I have sold a website or two in the past but without a doubt selling The Golden Snowball site is the hardest choice I have had to ever make. The Golden Snowball website has been my baby for something like 12-13 (seasons) years now and I have loved every minute of it. Whether it was just updating snow stats, answering emails or comments or doing research for one of you who may have had a question about snow or the snow contest. I REALLY Truly did love every part of being the stats keeper for the Golden Snowball contest and had a blast with all of you 🙂

For more information or to bid on the snow site click here!

I went back and forth I don’t know how many time as whether to sell the site or not. It comes down to recent developments with a recent move to North Carolina to be with my Grandson and Daughter and having some health problems since I have been here. Nothing major I don’t think and I won’t go into it but the bills are adding up being a self payer when it comes to the doctor bills and well, Enough about that and me 😉

Thanks to all of you, I was lucky enough where the site took care of itself in the winter between donations and ads that were on the site. This is only one of two of my sites that wasn’t about making money but about having fun which I have had for 12 years now give or take. That’s all because of you who have visited the site over the years. Well over a Million people both snow lovers and haters 🙂

I am hoping that someone local from one of the cities that are in the snow contest is able to take over the snow site. The website is up for sale at an auction on Flippa and unfortunately I have no control over who purchases the site. The good news in a way (for me anyways) is that if no one comes up with the price I am asking for the site then you will all still be stuck with me. It really will be nice if one of the local news channels or a local weather nut like myself ends up taking over.

The media from most of the cities and even National have been great to me, to the site and to the contest. Syracuse media including The Post Standard, Syracuse.com, CNY and TV 9. The Buffalo and Rochester media. A Big Thanks!

Sean Kirst from the Post-Standard and Syracuse.com stand out big time. I know everyone from Syracuse knows Sean from his award-winning journalism and most likely those of you that are not from Syracuse have read articles about the Golden Snowball Award that Sean has written. I am just a little peon compared to Sean when it came to getting the Golden Snowball contest going again.

Sean being the humble person he is will blow it off but Sean has been my mentor right from the beginning. I always love answering the phone when Sean was ready to write something about the snow contest. Not because of the publicity that the site would get but because I have always enjoyed just shooting the sh&* with him. The Funny thing is that when he calls he always says “Hey Pat, this is Sean”. For those of you that know him, you know he has a deep extinguished voice that can’t be mistaken for anyone else. Just once I wish I said “Oh really, I thought it was Tiny Tim”. 🙂

Anyways when it comes to the Golden Snowball Contest I suggest if anyone buys the site that they hook up with Sean because without a doubt he is the Real Oracle of the contest. The person I always turn to 😉

OK, I’m not sure if the site will sell at the price I am asking for and if it doesn’t I can honestly say I won’t be sad. I’ll be broke, lol 🙂 but I can live with it. If anyone is interested in taking over the site and I hope, keeping it pretty much like it is you can go to Flippa. com and bid on the Golden Snowball site here.

Cheers,
Patrick

First off, a Big Thanks goes out to Evelyn M. for your recent donation to the snow site. Thank You Evelyn for taking the time, I really appreciate it 🙂

Binghamton is the only city so far reporting snow from what could be our last blast of cold air. Binghamton picked up 0.3 inches of snow yesterday to bring their snow totals to 93.2 but unless some super freaky weather hits I’m pretty sure Binghamton is out of the running along with Rochester and Albany.

Syracuse’s snow lead over Buffalo is still just a little over 6 inches is looking good with the end of the contest fast approaching, but we still have some cold air around so no way have they clinched the snow title yet. All it will take is one decent band to set up over Buffalo and it will be interesting.

Looking at the snow stats I noticed that Syracuse is the only city in the Golden Snowball contest that is behind their normal snowfall to date. All of the other cities have already hit their normal snowfall for the season. Albany is winning that battle with 16.8 more snow than a typical snow season for them.

I’m guessing that after the taste of warm weather pretty much everyone is ready to get the snow contest over with and move on to Summer. It won’t be long and keep in mind that the normal call it a wrap date is May first so we are only about a week away. Stay Tuned 😉

Have an Awesome Day Everyone!

First off, I want to give a Big Thanks to Valerie A. and Deborah B. for your kind donations to the snow site. I really appreciate both of you taking the time and they do help out. Thank You Deborah and Valerie 🙂

OK, It’s still a close snow contest between Syracuse and Buffalo as we come down the home stretch. At least let’s hope that we are coming down the home stretch. It’s starting to look like it’s turning into a two city snow contest now with Rochester now behind about 20 inches of snowfall.

Syracuse has a smaller lead over Buffalo right now than they did last season at this time and last season was super close. Syracuse only beat Buffalo by 2.1 inches. Buffalo melted away Syracuse’s lead last season right through until the end of the 2013-2014 snow contest. All it will take right now is some decent lake effect or a small snowstorm to swing things around for Buffalo and slide them into the lead.

I think Rochester will have to pull off a magic trick and find a way for the snow to hit just Rochester and miss both Syracuse and Buffalo. Then again keep in mind that Rochester is the only city to beat Syracuse since the Golden Snowball contest has been started up again. If the cold air sticks around Rochester can also chip away at the lead that Syracuse has over them right now. Do we really want the cold air to stick around. I’m guessing that the folks in Rochester won’t mind losing this season if it means not having to get another 20+ more inches of snow to win 🙂

Syracuse just took the lead in the National snow contest for the first time this season and Buffalo is also hanging tough in that contest. Right now, Buffalo is in 4th place in the snowiest Big city contest in the United States. You can click here for the national snow contest.

Stay Tuned because I’m pretty sure that more snow will be falling and with the contest this close the Golden Snowball trophy is still up for grabs. Have a Great day everyone!

Updated 6 PM 1/2/2015 – After a big snow storm it there always seems to be one of the stations that show MM which means more or less not reporting 🙁 . This last update it’s Rochester’s snow stats that we have to wait for. So in other words these are the latest snow totals as of around 4 PM for all of the cities except for The Roc.

So far depending on what Rochester has to report it looks like it will be either Buffalo or Albany winning this latest round in the snowball fight. Hard to tell if it’s still snowing around Albany and if they will have more to add. Either way it looks like Buffalo will be adding a little to their snow lead. Below are the snow stats from the snowstorm that hit yesterday and today for all of the cities except for Rochester. As always, keep in mind my fuzzy math 😉

Buffalo – Yesterday 4.4 – Today 7.8 Total = 12.2
Albany – Yesterday Trace – Today 11.8 Total = 11.8
Binghamton – Yesterday 1.9 – Today 8.6 Total = 10.5
Syracuse – Yesterday 1.2 – Today 8.5 Total = 9.7
Rochester – Yesterday 2.3 – Today MM, not reporting?

Updated Noon 1/2/2015 – It looks like this latest snow storm has just about passed through all of the Golden Snowball cities except for Albany at last glance at the radar.  It should be interesting to see which of the cities got the most snow this last round.  Lets hope that it isn’t Buffalo because their lead continues to grow over the rest of us.

Below are the latest snow stats from the National Weather Service and keep in mind that these are as of yesterday, 2/1/2015 and don’t include the overnight snowfall that the cities received. So far Buffalo is winning this round but of course with the way this snow storm was moving Buffalo would have been first in the snow and first out. Stay tuned for when the early evening snow stats come out a little later..

Snow Totals as of 2/1/2015

* Buffalo – 4.4
* Rochester – 2.3
* Binghamton – 1.9
* Syracuse – 1.2
* Albany – Trace

The national snow contest has been getting pretty interesting the last couple of days also with a lot of cities jumping around. It will be interesting to see if Buffalo, Syracuse or Rochester can move up in the contest. You can check the Golden Snow Globe Contest out Here!

Have a Great Day Everyone 🙂

It’s starting to look like it’s just a matter of time if not hours before some of us if not most will have our first measurable snowfall of the season.  Binghamton has been holding onto that hefty lead of 0.2 inches of snowfall for awhile now while the rest of us are only showing a trace of snowfall.

Snow is in the forecast for all of the cities the next few days so which city do you think be the next to lead or will Bingo hang on to the top spot on the snow hill?

I was just reading around and came across a fun quiz on Syracuse.com that Glenn Coin put out.  Of course being the Oracle I scored 100 (NOT 🙁 ).  A couple of the questions were a bit tricky but give it a shot if you think you know about Syracuse weather.  Oh and let me know how you did.  You can take the Syracuse Winter Quiz Here at Syracuse.com .

As for the National Golden Snow Globe contest things are heating up. OK, that doesn’t make sense and let’s say things are freezing up with all of the cold air moving across the country. We went from 9 cities with measurable snowfall to I think around 18 as of yesterdays update. You can check that out Here at the National Golden Snow Globe Contest.

According to section 13, rule #6 – the snow contest will end on the last day of April it’s time to yell out those famous words, IT’S A WRAP.  Congratulations Syracuse on winning the 2013 – 2014 Golden Snowball Contest.  WTG Syracuse! 🙂

I have to give Kudos to Buffalo who came up just a little over a couple of inches short this season.  This seasons snow contest was the closest it’s been since the resurrection of the Golden Snowball contest.  The next closest snow race was back in the 2007 – 2008 when Syracuse bested Rochester by just 3.1 inches of snow.

This seasons victory gives Syracuse it’s second consecutive win since being topped by Rochester in the 2011 – 2012 snow season.  I was thinking that Buffalo was going to slip ahead a few times at the end but they just couldn’t pull a couple of more inches from Father Winter.  Buffalo’s last couple of seasons have been pretty wimpy as far as snow goes but this season was their highest snow total since the 2001 – 2002 season.

OK, as for section 13, rule #6, Nah, doesn’t exist although I kind of wish it did.  Several years back we agreed that the contest would be called on May 1st no matter how close the race is.  You can read my thoughts on that in a post below.  I did call two of the stations with the National Weather Service to get a little bit of input last night.  Both agreed that the chances are pretty slim that Buffalo will get more than a couple of inches this late in the year.  Buffalo has only had 4 seasons out of something like the past 130 years where they received over 2 inches in May.  One of the guys said it was probably less that a 5% chance of it happening and the last time was in 1989.  Of course now that I said that we all know it will happen.  Let’s hope not and let’s hope we all move into the nice warm, sunny weather pattern for the summer.

Thanks to all of you who visited the GSB site this season and a Big Thanks to those of you who took the time to drop some of your hard earned money by leaving a donation to the site.  I truly appreciate it 😉  A big Thanks also to the media, Sean and the others who cover the snow contest each season to make it grow every year.

A Big Congrats to Syracuse, Winner of the 2013 – 2014 Golden Snowball Trophy!  Have an awesome spring and summer everyone.
