Updated 10/28 1PM – The National Weather Service in Albany posted the snow stats for Albany and it’s now official, Albany leads the Golden Snowball contest. Really, I’m serious 🙂 It’s not too often I get to say Albany is leading but Albany received 1.7 inches of snow yesterday breaking the old date record set of 1.6 inches set back in 2011. WTG Albany!

Syracuse also set a date record picking up only 0.2 inches of snow but it was enough to break the old record of 0.1 set way back in 1962.

So, unless Buffalo has some snow to report come the next update, 4 out of 5 cities have snowfall so far which is a pretty good start for the 2016-2017 Golden Snowball contest. Stay tuned, it’s only the beginning 🙂

Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Albany Start the 2016-2017 Snow Season Contest Golden Snowball

The New York Golden Snowball for the 2016-2017 snow season has officially begun. As of the 5PM update from the National Weather Service Rochester, New York is reporting 0.9 inches of snow for today. WTG Rochester and I am still waiting for the NWS snow update for Syracuse and Binghamton. I have a feeling that both of those cities may have also received some measurable snowfall today. I could be wrong and remember, I normally am 😉

Updated 6PM – The new stats are out from the National Weather Service for Syracuse and Binghamton. Syracuse is showing only 0.2 inches for today and Binghamton is showing 1.0 inches as of this last update. I just read a tweet from the Albany National Weather Service reporting that Albany received 1.7 inches today. If this is the case it looks like Albany is in the lead. More to come on that if I hear back from the Albany NWS office.

More Snow Stats for Syracuse and Binghamton Soon

Buffalo is only showing a trace of snow so far for the 2016-2017 snow season as of this update. Albany, NY isn’t reporting this update so we will have to wait on their stats come the next update. Check back in a few minutes and I should have the snow stats for both Syracuse and Binghamton if there are any to report. AND SO IT BEGINS 🙂

Let’s have a fun snow season like we do every season and more importantly, it’s going to be a long season so stay safe everyone!

Are you feeling a bit tired of the snow? I’m sure some of the smaller towns that get pounded by snow every season and don’t get any recognition may be by now. Below is a Cute story that has been going around the internet for a couple of years now about the weather in Good Ole New York State and is one of my favorites. Author unknown!

Dear Diary

August 12th – Moved to our new home in New York. It is so beautiful here. The mountains are so majestic, can hardly wait to see snow covering them.

October 14th – New York is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves are all turned colors with shades of red and orange. Went for a ride through the beautiful mountains and saw some deer. They were so graceful. Certainly they are the most wonderful animal on earth. This must be paradise. I love it here.

November 11th – Deer season will start soon. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to kill such a gorgeous creature. Hope it will snow soon.

December 2nd – It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed with white snow. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and cleaned the snow off the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won) and when the snowplow came by, we had to shovel the driveway again. What a beautiful place, I love New York.

December 12th – More snow last night. I love it. The snowplow did his trick again to the driveway. I love it here in New York.

December 19th – More snow last night. I couldn’t get out of the driveway to get to work. I am exhausted from shoveling. Dumb snowplow.

December 22nd – More STUPID snow last night. I’ve got blisters on my hands from shoveling and I think the snowplow hides around the curve and waits until I’m done shoveling the driveway. The JERK!

December 25th – Merry Christmas. More STUPID snow! If I ever get my hands on that STUPID JERK who drives the snowplow, I swear I’ll kill the driver. Don’t know why they don’t use more salt on the roads to melt the darn ice.

December 27th – More snow fell last night. I’ve been inside for three days except for shoveling out the driveway after that snowplow goes through. Can’t go anywhere; car’s stuck in a mountain of snow. The weatherman says to expect another 10″ of snow again tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10″ is?

December 28th – The darned weatherman was wrong again! We got 34″ of snow this time. At this rate it won’t melt before the summer. The snowplow got stuck in the road and that STUPID JERK had the nerve to come to the door and ask to borrow my shovel. After I told him I had broken six shovels already shoveling all the snow he pushed into the driveway, I broke my last one over his STUPID head!

January 4th – Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get some food and on the way back a darned deer ran in front of the car and I hit it. It did about $3000.00 dollars worth of damage to the car. Those beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters would have gotten them all last November.

May 3rd – Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing is rusting out from the STUPID salt they put all over the roads.

May 10th – Moved to Florida. I can’t imagine why anyone in their right mind would ever live in that god forsaken state of New York.

Gotta Love New York!!!

Have a Great day All!

Feel free to leave a comment here as to how the snow is falling in your neck of the woods during snow storm Nemo.  We love to get updates during the storms.
———————————————————————————–

I’ve been watching a lot of forecasts today and reading quite a bit on snow storm Nemo.  To be honest I still don’t have a clue with all of the changes that the experts keep making with this storm.  It is understandable though for the fact that a shift this way or that way and everything changes.  Not to mention what the temperatures will be when it hits different cities.

The numbers went down again for some of us with the newest totals for Syracuse anywhere from 4 – 8 inches to 8 – 12 inches.  At one point in the day I was seeing 12 – 18 inches.  I’m sure it’s been the same for the rest of the cities.  From what I see it looks like Albany may be able to pile on some decent snow totals and other cities to the east should also.

As far as the National snow contest goes it looks like some cities in Massachusetts may be the big winners in that snow race.  I’m wondering if Worcester, Mass can pick up enough to take the lead.  Stay tuned and I’ll be posting the snow totals as soon as the National Weather service updates them during and after snow storm Nemo.

Hopefully some of you can grab a 3 day weekend out of this.  Stay safe and drive carefully.  See Snow – Drive Slow 😉
