WTG Buffalo on receiving now measurable snow so far this season breaking the old record for no snow this late in the season. Keep it up Buffalo ๐Ÿ˜‰

Buffalo National Weather Service Statement – “It’s official, Buffalo has set a new record for the latest measurable snow. The previous record was December 3rd, set back in 1899. We will continue to add to this record for many days to come, with no cold or snow expected for at least the next 10 days. Here is the 6-10 day forecast, showing very high chances for above normal temperatures to last for much of the nation through the middle of December.”.

As of the last update, all of the Golden Snowball cities are behind what the average snowfall totals should be and WAY behind what we all had at this time last season. From reading around, it looks like the snow may hold off through at least the next couple of weeks butttt… A snow dance is in the works so that will probably change ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a Great night everyone!

OK, just a quick update as I just took a look at the late snow stats. Rochester has moved to the top of the snow hill and leads the Golden Snowball contest. This is the first time that Rochester has been on top for the 2015-2016 snow season.

It looks like we may have a little bit of a warm up coming which will be nice for all of you traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. I’ll post some updates if it snows and we have any changes. WTG Rochester and it looks like we have a fun snow season ahead.

Have a Great night all ๐Ÿ˜‰

Updated 7 PM – Well that was a short campout for Syracuse at the top of the snow hill. I don’t think they even had time to pitch a tent while they were on top. Binghamton, NY wasn’t having anything to do with Syracuse taking over the lead from them and got enough snow to take back the top spot and Binghamton is the first city in the Golden Snowball contest to hit the 1-inch mark.

Rochester remains in 2nd place and now Syracuse gets bumped down the the number 3 spot on the snow hill. Looks like there is going to be a lot of back and fourth this season unless one of the cities decides to really snow it on to take a big lead. Where is Buffalo?

Updated 2 PM 11/23 – Syracuse took over the top spot on the snow hill once again and Rochester received their first measurable snowfall of the 2015-2016 snow season. ย So far 3 of the Golden Snowball cities have snow this season and it probably won’t be long before Buffalo gets on the snowboard. ย Maybe come the next update?

Syracuse slipped past Binghamton by a couple of tenths of an inch of snow and Rochester started their season off with 0.6 inches of snow which was just enough to move Rochester into 2nd place on the snow hill. ย Yeah I know, pretty boring so far but just think, it’s only just begun ๐Ÿ™‚

It will be interesting to see if Syracuse can hold on to the lead come the next update later this afternoon. ย I’ve seen a few videos of some light snow falling in the Binghamton area today. ย I’m not sure what is going on though in the other cities. ย Stay tuned for a late day update if there are any changes in the line-up.

Snowiest Golden Snowball cities

For those of you that follow the National snow contest, the Golden Snow Globe things got going pretty good this weekend and cities are still adding to their totals. ย Chicago set a couple of date records for snow and moved into 2nd place. ย Anchorage, Alaska still holds a pretty decent lead in the National snow contest though almost having as much snow already as they had the entire 2014-2015 snow season. ย Click Here to Visit the national snow contest!

Have an awesome day everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have sold a website or two in the past but without a doubt selling The Golden Snowball site is the hardest choice I have had to ever make. The Golden Snowball website has been my baby for something like 12-13 (seasons) years now and I have loved every minute of it. Whether it was just updating snow stats, answering emails or comments or doing research for one of you who may have had a question about snow or the snow contest. I REALLY Truly did love every part of being the stats keeper for the Golden Snowball contest and had a blast with all of you ๐Ÿ™‚

For more information or to bid on the snow site click here!

I went back and forth I don’t know how many time as whether to sell the site or not. It comes down to recent developments with a recent move to North Carolina to be with my Grandson and Daughter and having some health problems since I have been here. Nothing major I don’t think and I won’t go into it but the bills are adding up being a self payer when it comes to the doctor bills and well, Enough about that and me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks to all of you, I was lucky enough where the site took care of itself in the winter between donations and ads that were on the site. This is only one of two of my sites that wasn’t about making money but about having fun which I have had for 12 years now give or take. That’s all because of you who have visited the site over the years. Well over a Million people both snow lovers and haters ๐Ÿ™‚

I am hoping that someone local from one of the cities that are in the snow contest is able to take over the snow site. The website is up for sale at an auction on Flippa and unfortunately I have no control over who purchases the site. The good news in a way (for me anyways) is that if no one comes up with the price I am asking for the site then you will all still be stuck with me. It really will be nice if one of the local news channels or a local weather nut like myself ends up taking over.

The media from most of the cities and even National have been great to me, to the site and to the contest. Syracuse media including The Post Standard, Syracuse.com, CNY and TV 9. The Buffalo and Rochester media. A Big Thanks!

Sean Kirst from the Post-Standard and Syracuse.com stand out big time. I know everyone from Syracuse knows Sean from his award-winning journalism and most likely those of you that are not from Syracuse have read articles about the Golden Snowball Award that Sean has written. I am just a little peon compared to Sean when it came to getting the Golden Snowball contest going again.

Sean being the humble person he is will blow it off but Sean has been my mentor right from the beginning. I always love answering the phone when Sean was ready to write something about the snow contest. Not because of the publicity that the site would get but because I have always enjoyed just shooting the sh&* with him. The Funny thing is that when he calls he always says “Hey Pat, this is Sean”. For those of you that know him, you know he has a deep extinguished voice that can’t be mistaken for anyone else. Just once I wish I said “Oh really, I thought it was Tiny Tim”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyways when it comes to the Golden Snowball Contest I suggest if anyone buys the site that they hook up with Sean because without a doubt he is the Real Oracle of the contest. The person I always turn to ๐Ÿ˜‰

OK, I’m not sure if the site will sell at the price I am asking for and if it doesn’t I can honestly say I won’t be sad. I’ll be broke, lol ๐Ÿ™‚ but I can live with it. If anyone is interested in taking over the site and I hope, keeping it pretty much like it is you can go to Flippa. com and bid on the Golden Snowball site here.

Cheers,
Patrick

First off Congrats to Rochester on joining the 100 inches of snow club ๐Ÿ™‚ Rochester is the 3rd city in the Golden Snowball contest to join both Syracuse and Buffalo in the 100 inch club. Now keep it going Roc to make this a 3-way race this season.

It was only about 4-5 days ago where it was starting to look pretty good for Syracuse. Syracuse had an almost 10 inch lead on Buffalo but as always and pretty much what happened last season Buffalo stepped it up a notch and has been melting away the lead that Syracuse had.

On March 24th, Syracuse was leading the Golden Snowball contest by 9.5 inches of snow. Right now that lead has slipped down to only a lead of 6.9 inches. Buffalo is just a small storm away from taking the lead over Syracuse. Could this finally be the season that Buffalo gets crowned the champions of the Golden Snowball contest? The cold air is still in the forecast so anything can happen and there is still a lot of time left whether we like it or not ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because of the way the season started with that big lake effect snow event that happened early in the season but missed the Buffalo airport I have to say that I am almost pulling for Buffalo to win this season. OK, reality just set in and of course being from Syracuse that thought just passed by. Go ‘Cuse ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rochester has always been a city that I have a hard time counting out no matter how late in the season it is and how far behind they are. Remember that since the Golden Snowball contest was started up again after a long break, Rochester has been the only city to dethrone Syracuse. Of course. that season was a pretty weird one with all of the cities being wayyyy below their normal seasonal averages.

Speaking of averages Syracuse is about to fall behind their normal snowfall totals to date unless they pick up some snow today. As of yesterday’s snow stats Syracuse is dead on what the normal snowfall to date should be for this time in the season. The normal snowfall to date is 119.1 and right now Syracuse is at 119.1 for this season. Both the National snow contest and the NY Golden Snowball contest tend to be close if Syracuse is close or below their normal snowfall. That’s good news for both Buffalo and Rochester ๐Ÿ™‚

The National Snow Contest – All 3 of the CNY/Western cities which are Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester are doing pretty good in the National Snow Contest. Syracuse had the lead but just got knocked down a notch from a city from Massachusetts. Click here for the National Snow Contest, The Golden Snow Globe!

Stay Tuned because this seasons snow race isn’t even close to being over yet, like it or not. Have a Super, Awesome Day Everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

First I want to give a big Thanks to Luke W. for your donation to the snow site. It helps out a lot and Thank You for taking the time Luke, I appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, Syracuse managed to not only hold on to the lead but when all the snowflakes were counted added to their lead but not by much. Right now it’s just a matter of 0.7 inches of snow separating Syracuse and Buffalo in the Golden Snowball contest.

If I my mind serves me right and it normally doesn’t by the way even when Lake Erie was frozen over early last season Buffalo kept getting snow so don’t let that fool you. No doubt it probably slows Buffalo down some but last season proved it doesn’t stop them ๐Ÿ˜‰ Last season I thought Buffalo was going to pull it off but I think Syracuse got lucky and the warm air moved in.

Last season was realty close and Syracuse had just enough snow to beat Buffalo by only 2.1 inches. I believe that last season was the closest the snow race has been since we started keeping stats in the 2002 – 2003 snow season. Is this the season that Buffalo takes the bragging rights away from Syracuse and better yet get’s Buffalo permanently engraved on the Golden Snowball Trophy?

Since the resurrection of the Golden Snowball contest Rochester has been the only city to dethrone Syracuse as snow champs. I’m still not even close to counting Rochester out this season. Rochester, just like Buffalo and Syracuse can tap into some Lake Effect snow or better yet some late season snow storms that most likely will be coming. I do think the time has come though for The Roc to start turning it up a notch and maybe even do a little snow dance to help them catch up ๐Ÿ˜‰
