First off as always a big Thanks to Larence M. and Alison S. for your kind donation and for taking the time to help out the snow site. Thank You Alison and Larence, I really do appreciate it 🙂

Syracuse has snowed their way into first place and the top spot on the snow hill in the Golden Snowball contest. A nice way to start out the New Year and Happy New Year from my family to yours 🙂

I’ll have to look back but I am pretty sure this is the first time that Syracuse has been in the lead this season. WTG ‘Cuse! I’m not sure how long Syracuse can hold on to the snow lead now that the cold air has finally arrived in all of the GSB cities. I’m still just shaking my head that the city leading on January 1st this season only has 4.4 inches of snow so far.

I just combined all of the cities snow totals for this season and it only come out to 17.2 inches of snow if my math is right. That is still less than what Albany’s average totals should be for this time in the season. Yeah, a pitiful snow season so far to say the least.

Stay tuned because I think there may/will be a few changes by the time the weekend is over. Have an awesome night all and Have a Great New Year!

Syracuse’s Latest Date in Season Without an Inch of Snow

According to CNY Central and Molly Matott this is the latest that Syracuse, New York has gone in a season without receiving at least an inch of snow. The previous record was tied yesterday, December 18th which was set in 1998 and broken today December 19th with the National Weather Service still only reporting 0.8 inches of snow for Syracuse this season. WTG Syracuse, now stop it and let’s get the lake effect machine cranking while we finally have some cold air around.

Buffalo’s Longest Latest Snowless Streak Comes To an End

It didn’t come to an end with a big bang, but Buffalo’s streak of the latest they have received measurable snowfall in a season has ended. It ended yesterday, 12/18 when Buffalo received a tenth of an inch of snow. Pretty much just a dusting but a measurable dusting of snow and that is what Buffalo’s snow totals as of the last update are so far this season, 0.1. Buffalo blew away the previous record by over two weeks which was set wayyy back on December 3rd, 1899 for the latest measurable snowfall at the airport. WTG Buffalo 😉 I’m really not liking this trend at all BTW 🙁

This Season’s Snow Compared to Normal and Last Season

Taking an idea (stealing, shhh) from an article I read by Glenn Coin from the Post Standard I added up some snow totals and keep in mind my fuzzy math 😉 I totaled up all of the snow that the Golden Snowball cities have received so far this season and compared them to what the normal totals should be and also to what all of the cities had this time last season. I’m pretty sure that none of you in Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, Binghamton or Albany are complaining about too much snow this season or how cold it’s been. I’m pretty sure the folks with snowmobiles, skiers and those of you that ice fish and plow probably are though and should be..

All Cities Combined Snow Totals

This Snow Season – 3.2 Inches of Snow (Really)

Normal Snow Season – 96.9 Inches of Snow

Last Season (2014-2015) – 128.2 (WOW)

Prety wild isn’t it? Enjoy it while you can because I’m pretty sure it won’t last thru the season. Then again, ya never know! Have a Great Weekend Everyone 🙂

WTG Buffalo on receiving now measurable snow so far this season breaking the old record for no snow this late in the season. Keep it up Buffalo 😉

Buffalo National Weather Service Statement – “It’s official, Buffalo has set a new record for the latest measurable snow. The previous record was December 3rd, set back in 1899. We will continue to add to this record for many days to come, with no cold or snow expected for at least the next 10 days. Here is the 6-10 day forecast, showing very high chances for above normal temperatures to last for much of the nation through the middle of December.”.

As of the last update, all of the Golden Snowball cities are behind what the average snowfall totals should be and WAY behind what we all had at this time last season. From reading around, it looks like the snow may hold off through at least the next couple of weeks butttt… A snow dance is in the works so that will probably change 😉

Have a Great night everyone!

OK, just a quick update as I just took a look at the late snow stats. Rochester has moved to the top of the snow hill and leads the Golden Snowball contest. This is the first time that Rochester has been on top for the 2015-2016 snow season.

It looks like we may have a little bit of a warm up coming which will be nice for all of you traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. I’ll post some updates if it snows and we have any changes. WTG Rochester and it looks like we have a fun snow season ahead.

Have a Great night all 😉

Updated 7 PM – Well that was a short campout for Syracuse at the top of the snow hill. I don’t think they even had time to pitch a tent while they were on top. Binghamton, NY wasn’t having anything to do with Syracuse taking over the lead from them and got enough snow to take back the top spot and Binghamton is the first city in the Golden Snowball contest to hit the 1-inch mark.

Rochester remains in 2nd place and now Syracuse gets bumped down the the number 3 spot on the snow hill. Looks like there is going to be a lot of back and fourth this season unless one of the cities decides to really snow it on to take a big lead. Where is Buffalo?

Updated 2 PM 11/23 – Syracuse took over the top spot on the snow hill once again and Rochester received their first measurable snowfall of the 2015-2016 snow season.  So far 3 of the Golden Snowball cities have snow this season and it probably won’t be long before Buffalo gets on the snowboard.  Maybe come the next update?

Syracuse slipped past Binghamton by a couple of tenths of an inch of snow and Rochester started their season off with 0.6 inches of snow which was just enough to move Rochester into 2nd place on the snow hill.  Yeah I know, pretty boring so far but just think, it’s only just begun 🙂

It will be interesting to see if Syracuse can hold on to the lead come the next update later this afternoon.  I’ve seen a few videos of some light snow falling in the Binghamton area today.  I’m not sure what is going on though in the other cities.  Stay tuned for a late day update if there are any changes in the line-up.

Snowiest Golden Snowball cities

For those of you that follow the National snow contest, the Golden Snow Globe things got going pretty good this weekend and cities are still adding to their totals.  Chicago set a couple of date records for snow and moved into 2nd place.  Anchorage, Alaska still holds a pretty decent lead in the National snow contest though almost having as much snow already as they had the entire 2014-2015 snow season.  Click Here to Visit the national snow contest!

Have an awesome day everyone 😉

Updated 11/15 – I just updated the snow stats and Binghamton received just enough snowflakes to take the lead back from Syracuse. Binghamton started off the 2015-2016 snow season, but Syracuse managed to take the top of the snow hill back from them. Binghamton wasn’t having any of that and now lead by just a tenth of an inch over second-place Syracuse.

One thing that stood out this last update was that all of the Golden Snowball cities had snow this time last season and it looks like they received it about this time in the year. Probably a good idea to break out the winter clothing and tune up the snowblowers, snowmobiles and whatever else 😉 Have an Awesome Day Everyone!
——————————————-

All is quiet in Snowsville, New York with the weather being frightfully warmer than normal for this time in the year. Binghamton and Syracuse received a little bit of snow earlier than normal but no snow for any of the Golden Snowball cities since then.

Let’s play one of our normal guesstimate games with the normal prize being a virtual pat on the back for whoever guesses it right. Which city do you think will be the first city to receive an inch of snowfall for the 2015 – 2016 snow season? Guess the city and also give a date that you think that the city will hit the 1-inch mark.

You can just comment on this post with your guesses and as always we will use the National Weather Service’s statistics. All in fun.

I am going to go with Buffalo passing an inch on 11/16

Have a Great Day All 😉
