1/6 3:30 – Well that was short lived for Binghamton. OK, maybe not because I guess as of right now Binghamton is still in 3rd place but tied with Rochester for the spot. We’ll have to wait and see what the next update from the National Weather Service has to offer 🙂 Here are the totals being reported for yesterdays snow storm..

Binghamton – 13.2 beating the old date snow record of 3.0 back in 1976
Rochester – 12.7 breaking the date record of 5.5 back in 1907
Albany – 10.4 breaking the old date record of 8.0 inches dating back to 1975
Syracuse – 10.0 inches breaking the 1995 date record of 5.6 inches of snowfall
Buffalo – 8.8 beating the date record of 5.2 going way back to 1916

All in all some pretty good totals for all of the Golden Snowball cities. Stay tuned and have a Great Day 🙂

1/5 – Binghamton Storms past Rochester to take the number 3 spot on the snow hill 🙂

OK, I just found some snow stats for Syracuse and Binghamton and it’s looking like Binghamton may be the big winner of this round. Binghamton so far has crushed their date record for snow showing 11.4 inches of snow breaking the old record of 3 inches set back in 1976.

Syracuse so far is reporting 7 inches breaking the date record of 5.6 inches of snow set back in 1995.

I’ve been trying to get an update in for awhile now but The National Weather Service’s (NOAA)website seems to be having problems. I’m sure with this big of a snow storm the website is most likely getting pounded. I was able to get some newer snow stats for Buffalo and Rochester however Binghamton, Syracuse and Albany haven’t been updated yet for today.

Buffalo set a date record picking up 7.4 inches of new snow breaking the old record of 5.2 going all the way back to 1916. Rochester also broke/tied a record for the day with 5.5 inches of snow going all the way back to 1907. I say broke because most likely Rochester will be adding more to their snow totals.

I’ll take a look later to see if NOAA is reporting some new snow stats and post them as they come in. Guessing where I am at we have about 9 – 11 inches of snow just outside of the Syracuse area. We’ll see what NOAA has for us, stay tuned…

It’s finally snowing in some of the Golden Snowball cities and all we can do is shovel, wait and see if any of the cities can cut down on Buffalo’s snow lead. Is it snowing in Buffalo?

Is it snowing right now in your neck of the woods? I took a quick look outside a little while ago and I’m guessing that around 4 inches fell so far where I am living which is just outside of the city. I’m curious if the other cities are getting snow also and if so about how much? Looking at the radar my guess is yes.

The snow totals which come from NOAA are up to date as of what fell yesterday but aren’t reflecting the overnight snow and what has fallen so far today. I will do my best to get another update in later when the early evening snow stats come out from NOAA. Of course most of them will be coming out during the SU – Pitt game and you can pretty much bet I won’t be posting them then. This game should be a good one and I think this is the most worried I have been going into a game all season. Let’s hope the SU fans at the Dome make the difference in this game…

Have a Great Day All! GO SYRACUSE, KEEP IT GOING 😉

First off, way to go to the Syracuse basketball team taking on UNC earlier and pulling off another victory. SU is still undefeated and ranked number 10 in the country. They had no problem today controlling UNC most of the game other than the very beginning. Wouldn’t it really be a shame if Arizona lost tomorrow?  AZ is currently ranked number 1 in the country and of course a loss would most likely put Syracuse in the number 1 spot. Hey, if we can’t do it here in the Golden Snowball contest we may as well do it in basketball 😉 Congrats SU and keep the streak going!

Oh yeah, snow. All of the cities had some snow to report since the last update and Binghamton added enough snow to slip past Rochester to take over the number 3 spot on the snow mountain. Binghamton has been hanging with the big 3 all season moving up and down on the snow hill. I’m sure Rochester will get things going sometime soon though and the question is which city will be the one to give Buffalo a run for their money?

Buffalo did close in on Erie, PA in the National snow contest and moved up to the number 2 spot on the snow mountain the last time I updated that site. I may get a top 10 update in tonight on the snowiest big city website if nothing comes up.

As much as I hate to see rain I have to admit that I didn’t mind the 50 degree weather today 🙂 Have an Awesome Weekend All..

Buffalo has taken the lead in the Golden Snowball contest and did it in style picking up 7 inches of snowfall.  I was hearing about the blizzard warnings that were issued for the Buffalo area and was wondering what the new totals would be.  Way to go Buffalo and keep it going or is that keep it snowing 😉

Buffalo is now only 3.6 inches away from having more snow so far this season than all of last season which was 58.8 inches.

Buffalo’s 7 inches of snow yesterday just missed setting a date record which is 7.3 inches set back in 1963.  I was reading about the high winds, blizzard conditions and the highway being closed by the governor so no doubt it had to have been pretty nasty to the west,  The same is going on and has been to the north of Syracuse,

The chances are that Buffalo will most likely move up in the National Snow contest also.  Depending on what Grand Rapids has to report Buffalo may move into second place in that snow contest.  Give me a little bit of time and I’ll get a top 10 update done at the National Snow Contest the Golden Snow Globe site.

Have an Awesome Day All 🙂

Syracuse finally got some lake effect snow to help push them to the top of the snow hill.  So far they are showing 2.5 inches of snowfall for the day to put them at the 3 inch mark.  Just enough to take the lead from Binghamton who has been sitting at the top for awhile now.

Snow is still in the forecast so it should be interesting to see what later tonight and tomorrow drops on the Golden Snowball cities.  Will Syracuse be able to hold the lead by the time the Lake Effect Machines start slowing down.  Should be interesting 😉

Then there is the possibility of a storm hitting the East Coast sometime this week.  From what I have been reading the National Weather Service should have some kind of idea toward the end of this weekend as to how that storm will pan out and which cities it may effect.  Makes me wonder if Albany may have an advantage with this one if it happens.  More updates to come as the snow stats come in from NOAA.

Have a Great Night All 🙂

I was just looking around and checking some stats and so on for the Golden Snowball website here as I am getting ready for the new snow season and I cam across a link to our site from the CNY Central weather section here in Syracuse that I thought was pretty cool 🙂 Most of the local news stations and websites have always been great about plugging the snow contest. No doubt Sean Kirst, who gave me the nickname The Oracle of the Golden Snowball contest, and www.syracuse.com made the snow contest as big as it is today along with a bunch of others including sites from Buffalo and Rochester like The Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester and Buffalo News. There have also been some links from national websites and lots of smaller but cool blogs and so on. Thanks to all of you 😉

But when I looked at the link on the CNY Central site I thought about a lot of my family and friends. I come from a family who has quite a few teachers in it along with a lot of friends that are also teachers. So when I saw the category that our site was listed under I kind of smiled 😉

If you look toward the bottom of their webpage you will see some links that go to other sites under different categories. I love what the Category that my website is listed under on their site and when you see it you will catch my drift as to what I am talking about 😉

Just call me Professor from here on please, and thank you very much to CNY Central and to all of the sites that have sent visitors here over the years 🙂

Hmmm, Professor Oracle maybe???

Have an awesome day all and don’t expect any improvement in my spelling and grammar in the near future Professor or not 🙂
