syracuse snow totals

I have to wonder if the folks in Buffalo can handle a few more inches of snow this season in order to claim the Golden Snowball Award?  As of today there is only 2.1 inches of snow separating Syracuse and Buffalo.

Time is running out but we are still stuck in this pattern that keeps bring cold air into the cities.  A quick blast of snow over Buffalo and they could dethrone last seasons snow champ Syracuse.  Do you want it Buffalo or is it enough already?

There has only been a couple of times since the contest was resurrected that it’s been this close at the end of the season and I DON’T like it.  It makes it too hard to call the contest come the 1st of May.  Several years back I went into negotiations with one of the city reps at the time.  They wanted it called April 1st and I said that it was too early to call it because we still get snow.  We agreed to May 1st but what happens if a city, let’s say Buffalo gets a few more inches May 5th and goes ahead of Syracuse?  Who was really the snowiest city in the contest?  Any thoughts?

Have a Great Day All 🙂

There hasn’t been much to post about lately with the weather being the way it’s been buttttt… That is about to change and has already changed in Buffalo. I just saw a picture that was posted showing it is snowing pretty good in Buffalo right now. Buffalo is less than 3 inches away from Syracuse, the current King of The Snow Hill. Only 2.8 inches separates them right now.  Both cities are expecting snow today which is hard to believe after the warm weekend we just had.

Can Buffalo overtake Syracuse and finally get a win under their snow belt? Right now it’s just rain in the Syracuse area but that is expected to change over to wet snow in a couple of hours. I’ll have to look back but I think if Buffalo can get ahead of Syracuse that this would be the latest comeback since the Golden Snowball contest was started up again. Don’t quote me on that though. Stay tuned and look for an update later on when some snow stats start coming out.

Have an Awesome Day All 🙂

First Off as Always – A big Thanks to James M. for your kind donation to the site. As always I cannot say enough how much I appreciate it and how they do offset the costs of the site and time spent on it. It’s nice to know that the site and hours that go into it are appreciated. Thanks again James and to the rest of you who have donated 🙂

Are you one of those people that the glass is half full or half empty?  If it’s half full then the good news is that I had over 25 Robins flying around the yard today.  The Robins have returned which is a good sign of what is right around the corner 🙂  The not so good news for those of you with half empty glasses is that they were dodging snowflakes as they were chasing the squirrels away.

The Robins Have Returned

At one point there were about 15 of them digging for worms in a little spot that had some grass showing and of course the snow was all around them.  They must have eaten well on their trip back because they were fat.  Either that or they were all females waiting to lay some eggs sometime soon.  It’s just nice to see them back and rumor has it that come the end of NEXT week we may be turning the page on this winter season.

Syracuse continues to hold the top spot on the snow hill but Buffalo is still just a storm away from them.  I think it’s getting to the point, make that past the point where most people don’t want any more snow.

The National Snow Contest has been really close also with Erie, PA holding the lead for most of the season.  Syracuse was able to tie and then pass them but that only lasted for about a day.  Right now only 2 inches separate the top spot and Buffalo even has a slight chance at being crowned the Snowiest BIG City in the US.  You can check that out at www.goldensnowglobe.com .

Have an Awesome Night All!

First off a BIG Thanks to Margaret S. for your kind donation to the site.  I can never say it enough times how much they are appreciated, help and mean to me.  Thank You Margaret 🙂

Syracuse has added a few snowflakes to widen their lead on second place Buffalo.  Syracuse now leads by 7.2 inches as of the last update.  Don’t worry Buffalo fans, there is still plenty of time left to catch Syracuse and win the Golden Snowball trophy.  It seems like every time I look at the radar something is falling in Buffalo.  Hopefully they keep the pressure on Syracuse.  Buffalo is also doing good this season in the National Snow Contest Here.

Rochester managed to slip and slide past Binghamton the last update and are now in third place. I want to say that Rochester is having a bad year as far as snow goes but they are actually over their average snow totals for where they should be for this time in the season.

Now while I was sleeping and I don’t know how I missed this Buffalo and Albany slid past what their snow totals for the entire season. Buffalo has 106.1 inches of snow right now and what they get on average for the entire season is 94.7. Albany is at 65.2 right now and their entire season averages 59.1. Way to go Buffalo and Albany on being the first cities to go over you seasonal totals. Binghamton most likely is next needing only 0.8 inches to pass their normal. Of course this season I don’t think anything has been too normal across the country as far as snow and cold goes.

Updated 12/15 8:30 PM – Hold the press!  That was a short lived lead for Syracuse.  The last update from NOAA shows that Buffalo has taken the lead by 1 snowflake or a tenth of an inch.  Really, it’s Buffalo on top, for a little while anyways but it’s nice to see them in the top spot.  There is a good chance that come morning there may be another lead change for the fact that Rochester wasn’t showing any new stats for whatever reason.  Stay Tuned and WTG Buffalo.  Could this be their season that they take the trophy?

Updated 12/15 10:00 AM – Syracuse has taken the lead from The Roc who is now tied with Buffalo for second.  It’s Syracuse on the top of the snow hill but only by an inch.  I’m loving how 4 of the Golden Snowball cities are keeping up with each other and keeping it close so far this season 🙂

When I was doing this update I was actually pulling for Buffalo believe it or not because it seems like it’s been quite awhile since they have been able to hold onto the lead.  All is pretty quiet right now and we’ll see what the later day update has to show as far as snow totals go.

Have a Great Day All and GO SU ORANGE BASKETBALL TODAY 🙂

First off sorry about the lack of updates the last couple of days.  I’ve been still moving and didn’t have internet access other then the local library and time is limited there so I had to work on some of my other sites that pay the bills.  Also a Thanks to someone who donated to the website but didn’t want her name listed.  I do appreciate the kindness and your donation.  Thank You 🙂

OK, I received an email that I can’t find now but I think it was from maybe Dave pointing out that Buffalo jumped ahead of Syracuse.  I’m not sure if they will be ahead come morning but they are up a couple of flakes right now..  Thanks for the heads up 🙂

It’s bedtime here for now and I’ll get another update in come tomorrow morning and hopefully a full update also on the National Snow contest.

First Off – Thank You Susan R. for your donation to the website.  It’s appreciated and helps a lot 🙂

Syracuse added quite a few snowflakes to their lead over 2nd place Rochester and also set a date record for Tuesday, 4/2/13.  Syracuse picked up 10.5 inches of snow yesterday breaking the old date record of 1.4 inches back in 1991.  Syracuse also has a shot at breaking their all time snow total record for the month of April which is 16.4 inches back in 1983 if it continues for a day or two.  I think if they don’t break it by tonight I’m just about ready to say no problem, let’s move onto Spring.

Sean Kirst, journalist for the Post Standard and Syracuse.com put out a good article about this last late season snowfall in Syracuse and also how it helped them overtake Worcester, MA and Erie, PA in the national snow contest.  Check out Sean’s article at here at Syracuse.com.

For some reason I’m starting be one of the most hated person on my facebook page.  I’m talking my page that is all family and friends.  Every time it snow I get posts like cut the crap Pat, enough already Pat, You better not do another snow dance, and a bunch of other posts on my facebook page and this is family also.  It’s like my snow dances really have an effect on the weather 😉  OK, they really do and I did do one that ticked a bunch of people off but now that Syracuse has the lead in both the Golden Snowball Contest and the National Golden Snow Globe Contest I can finally do a Spring dance.  Who knows, maybe I’ll do a spring ballet dance just to prove that I really am a team player.  Nah, that isn’t happening 😉

My neighbor across the street even called and said enough.  She mentioned that I was or the snow was going to kill all of her flowers that just started to spring up.  I told her just let us get ahead of Worcester, Mass and that will be the end of me wishing for more snow.  Plus I told her that her flowers will be fine, that they are New Yorkers and they can handle it.  We all made it through another winter/spring in New York and I suppose even I have to say that it’s time to move on to our Spring season.  What’s left of it anyways 😉

Have a SUPER SNOWLESS Week Everyone 🙂
