golden snowball contest

Rochester added another inch to their totals and I have to admit that it’s not looking good right now for the other GSB cities.  Looking at the forecast for the next week or so with the lows still going below freezing it’s still too early to concede not to mention the contest doesn’t end until April 30th at midnight.

When the time does come no doubt the word concede is the perfect word to use.  Definition of concede – The word concede to Admit that something is true or valid after first denying or resisting it.

I think reality is setting in for those of us in the Syracuse area.  Hope for a strong comeback slowly fading away now with each day that passes by.  After nine seasons, the chance of the Golden Snowball trophy staying where it’s been, just outside of the Mayors office on a shelf will soon be heading west.  West to Rochester, New York which will be the first time since the resurrection of the golden snowball contest began About 10 years ago.

Although the hope is fading for repeat snow champions Syracuse we’re just not quite ready to concede just yet 🙂  It will be interesting to see how the city of Syracuse presents the trophy to Rochester if they do hold on for the victory.  Any thoughts or suggestions to pass along to the Mayors office?

Shameless Plug – I’m still pushing my pet products sites which should have just about anything you may be looking for. Cat and dog food, dog houses, pet meds, toys, leashes and collars, travel cages and more.  Feel free to check it out at Pets Supply Stores and thanks 🙂

Have a Happy Easter All…

Last Friday I was just relaxing and started thinking about the contest this season and how good it’s looking for Rochester hosting the Golden Snowball trophy for a year.  For the last several years I’ve been kind of hoping that one of the other cities other than Syracuse would step up and take the trophy from Da’Cuse.  Let’s face it, the contest gets a little bit boring when it’s the same city winning it every season.  Then I started thinking, nahhh, let’s keep it here.

I started thinking that hey, we aren’t going down at least not without a snowball fight to keep the trophy here in Syracuse.  So I did it.  OK, so I confess!  I did a snow dance 🙁  I did one last LITTLE snow dance geared at getting some cold air back into CNY.  OK, not CNY but into Syracuse and I even tried to get it to just hit the airport.  That way if it works I wouldn’t get a lot of hate mail and have the neighbors turn against me and start throwing snowballs at the house 😉  I really do have a neighbor who blames me and the contest every time it snows.

Anyways it looks like there is a chance for some snow come sometime Friday night & Early Saturday.  From reading around right now it doesn’t look like it will be much snow and sounds like it will be to the south.  This may give Binghamton a chance to gain a little ground on the snow hill.  It could get interesting if something changes and this Storm system gets a little stronger.

Hey it is still March folks and it’s not over until the fat man sings and I’m not singing yet 🙂

Have a Super Snowy Weekend All 😉

First off you might see some articles today saying the Golden Snowball contest is over.  The contest doesn’t end the first day of Spring and fortunately/unfortunately depending how you look at it goes on til the end of April when the chances of no more snow falling are pretty good.

Happy Spring all!!!  Normally I would say something like Hello Spring – Goodbye Winter but it just doesn’t seem right this year does it?  It’s hard to say goodbye to something that never showed up in the first place.  The sound of Spring does sound pretty good though and it will be interesting to see if we can stay on whatever pattern we are on right now.  The one that’s brought us unbelievable weather throughout the winter months and has set records all over the charts.  Not the good kind of records that those who snomobiler’s, ice fishermen or ski resorts like but the kind that those who hate winter love.

Rochester continues to lead the contest but I’m not throwing in the shovel just yet.  It is looking pretty good for The Rock but with a winter like we just had, a snow season that I can not remember ever having who knows what spring wil throw at us.  Right now it’s some nice sunny 70 – 80 degree days which is hard for even us snow lovers not to appreciate.  Stay Tuned!

Here are a couple of good articles.  One about this being the earliest vernal equinox, spring since 1896  and another from Syracuse .com’s John Mariani about the winter that never was.

Have a Great week all and enjoy the sunshine 🙂

Happy Valentines Day to all you Snow Birds, I mean Love Birds 😉

Syracuse who????  Rochester has plowed past Syracuse with the latest update from the National Weather Service.  So far today the Rock has picked up 10.1 inches of snow blowing away the competition for the day.  Binghamton managed to move back into 3rd place but we will see if that lasts long.  I’ll get an update in tomorrow morning when all of the totals for today are up to date.  Good call Dave and Charles and Way To Go Rochester!!!!

1/30 8:30 pm – All the stats should be up to date right now other than Albany who hasn’t reported this last update.

————————————————-

Ahhh, the clean, fresh look of a new snowfall.  Something we haven’t been seeing much of this season.  All of the cities including Albany are still in the snow race.  I still have a hard time saying Albany still has a shot at winning this late in the season.  All as it will take is a nice nor’easter or two that hangs to the east of Syracuse and they are golden 🙂

Buffalo set a date record with 4.4 inches of snow breaking the old record from 1909 of 4.3 inches of snow.  Rochester picked up 4.8 inches yesterday while Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany are showing little or no snow for yesterday but most of their snow if any came during the overnight which isn’t being reported yet.  Syracuse should have several more inches to add to their totals come the next NOAA update and I’m not quite sure about Albany and Bingo.

Our snow contest got a mention in the Wall Street Journal today which is pretty cool IMO.  Meteorologist Eric Holthaus writes some weather articles for the WSJ and gave us a mention.  Thanks Eric 🙂  You can check it out at http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2012/01/30/weather-journal-what-even-happened-to-winter/

I’ll update the snow totals when NOAA puts them up later this evening.  Have a Great Monday All 🙂

It’s gonna be close as far as Stephen’s point blank forecast goes but I think if I were him I may want to do a snow dance and fast. 😉  See his predictions below!  Binghamton, the southern most city in the Golden Snowball contest is the first city to receive 12 inches of snow.  I was thinking a few of the cites would have hit that with what was in the forecast but that turned out to be a bust for all of the GSB cities.

It still looks like a couple of the cities can add to their totals but it’s not looking like a whole lot unless the LES gets going again.  For now Binghamton is looking pretty good to hold on to the lead for at least the overnight.

I saw my neighbor Jim loading his snowmobile onto his truck yesterday afternoon.  I’m guessing he wasn’t heading to Bingo but probably up north around Tug HIll or some place close to there where it looked like the snow was coming down.  Maybe Mexico?  Sooner or later it has to hit.  Err, it does have to snow sooner or later doesn’t it?  In the mean time head north my snow loving friends, head north 🙂

Have a GREAT Week All!
