OK, hold off on the betting this is all just for fun. The next couple of days look like it will be kind of quiet for most of the cities so as the snow season is winding down let’s lay some odds for which city will win the 2014-2015 Golden Snowball Contest. Hours of research and handicapping went into laying out the odds so I would take them very seriously when betting with your family and friends. OK, no thinking at all went into the odds and it’s all just for fun 😉

Mother Nature is the only one that knows how much snow lies ahead for all of the Golden Snowball cities, but I feel pretty confident in saying that Albany and probably Binghamton are out of the running now. I know that the NY area still gets snow in April and even sometimes into May, but I don’t see Binghamton making up 30+ inches and I definitely can’t see Albany getting 40+ more inches of snow this season.

I think Rochester still has a shot but only if they start melting away some of Syracuse’s and Buffalo’s snow this week. You may also want to talk to the Snow God 😉 Buffalo still has a decent shot, but the good folks in Buffalo may want to do a snow dance or two 😉 OK, enough already and here are what I believe the odds are as of today, March 24th.

Syracuse – Current Odds — 2 to 1
Buffalo — Current Odds — 4 to 1
Rochester – Current Odds 15 to 1
Binghamton – Current Odds 50 to 1
Albany – Current Odds — Scratched

All in fun and it will be interesting to see if the odds change in the coming weeks ahead. Have an Awesome Day Everyone 🙂

OK, It’s still a close snow contest between Syracuse and Buffalo as we come down the home stretch. At least let’s hope that we are coming down the home stretch. It’s starting to look like it’s turning into a two city snow contest now with Rochester now behind about 20 inches of snowfall.

Syracuse has a smaller lead over Buffalo right now than they did last season at this time and last season was super close. Syracuse only beat Buffalo by 2.1 inches. Buffalo melted away Syracuse’s lead last season right through until the end of the 2013-2014 snow contest. All it will take right now is some decent lake effect or a small snowstorm to swing things around for Buffalo and slide them into the lead.

I think Rochester will have to pull off a magic trick and find a way for the snow to hit just Rochester and miss both Syracuse and Buffalo. Then again keep in mind that Rochester is the only city to beat Syracuse since the Golden Snowball contest has been started up again. If the cold air sticks around Rochester can also chip away at the lead that Syracuse has over them right now. Do we really want the cold air to stick around. I’m guessing that the folks in Rochester won’t mind losing this season if it means not having to get another 20+ more inches of snow to win 🙂

Syracuse just took the lead in the National snow contest for the first time this season and Buffalo is also hanging tough in that contest. Right now, Buffalo is in 4th place in the snowiest Big city contest in the United States. You can click here for the national snow contest.

Stay Tuned because I’m pretty sure that more snow will be falling and with the contest this close the Golden Snowball trophy is still up for grabs. Have a Great day everyone!

First off as always I want to give a shout out and a Big Thanks to David G. for your generous donation to the snow site. They really do help out a lot and I really do appreciate you taking the time. Thank You David 🙂

OK, It’s starting to look like some of the snow totals forecasted for today and tonight are dropping a little bit from a couple of days ago. Hey, Happy March everyone! Unfortunately looking at this weeks forecasts for all of the cities it’s looking like March will be starting off a little snowy. I guess the good news is some of the Highs for this week are in the 20’s and maybe 30’s. Pretty sad when highs of 20’s and 30’s is good news huh 🙂

I think it will be interesting to see if Buffalo can take the lead from Syracuse and just as interesting to see if Rochester can play catch up this week with both cities. It’s looking like Binghamton may win this next snowball fight which is today and tonight. According to the forecasts they are expected to receive a little more snow than the rest of the cities in the Golden Snowball contest.

The images below show snow and at least a wintry mix for all of the cities looking ahead all the way to Thursday. Right now only 3.7 inches of snow separate Buffalo and Syracuse. I think for the time being I am going to say Syracuse will be on top of the snow hill come the end of the week. The again keep in mind that I am clueless so stay tuned and good luck to all 😉 Below is what The National Weather Service has forecast for part of this week and keep in mind that most likely it will be changing. This is as of today, Sunday March 1st…

OK, Syracuse managed to not only hold on to the lead but when all the snowflakes were counted added to their lead but not by much. Right now it’s just a matter of 0.7 inches of snow separating Syracuse and Buffalo in the Golden Snowball contest.

If I my mind serves me right and it normally doesn’t by the way even when Lake Erie was frozen over early last season Buffalo kept getting snow so don’t let that fool you. No doubt it probably slows Buffalo down some but last season proved it doesn’t stop them 😉 Last season I thought Buffalo was going to pull it off but I think Syracuse got lucky and the warm air moved in.

Last season was realty close and Syracuse had just enough snow to beat Buffalo by only 2.1 inches. I believe that last season was the closest the snow race has been since we started keeping stats in the 2002 – 2003 snow season. Is this the season that Buffalo takes the bragging rights away from Syracuse and better yet get’s Buffalo permanently engraved on the Golden Snowball Trophy?

Since the resurrection of the Golden Snowball contest Rochester has been the only city to dethrone Syracuse as snow champs. I’m still not even close to counting Rochester out this season. Rochester, just like Buffalo and Syracuse can tap into some Lake Effect snow or better yet some late season snow storms that most likely will be coming. I do think the time has come though for The Roc to start turning it up a notch and maybe even do a little snow dance to help them catch up 😉

Updated 2/22 8:00 PM – The early evening snow stats are updated and Syracuse Managed to hang on to the lead this time for more than just a few hours. WTG Syracuse. That said I hear it is snowing in Buffalo now so as always it will be interesting come the morning update, STAY TUNED 🙂

Updated 2/22 AM – According to the latest National Weather Service update Syracuse has taken the lead in the Golden Snowball contest. The stats are as of the end of yesterday, 2/21 I believe so barring any adjustments from the NWS until the next update it’s Syracuse by 0.2 of an inch over Buffalo. WTG Syracuse.

I believe and KEEP in mind my fuzzy math that this is the first time since AROUND November 17th that Syracuse has had the lead at the top of the snow hill all alone. Syracuse did have the lead for several hours around January 7th or 8th but they shared it with Buffalo at the time in a two way tie in the snow race.

Below is what I posted a little while back not counting this last lead change…

From a previous post – I was curious so I just took a look back to see how long Buffalo has held the lead this season. I also wanted to see if there were any other leaders in the snow contest (Short Memory) and here is how the snow contest has played out so far.

Start of This Snow Season – Snowfall Totals Updated 11/8/2014

* Around 11/8/2014 Binghamton was in first place and was the city that started off the 2014 – 2015 snow season for the Golden Snowball Award with 0.2 inches of snowfall. WTG Binghamton 🙂

Buffalo Take The Lead From Syracuse

* Buffalo took the lead from Syracuse the following day on or around 11/18/2014 and Rochester also passed Syracuse and jumped into 2nd place.

More to Come so stay tuned 😉

Have a Great Day Everyone 😉

Updated 2/20 7:00 PM – Syracuse continues their snowball assault on Buffalo and are now only 2.1 inches away from catching them. This weekend is going to be really interesting. Stay Safe All and Have a Great Night 🙂

Syracuse has been climbing the snow hill this last week and cut Buffalo’s lead down to just a little over 3 inches now. I don’t think Buffalo is going to give up the top spot without putting up a good snowball fight though.

This season Syracuse was missing just about every snowflake that was in the area. It seems now that they may have put some gas in the Lake Machine (Ontario Lake) because it seems to be working now. It’s looking a lot better for Syracuse which around February 6th was trailing Buffalo by 17 inches. What a difference February is making in both the Golden Snowball and The National snow contest, the Golden Snow Globe.

I believe this is the closest Syracuse has been to Buffalo since around January 8th when Syracuse was tied with Buffalo at 34.0 inches in the snow contest for a day but then fell 3 inches behind the next day. Buffalo is no way doomed and they keep adding to their snow totals too and are just an inch shy of hitting the 100 inch mark. It will be interesting to see which city hits it first. I’m gonna go with Buffalo I think. Then again as soon as I type my prediction Mother Nature does her thing to prove me wrong. I don’t think she likes me too much 🙁

Rochester is still lagging behind pretty good but I am sure they will get into the contest before it’s over. They are in the same rut as Syracuse was for most of the season. Hopefully they climb out of it and at least make this a 3 way snow race.

Have a Super Day All and Stay Warm 🙂 Yeah, lots of luck with that huh 🙁 …
