.

Yesterday’s Snow Stats According to NOAA:

Rochester – 8.3
Syracuse – 6.8
Binghamton – 6.2
Buffalo – .7
Albany – Trace

Here in the Syracuse area I just shoveled about 5 inches of settled snow. We’ll see what NOAA comes out with later in the day or evening for the GSB cities. So far there have been 3 Leaders this season. Albany started the season out, Buffalo grabbed the lead from them and now Rochester takes over as the possible snow champion. I think it’s going to be a fun and exciting season and I’ll be posting the Golden Snowball winter outlook forecast sometime in the near future. I know everyone just can’t wait for that post, Not.

  1. Make that 22.4 for Syracue with the 1 – 2am update :)) 12.2 inches for the day setting a date record. Now it's up to the rest of the cities.

  2. Necromancer, nice pictures 🙂 I was hoping to get out today and take some. Hopefully tomorrow.

    Pawlie, it will without a doubt be interesting come morning. I'm waiting for the late night stats to come out to see if it's which city has the lead come morning.

    Patrick, no way am I counting the Rock out. That's why I didn't change the top stats. Syracuse is at 18.4 but I know once the Buffalo and Rochester stats come out that won't be enough for the lead. Good start to the season, that's for sure 😉

  3. I don't know if you can put Rock out of it so quickly. It is 11 pm here, and living close to the airport, I can say it has been snowing constantly and relatively heavily for hours now. Also, lake effect snow warnings have been extended to 5 am with ANOTHER 8-14 inches predicted by the NWS. Don't count us out yet =)

  5. We have a good shot at the lead now; snowing pretty heavily in the city, west side. Then again, NOAA counts the airport.

  7. Well it was short lived for Rochester on top. Buffalo moves back up and Syracuse slips past Rochester. I'll do an update a little later tonight 🙂
