First Off as always a big Thank You to Alison S. for your donation to the website. They help out a Whole lot with the cost and time spent on the site. I truly appreciate it Alison and Thanks again 🙂 Like you mentioned, the site is here to have some fun and to help pass the season by.

Updated 3/30 7 PM – The evening snow totals just came out from the National Weather Service and The Golden Snowball contest just got a whole lot closer.

Buffalo ended up picking up 5.6 inches of new snow between last night and today. Buffalo has cut the lead that Syracuse had down to only 2.9 inches. No doubt this race is going to the end of the season. It may be the summer season but it’s going down to the end of one of the seasons 😉

3/30 3:00 PM – As of the last update Buffalo is now only 4.8 inches away from storming the snow hill to tie Syracuse and just 4.9 inches away to be crowned King of the Golden Snowball Contest.

It seems like every time Syracuse has built up a decent lead this season Buffalo comes right back with a vengeance. I’ve been telling people for the last month or so not to count Buffalo out of the snow contest this season. Buffalo has stayed within at least a foot or so of Syracuse and normally when Syracuse gets that big of a lead they find a storm to tap into. In the voice of Ronald Reagan, “Well, There You Go Again” Buffalo 😉

Both Buffalo and Rochester tapped into this last storm that missed Syracuse and the other GSB cities picking up some decent snow for this time in the season. So far and most likely there will be more to add Buffalo has added another 3.7 inches to move them up to 126.8 inches on the season. Rochester picked up 4.8 inches of new snow to move their totals up to 108.5 on the season.

Buffalo also still has a real shot at taking the top spot in the National snow contest at www.goldensnowglobe.com . Buffalo has been holding on to the #3 spot on the snow mountain for awhile now right behind Syracuse and Erie, PA. Good Luck Buffalo 😉

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody!

First off a BIG Thanks to Margaret S. for your kind donation to the site.  I can never say it enough times how much they are appreciated, help and mean to me.  Thank You Margaret 🙂

Syracuse has added a few snowflakes to widen their lead on second place Buffalo.  Syracuse now leads by 7.2 inches as of the last update.  Don’t worry Buffalo fans, there is still plenty of time left to catch Syracuse and win the Golden Snowball trophy.  It seems like every time I look at the radar something is falling in Buffalo.  Hopefully they keep the pressure on Syracuse.  Buffalo is also doing good this season in the National Snow Contest Here.

Rochester managed to slip and slide past Binghamton the last update and are now in third place. I want to say that Rochester is having a bad year as far as snow goes but they are actually over their average snow totals for where they should be for this time in the season.

Now while I was sleeping and I don’t know how I missed this Buffalo and Albany slid past what their snow totals for the entire season. Buffalo has 106.1 inches of snow right now and what they get on average for the entire season is 94.7. Albany is at 65.2 right now and their entire season averages 59.1. Way to go Buffalo and Albany on being the first cities to go over you seasonal totals. Binghamton most likely is next needing only 0.8 inches to pass their normal. Of course this season I don’t think anything has been too normal across the country as far as snow and cold goes.

1/26/14 Update – Just a quick post that even a frozen Lake Erie isn’t slowing Buffalo down.  Buffalo continues to add to their snow totals and are now just over a foot of snow ahead of the next snowiest city, Syracuse.  WTG Buffalo 😉

——————————————————————–

Buffalo is still hanging tough on top of the Golden Snowball snow hill but things could start to change. Looking at some graphs and pictures it looks like Lake Erie has frozen over. In other words it looks like Buffalo’s lake effect machine has just about run out of gas. I’m still adding to their snow totals though so they are still picking up some snow and just enough to keep ahead of the rest of the GSB cities.

All of the Great Lakes seem to have more ice than normal but keep in mind I’m normally clueless. Lake Ontario looks to be wide open and should stay that way other than the east side of the lake. Lake effect snow is in the forecast tonight for some of the cities and lets hope it pans out this time. It’s been too quiet lately and a little too cold for my liking. I think I would rather have the mid 20’s with snow than this Artic air and no snow. Just my opinion of course 😉

Where has Rochester been this season? Right now they are sitting just one spot ahead of Albany. Just one storm away from going to the bottom of the snow hill. Come on Rochester, let’s pick it up a bit and start piling on some snow. I think it’s time for some of you folks in Rochester to do a snow dance. This guy here is getting ready to do one for the Syracuse area and it will be in the next day or two.

In the National snow contest at www.goldensnowglobe.com Erie, PA is holding on to a pretty good lead right now and right behind them is Buffalo, NY. Erie’s days on the top of the snow mountain could be numbered also seeing how Lake Erie is also their main source of lake effect snow. I think the next week or so is going to get interesting, or at least I am hoping it does.

Have a Great Day All and LET’S GO SYRACUSE ORANGE!!!

Buffalo has taken the lead in the Golden Snowball contest and did it in style picking up 7 inches of snowfall.  I was hearing about the blizzard warnings that were issued for the Buffalo area and was wondering what the new totals would be.  Way to go Buffalo and keep it going or is that keep it snowing 😉

Buffalo is now only 3.6 inches away from having more snow so far this season than all of last season which was 58.8 inches.

Buffalo’s 7 inches of snow yesterday just missed setting a date record which is 7.3 inches set back in 1963.  I was reading about the high winds, blizzard conditions and the highway being closed by the governor so no doubt it had to have been pretty nasty to the west,  The same is going on and has been to the north of Syracuse,

The chances are that Buffalo will most likely move up in the National Snow contest also.  Depending on what Grand Rapids has to report Buffalo may move into second place in that snow contest.  Give me a little bit of time and I’ll get a top 10 update done at the National Snow Contest the Golden Snow Globe site.

Have an Awesome Day All 🙂

First Off – Thank You Susan R. for your donation to the website.  It’s appreciated and helps a lot 🙂

Syracuse added quite a few snowflakes to their lead over 2nd place Rochester and also set a date record for Tuesday, 4/2/13.  Syracuse picked up 10.5 inches of snow yesterday breaking the old date record of 1.4 inches back in 1991.  Syracuse also has a shot at breaking their all time snow total record for the month of April which is 16.4 inches back in 1983 if it continues for a day or two.  I think if they don’t break it by tonight I’m just about ready to say no problem, let’s move onto Spring.

Sean Kirst, journalist for the Post Standard and Syracuse.com put out a good article about this last late season snowfall in Syracuse and also how it helped them overtake Worcester, MA and Erie, PA in the national snow contest.  Check out Sean’s article at here at Syracuse.com.

For some reason I’m starting be one of the most hated person on my facebook page.  I’m talking my page that is all family and friends.  Every time it snow I get posts like cut the crap Pat, enough already Pat, You better not do another snow dance, and a bunch of other posts on my facebook page and this is family also.  It’s like my snow dances really have an effect on the weather 😉  OK, they really do and I did do one that ticked a bunch of people off but now that Syracuse has the lead in both the Golden Snowball Contest and the National Golden Snow Globe Contest I can finally do a Spring dance.  Who knows, maybe I’ll do a spring ballet dance just to prove that I really am a team player.  Nah, that isn’t happening 😉

My neighbor across the street even called and said enough.  She mentioned that I was or the snow was going to kill all of her flowers that just started to spring up.  I told her just let us get ahead of Worcester, Mass and that will be the end of me wishing for more snow.  Plus I told her that her flowers will be fine, that they are New Yorkers and they can handle it.  We all made it through another winter/spring in New York and I suppose even I have to say that it’s time to move on to our Spring season.  What’s left of it anyways 😉

Have a SUPER SNOWLESS Week Everyone 🙂

It seems the last couple of updates I’ve been adding some snow to all of the cities.  It also seems like Buffalo and Rochester seem to be gaining on the rest of us.  The question now is there enough time left for a couple more charges to the top of the snow hill.

I think there is enough time and it seems like March is a good month for some decent storms.  There is one brewing to the west right now but from what I have been reading it is expected to stay more to the south of us when it comes through.  I’m hoping that maybe the jet stream will move up to the north a bit and maybe tighten up the snow contest as we come closer to the end of the snow season.  Let’s go GSB cities!  Do a snow dance or something to get the contest closer 😉  Can the defending snow champions Rochester pull off a late season victory.  Still enough time left for them to do it.

I’m going to try and get a full update in on the National Snow Contest over at www.goldensnowglobe.com .  That snow race is still pretty close between Syracuse, Erie, Pa and Worcester, Mass.  As of the last update Syracuse was holding on to lead but only by inches.  Erie may be able to cash in on the storm coming through.  It should be/get interesting 🙂

Have a GREAT Week All 🙂
