First, as always a big Thanks goes out to Xu Lailuyun for your donation to the snow site this season. Thanks for taking the time and they really do help. Thanks, Xu πŸ˜‰

OK, only 3 days left for the cities in the Golden Snowball snow contest to catch the defending snow champs, Syracuse. Yeah I know, it’s not going to happen and it’s been pretty much over for the last month or two. What a boring snow contest it has been this season πŸ™

The snow contest ends on the last day of April which is coming up. Of course, if any of the cities decided to get more snow after that date I’m pretty sure we would add it to the totals but it would probably take an executive order from one of the Mayors from one of the cities to overturn this. I’m pretty sure that almost all of you out there aren’t hoping for more snow though πŸ™‚

I do want to apologize for the lack of posts this snow season. I was able to keep the snow stats updated throughout the season but had a really hard time finding time to do as many posts as I normally do each season so I am sorry for that. The reason for that was a change in my living conditions and a couple of health problems. Nothing major and I also appreciate the several emails I’ve received this season from some of you asking if everthing was OK. Thanks!

The other reason for the lack of posts was the lack of snow. Wow, what a wimpy winter snow season we have all had this season. It’s hard to blog about snow when there wasn’t any most of the time. I think this will be the second lowest snow totals that a winning city will have since I started up the Golden Snowball website to keep track of the snow stats.

Stay tuned for the “It’s a Wrap” post come May 1st for the New York snow contest. I may have to wait a little longer for the National snow contest over at the Golden Snow Globe website.

Have a Great Day All!

First as always I want to give a Big thanks to Christopher A. for taking the time to make a donation to the snow site. It helps out more than I can express Christopher, Thank You πŸ™‚

———————————-

Of course, I am joking about the snow contest being canceled due to lack of snow this season but Wow, it’s kind of tough to have a snow contest when there isn’t a whole lot of snow falling in the cities that are in the Golden Snowball contest. I already did one snow dance this season which didn’t work πŸ™ I guess El Nino is a little more powerful that my snow dances. I do still have one left, maybe two but I think I will save them seeing how it looks like warmer air will be moving into The CNY/Western NY area soon from what I have been reading.

As I mentioned in a previous post, sorry for the lack of blogging but there really isn’t a lot to blog about. I suppose I could blog about my personal life but that’s more boring than this season’s snow contest is so that won’t work. How boring is the snow contest? Below are some snow totals comparing this season’s snow for all of the cities so far to date and what the normal snowfall should be for this time in the season and also the difference between the 2014-2015 snow season and this season, 2015-2016.

Syracuse right now has a deficit of -32.4 inches of snow compared to what they should have right now. On a good note, Syracuse is only minus 1.4 inches of snow compared to this time last season. In other words, there is still some hope in saving this season because Syracuse did get it going last season and finished the 2014-2015 snow season with 119.7 inches πŸ™‚ Just under what their seasonal snow totals should be on average which is 123.8.

Buffalo which is in second place right now and trailing Syracuse by around 15 inches of snow this last update is -33.3 inches behind where they should be for this time in the snow season on average. Compared to last season Buffalo is -28.4 inches behind what they had at this time last season. Luckily the lakes are still open for business as far as cranking out some lake effect snowfall. Just need to keep the cold air around and get a little shift in the winds compared to how they have been. One good storm and Buffalo catches up as long as it misses the other cities.

Rochester, like all of the Golden Snowball cities is also way behind what their normal snowfall should be at this time in the season. Rochester has a snow deficit of -32.3 inches of snow compared to what their normal snowfall should be at this time. Last season Rochester had 40.7 inches of snow to date compared to only 22.5 inches so far for a deficit of -18.2 inches so far this season.

Binghamton has -31.3 inches less snow this season to date than what they normally should have. Of course we all know there is no such thing as normal when it comes to snow in NY πŸ™‚ Binghamton has -26.4 inches less snow at this time compared to last season.

Then there is Albany, enough said πŸ˜› OK, Albany is behind 27.6 inches compared to what they average for this time in the snow season and Albany has -31.9 inches less snow this season compared to last season to date.

It’s been a pretty weird, boring snow season so far as far as the Golden Snowball contest goes to say the least. Like I mentioned, the lakes are still open for business, the lake effect snow machines just waiting to crank up. Maybe I should change the snow dance to an Artic Air dance πŸ˜‰

The Golden Snow Globe snow contest is starting to get exciting with cities from many different states in the Top 25. Visit the National Snow Contest Here!

Have a Great Day Everyone πŸ˜‰

Updated 1/12 7:00 PM – As expected from the earlier post, Buffalo has broken the tie between they had with Syracuse as of this last update. Buffalo has passed Syracuse to sit alone at the top of the Golden Snowball Hill. WTG Buffalo!

Below are the snow totals so far for today as of 4:00 to 5:00 PM from the National Weather Service:

Buffalo – 1.3 inches
Binghamton – 0.7
Syracuse – 0.2 inches
Rochester – 0.2
Albany – Not Reporting as Normal πŸ™

No doubt there is a lot of snow left to come down in the next 24 hours. It’s going to be interesting to see which city come out on top so stay tuned and take it slow on the roads folks πŸ˜‰

1/12 1:00 PM – OK, I think the word the phrase “sleds into first” is overdoing it a bit but Buffalo is now in a tie with Syracuse in the snow contest. Buffalo added 2.2 inches of new snow yesterday to share the top spot with Syracuse on the Golden Snowball snow mountain. WTG Buffalo πŸ™‚

I think the tie between Buffalo and Syracuse will be short lived though. I’ve been looking around and seeing some pictures of some whiteouts in Buffalo just a little while ago. I’m guessing come the early evening update a little bit later Buffalo will probably own the top of the snow hill. It will be interesting to see if Rochester or Syracuse can keep up but I don’t think they will this round anyways.

Come the end of tomorrow from what I have been reading, I think it’s anyone’s guess as to which city will be in 1st place. Most likely it will be either Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse. Below are some links to the NWS site that has the latest weather for you city. Remember, I am clueless and just pretend to know what I am talking about. Always check with the Pros for your latest weather forecasts πŸ˜‰

Syracuse is going to be under a Lake Effect Snow Warning from 7 PM tonight(Tuesday) until 7 PM Wednesday night so they should be adding hopefully quite a bit to their snow totals. More Info Here National Weather Service Syracuse Snow

Buffalo is under a Lake Effect Snow Warning right now which goes until 10 PM tonight. You can check that warning out here to keep up to date Lake Effect Snow Warning for Buffalo

Rochester at last check is getting some decent snow squalls but so far no warnings have been issued. You can check out the latest weather watches and warnings for Rochester at The National Weather Service

So far there hasn’t been a lot going on other than light snow in Binghamton and you can stay up to date on Binghamton at the Binghamton Weather Statements and Warnings For Albany check out The National Weather Service for Albany here.

I know I haven’t been blogging much this season but lets face it, this snow season has been pretty boring and there really hasn’t been much to talk about until this week. I suppose I could blog about my personal life but Trust Me, that’s more boring than the snow season has been.

The National snow contest has been going pretty strong and it will be interesting to see if any of the NY cities can break into the top 25 this week. You can check out the Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest Here!

Have a Great Day Eveyone and drive safe. See Snow – Drive Slow πŸ˜‰

OK, just a quick update as I just took a look at the late snow stats. Rochester has moved to the top of the snow hill and leads the Golden Snowball contest. This is the first time that Rochester has been on top for the 2015-2016 snow season.

It looks like we may have a little bit of a warm up coming which will be nice for all of you traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. I’ll post some updates if it snows and we have any changes. WTG Rochester and it looks like we have a fun snow season ahead.

Have a Great night all πŸ˜‰

Updated 7 PM – Well that was a short campout for Syracuse at the top of the snow hill. I don’t think they even had time to pitch a tent while they were on top. Binghamton, NY wasn’t having anything to do with Syracuse taking over the lead from them and got enough snow to take back the top spot and Binghamton is the first city in the Golden Snowball contest to hit the 1-inch mark.

Rochester remains in 2nd place and now Syracuse gets bumped down the the number 3 spot on the snow hill. Looks like there is going to be a lot of back and fourth this season unless one of the cities decides to really snow it on to take a big lead. Where is Buffalo?

Updated 2 PM 11/23 – Syracuse took over the top spot on the snow hill once again and Rochester received their first measurable snowfall of the 2015-2016 snow season. Β So far 3 of the Golden Snowball cities have snow this season and it probably won’t be long before Buffalo gets on the snowboard. Β Maybe come the next update?

Syracuse slipped past Binghamton by a couple of tenths of an inch of snow and Rochester started their season off with 0.6 inches of snow which was just enough to move Rochester into 2nd place on the snow hill. Β Yeah I know, pretty boring so far but just think, it’s only just begun πŸ™‚

It will be interesting to see if Syracuse can hold on to the lead come the next update later this afternoon. Β I’ve seen a few videos of some light snow falling in the Binghamton area today. Β I’m not sure what is going on though in the other cities. Β Stay tuned for a late day update if there are any changes in the line-up.

Snowiest Golden Snowball cities

For those of you that follow the National snow contest, the Golden Snow Globe things got going pretty good this weekend and cities are still adding to their totals. Β Chicago set a couple of date records for snow and moved into 2nd place. Β Anchorage, Alaska still holds a pretty decent lead in the National snow contest though almost having as much snow already as they had the entire 2014-2015 snow season. Have an awesome day everyone πŸ˜‰

I have sold a website or two in the past but without a doubt selling The Golden Snowball site is the hardest choice I have had to ever make. The Golden Snowball website has been my baby for something like 12-13 (seasons) years now and I have loved every minute of it. Whether it was just updating snow stats, answering emails or comments or doing research for one of you who may have had a question about snow or the snow contest. I REALLY Truly did love every part of being the stats keeper for the Golden Snowball contest and had a blast with all of you πŸ™‚

For more information or to bid on the snow site click here!

I went back and forth I don’t know how many time as whether to sell the site or not. It comes down to recent developments with a recent move to North Carolina to be with my Grandson and Daughter and having some health problems since I have been here. Nothing major I don’t think and I won’t go into it but the bills are adding up being a self payer when it comes to the doctor bills and well, Enough about that and me πŸ˜‰

Thanks to all of you, I was lucky enough where the site took care of itself in the winter between donations and ads that were on the site. This is only one of two of my sites that wasn’t about making money but about having fun which I have had for 12 years now give or take. That’s all because of you who have visited the site over the years. Well over a Million people both snow lovers and haters πŸ™‚

I am hoping that someone local from one of the cities that are in the snow contest is able to take over the snow site. The website is up for sale at an auction on Flippa and unfortunately I have no control over who purchases the site. The good news in a way (for me anyways) is that if no one comes up with the price I am asking for the site then you will all still be stuck with me. It really will be nice if one of the local news channels or a local weather nut like myself ends up taking over.

The media from most of the cities and even National have been great to me, to the site and to the contest. Syracuse media including The Post Standard, Syracuse.com, CNY and TV 9. The Buffalo and Rochester media. A Big Thanks!

Sean Kirst from the Post-Standard and Syracuse.com stand out big time. I know everyone from Syracuse knows Sean from his award-winning journalism and most likely those of you that are not from Syracuse have read articles about the Golden Snowball Award that Sean has written. I am just a little peon compared to Sean when it came to getting the Golden Snowball contest going again.

Sean being the humble person he is will blow it off but Sean has been my mentor right from the beginning. I always love answering the phone when Sean was ready to write something about the snow contest. Not because of the publicity that the site would get but because I have always enjoyed just shooting the sh&* with him. The Funny thing is that when he calls he always says “Hey Pat, this is Sean”. For those of you that know him, you know he has a deep extinguished voice that can’t be mistaken for anyone else. Just once I wish I said “Oh really, I thought it was Tiny Tim”. πŸ™‚

Anyways when it comes to the Golden Snowball Contest I suggest if anyone buys the site that they hook up with Sean because without a doubt he is the Real Oracle of the contest. The person I always turn to πŸ˜‰

OK, I’m not sure if the site will sell at the price I am asking for and if it doesn’t I can honestly say I won’t be sad. I’ll be broke, lol πŸ™‚ but I can live with it. If anyone is interested in taking over the site and I hope, keeping it pretty much like it is you can go to Flippa. com and bid on the Golden Snowball site here.

Cheers,
Patrick
