golden snowball contest

Nothing new to report other than so far we are all having a below average sissy kind of snow season.Β  Binghamton continues to lead the Golden Snowball contest and Albany continues to trail the rest of the pack.

All of the cities have less snow than normal for this time of the season but all of the cities other than Albany also have more snow than last season at this time so far.Β  So you ask me what does all of this mean?Β  I tell you I don’t have a clue what it all means πŸ™‚Β  I do believe however that it is going to be a cold snowy 2013 – 2014 season or for most of it anyways.Β  Here is the difference between the normal snowfall for this time of the year and what we all have so far.

Albany – – Minus 0.9 inches

Binghamton – Minus 1.2 inches

Buffalo – Minus 3.3 inches

Rochester – Minus 1.0 inches of snow

Syracuse – Minus 3.3 inches

So in other words for you snow haters out there, enjoy the wimpy 2013 – 2014 snow season that we have had so far.Β  Father Winter is just taking it easy and planning out what he has in store for us down the snowy road πŸ˜‰

Have an awesome day all πŸ™‚

Let the games begin!Β  Syracuse has started the new season with a wimpy 0.2Β  of an inch of snow but enough to get things started πŸ˜‰Β Β  This is the first measurable snowfall of the season.Β  Well I was starting to sweat out my last post about the snow season and the Golden Snowball contest starting up.Β  Thank God NOAA came through with some snow stats, measurable snow stats to start the season up.

Albany is showing MM right now which means they haven’t reported yet or don’t know what to report yet.Β  I was surprised to see just a trace of snow with the other GSB cities expecting at least Binghamton to report some measurable snowfall.

Then I went into panic mode whenΒ Brian Cubbison from the Post Standard posted something about the contestΒ based on my earlier post for the fact when I looked at the stats earlier no snow was being reported yet.Β  OK, Enough rambling and it is official now πŸ™‚Β  Let the snow games begin πŸ˜‰

Have a Super Day All πŸ™‚

I finally woke up this morning to see some of that white fluffy gold in the sky falling and even sticking to the ground a bit. I figured a couple tenths of an inch where I live which is just outside of the city of Syracuse and not too far from the airport where they measure the snowfall for Da’Cuse. It also looked like it was snowing down toward Binghamton’s way so there is a good chance that we may have Liftoff for the new 2013 – 2014 snow season. The question now is which city/cities started it up this season?

How about Rochester or Buffalo? Any snow to report there today? From what I have been reading it’s suppose to be a cold winter this year which could mean some decent Lake Effect Snow for some of us. I’ll post an update later this afternoon or evening when NOAA posts the new stats from earlier today. Remember, ALL of the stats are courtesy of the national weather service and to this day it still amazes me how much info they have on their website.

On one other note there is a rumor going around about a big storm come the end of next week. After reading around about that it seems that right now it’s WAYYYY to far for the pros to predict but if everything falls in place perfectly it is a possibility that it just may pan out. Chances are they won’t be able to pin it down until some time next week so I wouldn’t worry about it just yet or is that I wouldn’t get excited about the Nor’easter just yet πŸ˜‰

Have an Awesome Day All πŸ˜‰

Here is an old family video of the blizzard of 66, 1966 that is taken in Syracuse, New York to help those of you who are patiently waiting for snow πŸ˜‰ I was just a little kid, the little one in the brown jacket but I do remember some of this blizzard. Mostly having a lot of fun being able to walk over neighborhood fences and sliding down our garage roof.

Of course I also remember crying like a little sissy boy throughout the day for the fact that the snow drifts from the blizzard of 66 were way higher than me and I would sink into the snow and not be able to see anything. I did let out some yells to make sure I was found each time though πŸ˜‰ Luckily there were 5 of us kids and then some neighborhood kids around so it wouldn’t take too long to get saved from being buried or lost πŸ™‚

Check out my Dad shoveling the snow in the driveway from the blizzard of 66 in Syracuse. The snow drifts were over his head too and I bet he had a blast trying to keep an eye on us as he shoveled what I am sure felt like an endless amount of snow from the driveway.

Anyways, just a little tease of what’s ahead of us πŸ˜‰ No snow to report yet for Buffalo, Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton or Albany yet other than a trace of snow. Who is going to start off the snow contest this season?

Have a Great Day All πŸ˜‰

I was just looking around and checking some stats and so on for the Golden Snowball website here as I am getting ready for the new snow season and I cam across a link to our site from the CNY Central weather section here in Syracuse that I thought was pretty cool πŸ™‚ Most of the local news stations and websites have always been great about plugging the snow contest. No doubt Sean Kirst, who gave me the nickname The Oracle of the Golden Snowball contest, and www.syracuse.com made the snow contest as big as it is today along with a bunch of others including sites from Buffalo and Rochester like The Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester and Buffalo News. There have also been some links from national websites and lots of smaller but cool blogs and so on. Thanks to all of you πŸ˜‰

But when I looked at the link on the CNY Central site I thought about a lot of my family and friends. I come from a family who has quite a few teachers in it along with a lot of friends that are also teachers. So when I saw the category that our site was listed under I kind of smiled πŸ˜‰

If you look toward the bottom of their webpage you will see some links that go to other sites under different categories. I love what the Category that my website is listed under on their site and when you see it you will catch my drift as to what I am talking about πŸ˜‰

Just call me Professor from here on please, and thank you very much to CNY Central and to all of the sites that have sent visitors here over the years πŸ™‚

Hmmm, Professor Oracle maybe???

Have an awesome day all and don’t expect any improvement in my spelling and grammar in the near future Professor or notΒ πŸ™‚

Nothing measurable to report yet for the Golden Snowball cities but that could change anytime now. Just a trace of snow for Syracuse and Binghamton being reported so far. I did hear about some white stuff falling around Binghamton so we will see if that gets reported in the update later today/this evening.

My daughter is in town from the Carolina’s and I just took my Grandson for a nice brisk walk. Gotta show him where his roots are from. I think I was colder than he was and he handled it like a trooper from the North πŸ˜‰

The national snow contest has started and it’s all Colorado. I just did an update on th National Snowiest City site yesterday. You can check that out at Goldensnowglobe . com.

Have a Great Day All πŸ˜‰
