Snow Storm Padding Buffalo and Rochester’s Snow Totals

Stay Safe All! Rochester and Buffalo are both making a charge to the top of the Golden Snowball snow hill. I don’t think either city will have enough to make Syracuse slide off the top right now but man, they sure will have enough snow to pick another snowball fight with Syracuse in the near future. Then again, who knows because I’m normally wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰

Both Rochester and Buffalo have been getting snow and a lot of it as of last night and today and it’s still snowing in both places. From reading posts and tweets online, believe it or not, it is looking pretty good that Rochester may slide past Buffalo when all of the snowflakes are added up.

Some Snow Totals From Storm So Far

As of yesterday’s update, Rochester was trailing Buffalo by 4.5 inches of snow this season. Both cities were trailing Syracuse by 20 + inches of snow but that is going to change as soon as the next update from the NWS comes out this afternoon.

I believe that Syracuse will have some snow to add by the time this storm is over but Syracuse got the warm side of the storm picking up a lot of rain instead of snow. No doubt the snow contest just got a lot more exciting than it has been this season so far with this latest storm.

Here are some unofficial snow stats so far for Rochester and Buffalo according to a tweet on TJ Pignataro’s twitter, who writes for The Buffalo News – NWS update from last hour: Buffalo (+7.9″) is now at 43.1″ for the season. Rochester (+16.3″) is at 47.0″. It is looking good for Rochester to overtake Buffalo for the second place slot in the snow contest. Better yet though it is looking pretty good that both cities will melt some snow totals off of Syracuse’s lead they have.

Snowiest City in The US Snow Contest

Wait, it gets even better for those of you who also follow the National snow contest for Snowiest Big Cities in the US. Both Rochester and Buffalo should make a pretty good charge up the Golden Snow Globe snow mountain come the next update. As of yesterday, Buffalo was in 10th place and Rochester all the way down in 17th place. I think both cities come tomorrow will be really close at breaking into the Top 5 of the contest for snowiest Big cities in the country.

Stay Safe all and take it slow – See Snow – Drive Slow! Have an awesome day and stay tuned for the afternoon update.

Updated 1/12 7:00 PM – As expected from the earlier post, Buffalo has broken the tie between they had with Syracuse as of this last update. Buffalo has passed Syracuse to sit alone at the top of the Golden Snowball Hill. WTG Buffalo!

Below are the snow totals so far for today as of 4:00 to 5:00 PM from the National Weather Service:

Buffalo – 1.3 inches
Binghamton – 0.7
Syracuse – 0.2 inches
Rochester – 0.2
Albany – Not Reporting as Normal ๐Ÿ™

No doubt there is a lot of snow left to come down in the next 24 hours. It’s going to be interesting to see which city come out on top so stay tuned and take it slow on the roads folks ๐Ÿ˜‰

1/12 1:00 PM – OK, I think the word the phrase “sleds into first” is overdoing it a bit but Buffalo is now in a tie with Syracuse in the snow contest. Buffalo added 2.2 inches of new snow yesterday to share the top spot with Syracuse on the Golden Snowball snow mountain. WTG Buffalo ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the tie between Buffalo and Syracuse will be short lived though. I’ve been looking around and seeing some pictures of some whiteouts in Buffalo just a little while ago. I’m guessing come the early evening update a little bit later Buffalo will probably own the top of the snow hill. It will be interesting to see if Rochester or Syracuse can keep up but I don’t think they will this round anyways.

Come the end of tomorrow from what I have been reading, I think it’s anyone’s guess as to which city will be in 1st place. Most likely it will be either Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse. Below are some links to the NWS site that has the latest weather for you city. Remember, I am clueless and just pretend to know what I am talking about. Always check with the Pros for your latest weather forecasts ๐Ÿ˜‰

Syracuse is going to be under a Lake Effect Snow Warning from 7 PM tonight(Tuesday) until 7 PM Wednesday night so they should be adding hopefully quite a bit to their snow totals. More Info Here National Weather Service Syracuse Snow

Buffalo is under a Lake Effect Snow Warning right now which goes until 10 PM tonight. You can check that warning out here to keep up to date Lake Effect Snow Warning for Buffalo

Rochester at last check is getting some decent snow squalls but so far no warnings have been issued. You can check out the latest weather watches and warnings for Rochester at The National Weather Service

So far there hasn’t been a lot going on other than light snow in Binghamton and you can stay up to date on Binghamton at the Binghamton Weather Statements and Warnings For Albany check out The National Weather Service for Albany here.

I know I haven’t been blogging much this season but lets face it, this snow season has been pretty boring and there really hasn’t been much to talk about until this week. I suppose I could blog about my personal life but Trust Me, that’s more boring than the snow season has been.

The National snow contest has been going pretty strong and it will be interesting to see if any of the NY cities can break into the top 25 this week. You can check out the Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest Here!

Have a Great Day Eveyone and drive safe. See Snow – Drive Slow ๐Ÿ˜‰

I want to give a Big Thanks to Alison S. for your kind donation to the snow site. It really helps out Alison and Thank You for taking the time ๐Ÿ™‚

All of the numbers from the recent snowstorm are in and Rochester won this snowball fight by a few flakes. What was I even thinking when I mentioned that Rochester could go to last place ๐Ÿ™ All of the cities snow storm totals are below and the good news is that a few of us gained on Buffalo this round.

Syracuse not too long ago was behind by around 17 inches and as of the last update are behind a little less than a foot now. Rochester has been climbing up and we know it’s just a matter of time when they make their move. Well they actually did this last storm..

Buffalo’s lead in the snow contest has melted away a little more and I think with soooo much time left in the season it’s going to end up really close again this season. Looking at the snow stats and the way the snow has been falling this season, especially this month I think all of the cities have a shot at winning. Yes, including Albany, NY Go Figure..

The snow stats below are from Saturday thru Monday and as always don’t forget about my fuzzy math when I start adding up snowflakes and crunching numbers ๐Ÿ˜‰ Rochester won this snowball fight by 1.4 inches over Syracuse. See, having the airport a little to the North does hurt Syracuse more than you think… I really thought Albany was going to win this round thinking they would get around 14 inches. WTG Rochester ๐Ÿ™‚

Rochester – 2/7 = 0.9, 2/8 = 5.5, 2/9 = 6.5 Total = 12.9
Syracuse – 2/7 = 2.1 2/8 = 3.6, 2/9 = 5.8 Total = 11.5
Albany – 2/7 = 0.9, 2/8 = 3.0, 2/9 = 6.1 Total = 10.0
Buffalo – 2/7 = 1.0, 2/8 = 2.4, 2/9 = 2.7 Total = 6.1
Binghamton – 2/7 = 0.8 2/8 = 0.8 2/9 = 2.4 Total = 4.0

Look for another update a little later and have an Awesome Day!

Updated 8 PM 2/9 –

Like Bruce said in the comment section “donโ€™t stick a fork in ROC vs Albany yet.” No way would I do that and The Roc is looking good right now. I may hand a spoon to Rochester to help them out shoveling the little bit of snow they received so far this season though ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thats a joke Roc and looking at Syracuse’s snow totals so far I don’t think I can say much ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually Rochester moved into the 3rd place slot on the snow hill this last update.

Binghamton dropped into the number 4 slot and Albany still remains in last place where they belong, I’M JOKING. Albany is actually having a good season so far and I think they will have more snow to report when they put out the next update. I still think it is going to be close between Rochester, Binghamton and Albany when the new snow totals do come out but I don’t know if they can catch Rochester right now..

Syracuse managed to melt a little more away from Buffalo and we will see if that continues this week. I’m reading about a couple of possible snow events coming up around Thursday. Check with the pros in your neck of the woods because my middle name is clueless ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have an Awesome Night All…
——————————
Updated Noon 2/9/15 –From what I am reading and from looking around it’s looking like Albany and Syracuse could make out the best from the current storm. Rochester so far is showing the highest snow totals for yesterday with 5.5 inches of snow on the day. That is probably a good thing and may be enough to keep them out of last place or Not. Looking at the radars I think it will be close as to what city ends up in last place when all is said and done ๐Ÿ˜‰

If Albany gets what they ere expecting it’s most likely going to be a good battle between Binghamton, Albany and Rochester to stay out of last place. Yup, Albany has a real shot at moving into the 3rd place spot on the snow hill this late in the season believe it or not ๐Ÿ˜‰

Syracuse has been able to cut into Buffalo’s lead a little bit and right now every snowflake they can melt away from Buffalo’s lead helps. Just a few days ago Syracuse was trailing Buffalo by around 17 inches. Right now Buffalo has a lead of 14.4 inches over Syracuse. There is a good chance the lead will get smaller come the next update to make the contest a little closer…

I don’t think Albany can catch second place Syracuse this round but they could melt some of the lead away that Syracuse has over them right now. There is only 5 inches separating the 3 cities in 3rd, 4th and last place right now so it will be interesting come the next snow update a little later on. Below are the snow totals that the cities received yesterday and not necessary the storm totals.. I’ll have to look back to Saturday night for those.

Snow Totals For Yesterday

Rochester – 5.5
Syracuse – 3.6
Albany – 3.0
Buffalo – 2.4
Binghamton – 0.8

Stay Tuned for Another Update a Bit Later and Stay Safe All!
—————————————-
Get ready because it’s time for another snowball fight in the Golden Snowball Contest ๐Ÿ™‚ This could be one that Buffalo may actually lose for a change. Buffalo has been enjoying being the King of the snow hill this season and has dug in pretty good but a few of the cities may move a little closer to them with this next storm. That said Buffalo just hit the 80 inches of snow mark for the season ๐Ÿ˜‰

Right now there are winter storm warnings out for most of the cities so check with your locals and the National Weather Service for updates. There are some links below with info as to what’s going on in your neck of the woods.

This could be a chance for Rochester, Syracuse and Albany to melt away a little bit of the lead that Buffalo has over the cities right now. From what I am reading and it still looks like the temperatures may play a part in this storm is that

Buffalo is expecting anywhere from 5-9 inches of snow between now and Monday night and so far is just under a Winter Weather Advisory at last check but that could could change. As always, keep in mind I’m clueless so check with the pros for the latest updates on this storm.

Albany may win this round and they are predicting anywhere from 9-18 inches for Albany at last check through Monday night. Still hard to believe how tough Albany is hanging this season ๐Ÿ˜‰

Binghamton is under winter storm warning at last check and is expected to receive anywhere from 6 to 10 inches between now and Monday night. It will be interesting to see if Binghamton can pass Syracuse for the 2nd place slot on the snow hill.

Rochester is also under under a storm warning and is expecting to receive 8 to 12 inches of new snowfall. Can they move into the number 2 slot??? No doubt it’s time for them to make some kind of attack on the snow hill. HINT to Rochester, measure the snow before the jets start their engines and take off this time, I’m joking ๐Ÿ˜‰

Syracuse like Rochester really needs to get in on this snowball fight. It seems like just about every snow event this season both cities have had some kind of snow dome or umbrella up to keep the snow away. Some decent snow has been around them but they just can’t seem to bring it in. Maybe this time. Syracuse is under a winter snowstorm warning and is forecast at last check to get anywhere between 8 to 12 inches through Monday night. Updated 1/28 1:00 PM – It looks like Albany did pick up some snow after all. I did see on the radar yesterday that the clipper or whatever it was did head more west during the day and that it was passing through Albany. The snow stats that were just updated added another 5.6 inches to Albany’s snow totals which would bring their 2 day total to 5.8 inches of fresh snow.

Here is where it gets weird ๐Ÿ˜‰ Albany, NY is actually still in the running for the Golden Snowball trophy believe it or not. Are they a long shot to win it all? No doubt about it but if that storm would have come just a little more to the west the chances are that Albany could have been winning the snow contest. I have to wonder after the last couple of weeks if we may be set in a pattern now for the second half of the snow season. The last couple of weeks have been active as far as snow and storms go and it looks like the next few days it may continue. Keep in mind though that I am clueless and check with the pros for the latest weather.

Last season at this time Albany was over 43.5 inches behind Buffalo which led in the snow contest. This season they are only 17 inches behind which could be made up in a matter of a couple of snow storms. All of the cities in the GSB contest are lagging behind their average snow totals to date and Syracuse really stands out being almost 30 inches off their normal average to date this season. This could be the season that Albany wins it all. Wow, I just woke up from a bad dream ๐Ÿ˜‰ I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high my friends in Albany ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a Great Day All…

Updated 1/27 12:00 PM – I must have gotten caught up in the hype yesterday about Albany ๐Ÿ™ As of the last update they remain in last place and only 0.2 inches of snow is being reported for yesterday. Keep in mind that the overnight snow isn’t being reported yet. It looked like the storm stayed just to the East of Albany pretty much keeping them out of all of the snow action that some of the other cities to the east received.

NYC also dodged most of the heavy snow with the storm hanging just a snowflake to the north but WOW some of the other cities are getting hit really hard by the snow storm that will be hanging around the northeast coast most of today.

Buffalo has added a little to the lead the last couple of days and now have a lead over 11 inches of snow over the next best snowiest city Syracuse. Rochester and Binghamton continue to slip and slide back and forth in the number 3 and 4 slot on the snow hill and this time it’s Rochester coming out on top and dropping Binghamton down to the fourth place spot ๐Ÿ˜‰ Even though it’s been a pretty lame snow season for most of us the snow contest is still really close and all 5 cities actually have a shot at winning the Golden Snowball trophy still this season. Stay tuned for another update a little later and have a great day…
———————————

Updated 1/26 9 PM – Albany isn’t reporting as of the last update so it’s hard to tell how they are doing today. Binghamton got enough snow to pull ahead of Rochester. Stay tuned because when and if Albany reports it should be interesting ๐Ÿ˜‰
—————

No, no and Hell NO! There will be no crazy talk like that ๐Ÿ˜‰ OK, there is a slim possibility I suppose but it will take a lot of snow from this snowstorm to slip past Buffalo and I don’t see that happening. Looking at what is in the forecast for Albany I think they have a real shot though at sledding all the way past Syracuse to claim the number two spot on the snow hill if Albany gets the high end of snow totals in their forecast. Wow, I think this is one of the longest posts I have made about Albany since keeping the snow stats for the Golden Snowball Contest… I wonder if our leaders in the capital took the next couple of days off ๐Ÿ™‚ I wonder if they have to shovel ๐Ÿ˜›

Albany trails Buffalo right now by a little over 20 inches of snow and is behind second place Syracuse by 9 1/2 inches. The last forecast I saw for Albany which was as of around 11 am today they were under a winter storm warning until 1 am Wednesday and calling for anywhere from 7 – 14 inches of new snowfall. Of course a slight change in the path of the storm could drop more snow or less so it will definitely be interesting to see where Albany ends up when this snow storm is done dumping snow on Albany. Click Here for The Latest Warnings and Updates for Albany!

From what I have seen it’s still looking like just a few inches of snow for the rest of the cities. NEVER take our word for it here though and always check with the pros like your local news channels and the National Weather Service. Things are always changing with these types of snow storms. Stay Tuned for more updates as the winter storm approaches and as the snow stats come in from the National Weather Service.

There is a lot going on in the National Snow Contest the Golden Snow Globe. Several of the cities on the east coast that have been quiet all season like New York City, Boston, Worcester and others should be climbing the snow mountain and maybe a few will make it into the top 10 or top 5. You can check that out Here at Golden Snow Globe..

It’s starting to look like winter may finally arrive after the nice break we had the past month or so. ย The weather pros are saying that the coldest air of the season is on it’s way which means it’s time to Crank Up The Lake Effect Machines ๐Ÿ™‚

As boring as the last month has been I am really liking the fact that all 5 of the cities are still in contention for the Golden Snowball Award so far this season. ย Even Rochester, Ha ๐Ÿ˜› ย OK, normally I would say even Albany but it seems like The Roc has been in last place just as long as Albany has been for the 2014 – 2015 snow season.

Rochester was just tied for last place again but managed to show a tenth of an inch from the overnight to pull ahead of Albany. ย Of course I am just picking on Rochester and I am sure you will be at the top of the snow hill before the season is over. ย As long as it’s not at the very end of the season ๐Ÿ˜‰

Buffalo has held the lead for a good part of the season and it will be interesting to see how that all pans out this week. ย I believe that all of the cities are expecting the cold air to stick around for awhile so the GSB trophy is up for grabs. ย Let’s hope Mother Nature can set up some decent snow bands over the LES cities and get this contest sledding again.

Sorry about the lack of posts the last month or so but I have been trying to kick some kind of sickness that has lasted almost 2 months now ๐Ÿ™ ย Between that and working on my Christmas sites it took away from the time I had to spend on here. ย Christmas is over, I’m still broke like some of ya’s but at least I will have more time for the snow sites now. ย I have been able to get a lot of updates in though this season and that should continue. ย Here is hoping for a lot of snow for you skiers, sledders and some cold air for those of you who are waiting for the lakes to freeze to start ice fishing ๐Ÿ˜‰

As far as the National Big City Snow Contest goes that is a really close contest too. ย All 3 of our cities with a population of 100,000 or more are in the top 10 and in striking distance of taking the top spot on the snow mountain away from Grand Rapids, Michigan. ย Go Buffalo, Syracuse and Rochester!

It was a choice between Dean Martin’s version of let it snow which I like or Jessica Simpson’s version. ย They guys won out this time ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have an Awesome Day All!
