Updated 12/11 5:30 PM – Well if you blinked then you missed it. Syracuse took over the lead (read below) from Buffalo after yesterdays snow totals were reported. That didn’t last long and Buffalo won today’s snowball fight picking up 8.0 inches so far and will probably be adding to that.

Buffalo also broke a date record already showing 8.0 inches so far today breaking the old record of 6.4 inches set back in 1970. WTG Buffalo. It may get even better for Buffalo when I do an update in the National snow contest. They have jumped into second place I believe and are launching a heavy attack on Grand Rapids, Michigan right now in an attempt to take over the top spot. I will be updating the top 25 in that contest in a bit. Check out the Golden Snow Globe Contest Here!

Updated 12/11 – 9 AM – It’s official, Syracuse has taken the lead from Buffalo thanks to snow storm Damon which dropped 11.8 inches of snowfall yesterday in Syracuse. Syracuse also broke a date record while taking the lead breaking the old record of 8.4 inches which dated back to 1978.

Keep in mind that the snow stats are updated as of yesterdays snowfall. I don’t believe any of the overnight snow has been added so the snow lineup will most likely be changing come the next update later today…

The snow race is close and surprisingly all of the cities have a shot at the top spot including (snicker) Albany, NY which is in second place right now and only a couple of inches away from taking the lead. REALLY πŸ™‚ Buffalo dropped down to the number 3 spot on the snow hill and I’m sure they will be back on top in no time.

Surprisingly Rochester is still in last place. I thought they were going to climb out of last place with this storm but all of the Golden Snowball cities cashed in just enough to stay ahead of them. Still seems funny seeing The Rock in last. Then again it seems even funnier seeing Albany in 2nd place and with that much snow on the season this early. Right now Albany already has more than a third of their snowfall for the season. Go Albany!

Below are the storm totals we have so far and as always keep in mind my fuzzy math problem that I have πŸ˜‰

Syracuse – 11.9
Albany – 9.7
Rochester – 8.7
Binghamton – 7.7
Buffalo – 1.3

Have a Great day and look for another update a bit later πŸ™‚

Updated 12/10 – 11:30 PM – Syracuse is reporting 11.5 inches so far for today as of 10 PM. I’m holding off on moving both Syracuse and Binghamton up the snow hill for the fact that the other 3 cities haven’t reported yet as I’m typing and their stats won’t come out until tomorrow, early morning. I’m looking forward to seeing which city is in the lead come morning. I’ll do an update when I wake up. Ummm, Just a heads up that I tend to sleep in every now and then πŸ˜‰ Drive careful everyone…

Updated 12/10 6 PM – Syracuse is winning this round of snowfall so far and has slid into the second place slot on the hill as of the last update. Below are the snow stats that are being reported for yesterday and today. Keep in mind that Albany isn’t reporting this update.

Syracuse – 11.6
Binghamton – 7.1
Rochester – 3.6
Albany – 3.6 Yesterday, Not Reporting for Today
Buffalo – Trace

Updated – 12/10 10:30 AM – Albany slips past Binghamton and moves into second place on the snow hill. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see which city is in the lead by the time this storm is over πŸ™‚ .

Well the snow is finally falling in CNY and it looks like Rochester may be getting in on the fun too. The roads are slick so take it slow. Here is a good up date of some official and nonofficial snow stats measure across NY in the areas that the snow has been falling. Because of the temperatures the snow got a later start than I think was expected so we’ll have to wait and see if we all can make up for it.

Snow Storm Damon Totals so far from the National Weather Service

—————————————————-

Another snow storm is heading up the coast and heading our way and this storm may help Syracuse’s and Binghamton’s snow totals out. Β Snow storm Damon is expected to drop several inches and maybe up to a foot of new snow around the Syracuse and Binghamton area. Β As always, these storms are hard for the pros to predict because the path of the storm can change plus it also depends on whether the temps stay above or below freezing.

Keep in mind also as always, we are clueless here so check with your favorite forecasters the next few days for your area. Β Below are some links to the National Weather Service with the latest snow storm watches and warnings. Β Most likely I’ll be updating this section with all of the cities new snow totals as they come in.

It will be interesting to see if the storm moves to the west enough to help Rochester and Buffalo add some snow to their totals. Β I think Albany will get something and how much will depend on when it changes over from rain to snow. Right now Buffalo, Rochester and Albany are under Storm watches while Syracuse and Binghamton are under storm warnings. Watches means mean the potential is there so keep an eye on what’s going on. Warnings mean the storm is expected to pan out. Not exactly in those words but I’m sure you get my drift πŸ˜‰

Nor'easter Snow Storm Damon Syracuse and Binghamton, NY

AGAIN, clueless is typing this πŸ˜‰ Β From reading around it looks like it will start with rain in some of the cities, maybe trow in a mix of freezing rain and then switch over to snow as the temps drop. Β Check below for the snow storm warnings and estimated time of the arrival of storm Damon. Β

I just want to say Thanks Joe. A for your donation to the site and for taking the time. I appreciate it and it helps out a lot πŸ™‚

OK, I normally try to keep the snow site fun after all that’s what it’s all about. Having fun and maybe helping the winter season pass by a little faster. That said what’s going on in the surrounding Buffalo area is I think one of the most serious situations I have seen. With that I am just going to post a couple of comments that were were posted and you won’t hear me say this too often but I do hope the snow stops soon. Here is what Angelo posted in a comment to the site and my reply.

Angelo – “Just wanted to update you guys, official snow fall in my town of Lancaster over last 2 days is 73 inches, south buffalo has about 65 on the ground. Airport is on the border of the heavy snow line but should receive another foot tonight and tomorrow. Lancaster is looking at another 20 plus inches in the same time frame. Maybe we can reach that magic number of 100 inches! In all seriousness this storm has claimed 7 lives so far and has collapsed a number of roofs and with the additional snow and 50 degree temps we will be seeing Sunday through Tuesday I’m sure we will be seeing even more collapses and major flooding. Wish us luck!”

Me – “Hey Angelo, Wow is still the only word that comes to mind. It’s cool seeing the numbers, pictures and videos but then again I wish I wasn’t seeing them because I know how serious the situation is there and all around there. Definitely Good Luck to all of you effected and I hope there are no more deaths from this unbelievable snowfall. My thought s and Yes prayers are with all of you. I’m not looking forward to what we will most likely be reading once the temps start going up. Stay Safe,”

I wish Nothing but the best to our friends in the Buffalo area πŸ˜‰
Patrick

First a Big Thanks to Jonathon T for your donation to the website. The donations help me out a lot at offsetting some of the costs and also lets me know the hours put into the contests are appreciated. Thanks Jonathon πŸ™‚

OK, I had to hurry up and get that out, that Buffalo is in last place in the Golden Snowball contest. Chances are I won’t be saying that for awhile with all of the lake effect snow that they are expecting the next couple of days. So, Yup, Buffalo is in dead last place and even behind Albany, snicker πŸ˜‰

From reading around the weather sites it’s looking like it is still a go for Buffalo to receive close to a couple of feet and maybe even more. Hopefully for you snow lovers the snow bands will set up just right and hang over the airport. Don’t underestimate this either because with the wind and that amount of snow there is no doubt it will be dangerous out there so Drive careful and stay safe.

buffalo and erie, pa lake effect storm

Predictions For Snow

I just added 0.6 of an inch to Buffalo’s totals so the chances are that it is snowing right now there. It will also be interesting to see if Buffalo can over take Erie, Pa in the National Snow Contest Here. Right now Buffalo isn’t even in the top 25 snowiest cities but if this all pans out they should most likely jump to at least second place in the contest. Depending on how Erie makes out with the lake effect snow Buffalo may even have a shot at taking the top spot on the snow mountain in the Golden Snow Globe contest. Stay Tuned!

Things are starting to get interesting as far as the Golden Snowball contest goes. I’m looking at anywhere between 8-12 inches of new snow in my driveway right now which is a little east of the airport. It will be interesting to see if the airport received as much as we did in the Syracuse area. If so it’s going to be a close snow contest at the top.

The new totals don’t include any overnight snow I believe so they will/should be going up a little later when some new snow stats come out from the National Weather Service. Binghamton managed to slip by Rochester with this last storm and to be honest I was surprised that Rochester had some snow to report. The chances are that the storm made it far enough to the west to give them a little snow. Just a couple of days back it didn’t even look like the storm was going to be west enough for Syracuse to get in on it yet a lone Rochester.

I’m guessing that Albany, Binghamton and Syracuse will make out the best with this recent storm and like I mentioned we will find out later when the new snow stats come out. Here is what is being reported so far which is for yesterday.

Albany – 5.6
Binghamton – 4.3
Syracuse – 4.1
Rochester – 1.9
Buffalo – Trace

Stay Tuned and look for another update come later in the day. See Snow – Drive Slow – Stay safe all πŸ˜‰

First off a Big Shout Out to the Syracuse men’s basketball team for pulling off another unbelievable come from behind victory once again against Pittsburgh. For those of you who were lucky enough to catch the game you can relate to it doesn’t get any better than that. WTG Syracuse, keep it going and Thanks for the exciting season so far πŸ™‚

Speaking of a come from behind victory that’s what it’s going to take to knock Buffalo off the top of the snow hill. Buffalo has been sitting up there for awhile now just looking down on the rest of us. Syracuse has been chipping away at Buffalo’s lead the last week or so to bring Buffalo’s lead to less than a foot of snow now. With the storm that’s going on to the east it will be interesting to see if Syracuse can at least tap into a couple inches of snow from it. Buffalo is currently ahead by 9 inches of snow over 2d place Syracuse.

Right now it’s looking like Albany and probably Binghamton will make out the best from this storm that’s going on right now. My grandson who is down in the Carolina’s is at least getting to have some fun in the snow πŸ™‚ He’s been out in the snow a couple of times here but normally when they visit the timing hasn’t been great for any decent snow. The last storm they got down in the south he got out in it and learned that snow is really cold by falling face first in it. I think he’s learned πŸ˜‰

One other note is that a visitor suggested that I start putting the time when I post the stats which I thought was a great idea. I normally do if I am doing several updates during a storm but not every day. Anyways providing I remember I will put the time of the update at the top of the snow stats where I have it right now. This kind of gives you an idea if the stats were just from the previous day or if some of the current days snow stats were added too. Normally any of the updates before 5 – 6 PM only include the previous days snow totals. Obviously I try to get a couple updates in a day if I see it is snowing in one of the cities. Stay Tuned, it should be interesting to see how the cities lineup when this storm to the east is over. It is sooo close but yet sooo far away πŸ™

Have a Great Day All!
