First off Congrats to Rochester on joining the 100 inches of snow club ๐Ÿ™‚ Rochester is the 3rd city in the Golden Snowball contest to join both Syracuse and Buffalo in the 100 inch club. Now keep it going Roc to make this a 3-way race this season.

It was only about 4-5 days ago where it was starting to look pretty good for Syracuse. Syracuse had an almost 10 inch lead on Buffalo but as always and pretty much what happened last season Buffalo stepped it up a notch and has been melting away the lead that Syracuse had.

On March 24th, Syracuse was leading the Golden Snowball contest by 9.5 inches of snow. Right now that lead has slipped down to only a lead of 6.9 inches. Buffalo is just a small storm away from taking the lead over Syracuse. Could this finally be the season that Buffalo gets crowned the champions of the Golden Snowball contest? The cold air is still in the forecast so anything can happen and there is still a lot of time left whether we like it or not ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because of the way the season started with that big lake effect snow event that happened early in the season but missed the Buffalo airport I have to say that I am almost pulling for Buffalo to win this season. OK, reality just set in and of course being from Syracuse that thought just passed by. Go ‘Cuse ๐Ÿ˜‰

Rochester has always been a city that I have a hard time counting out no matter how late in the season it is and how far behind they are. Remember that since the Golden Snowball contest was started up again after a long break, Rochester has been the only city to dethrone Syracuse. Of course. that season was a pretty weird one with all of the cities being wayyyy below their normal seasonal averages.

Speaking of averages Syracuse is about to fall behind their normal snowfall totals to date unless they pick up some snow today. As of yesterday’s snow stats Syracuse is dead on what the normal snowfall to date should be for this time in the season. The normal snowfall to date is 119.1 and right now Syracuse is at 119.1 for this season. Both the National snow contest and the NY Golden Snowball contest tend to be close if Syracuse is close or below their normal snowfall. That’s good news for both Buffalo and Rochester ๐Ÿ™‚

The National Snow Contest – All 3 of the CNY/Western cities which are Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester are doing pretty good in the National Snow Contest. Syracuse had the lead but just got knocked down a notch from a city from Massachusetts. Click here for the National Snow Contest, The Golden Snow Globe!

Stay Tuned because this seasons snow race isn’t even close to being over yet, like it or not. Have a Super, Awesome Day Everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

First off as always I want to give a shout out and a Big Thanks to David G. for your generous donation to the snow site. They really do help out a lot and I really do appreciate you taking the time. Thank You David ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, It’s starting to look like some of the snow totals forecasted for today and tonight are dropping a little bit from a couple of days ago. Hey, Happy March everyone! Unfortunately looking at this weeks forecasts for all of the cities it’s looking like March will be starting off a little snowy. I guess the good news is some of the Highs for this week are in the 20’s and maybe 30’s. Pretty sad when highs of 20’s and 30’s is good news huh ๐Ÿ™‚

I think it will be interesting to see if Buffalo can take the lead from Syracuse and just as interesting to see if Rochester can play catch up this week with both cities. It’s looking like Binghamton may win this next snowball fight which is today and tonight. According to the forecasts they are expected to receive a little more snow than the rest of the cities in the Golden Snowball contest.

The images below show snow and at least a wintry mix for all of the cities looking ahead all the way to Thursday. Right now only 3.7 inches of snow separate Buffalo and Syracuse. I think for the time being I am going to say Syracuse will be on top of the snow hill come the end of the week. The again keep in mind that I am clueless so stay tuned and good luck to all ๐Ÿ˜‰ Below is what The National Weather Service has forecast for part of this week and keep in mind that most likely it will be changing. This is as of today, Sunday March 1st…

Have an Awesome Day Everyone and take it slow on the roads….

Updated 1/28 1:00 PM – It looks like Albany did pick up some snow after all. I did see on the radar yesterday that the clipper or whatever it was did head more west during the day and that it was passing through Albany. The snow stats that were just updated added another 5.6 inches to Albany’s snow totals which would bring their 2 day total to 5.8 inches of fresh snow.

Here is where it gets weird ๐Ÿ˜‰ Albany, NY is actually still in the running for the Golden Snowball trophy believe it or not. Are they a long shot to win it all? No doubt about it but if that storm would have come just a little more to the west the chances are that Albany could have been winning the snow contest. I have to wonder after the last couple of weeks if we may be set in a pattern now for the second half of the snow season. The last couple of weeks have been active as far as snow and storms go and it looks like the next few days it may continue. Keep in mind though that I am clueless and check with the pros for the latest weather.

Last season at this time Albany was over 43.5 inches behind Buffalo which led in the snow contest. This season they are only 17 inches behind which could be made up in a matter of a couple of snow storms. All of the cities in the GSB contest are lagging behind their average snow totals to date and Syracuse really stands out being almost 30 inches off their normal average to date this season. This could be the season that Albany wins it all. Wow, I just woke up from a bad dream ๐Ÿ˜‰ I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high my friends in Albany ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a Great Day All…

Updated 1/27 12:00 PM – I must have gotten caught up in the hype yesterday about Albany ๐Ÿ™ As of the last update they remain in last place and only 0.2 inches of snow is being reported for yesterday. Keep in mind that the overnight snow isn’t being reported yet. It looked like the storm stayed just to the East of Albany pretty much keeping them out of all of the snow action that some of the other cities to the east received.

NYC also dodged most of the heavy snow with the storm hanging just a snowflake to the north but WOW some of the other cities are getting hit really hard by the snow storm that will be hanging around the northeast coast most of today.

Buffalo has added a little to the lead the last couple of days and now have a lead over 11 inches of snow over the next best snowiest city Syracuse. Rochester and Binghamton continue to slip and slide back and forth in the number 3 and 4 slot on the snow hill and this time it’s Rochester coming out on top and dropping Binghamton down to the fourth place spot ๐Ÿ˜‰ Even though it’s been a pretty lame snow season for most of us the snow contest is still really close and all 5 cities actually have a shot at winning the Golden Snowball trophy still this season. Stay tuned for another update a little later and have a great day…

Updated 1/26 9 PM – Albany isn’t reporting as of the last update so it’s hard to tell how they are doing today. Binghamton got enough snow to pull ahead of Rochester. Stay tuned because when and if Albany reports it should be interesting ๐Ÿ˜‰

No, no and Hell NO! There will be no crazy talk like that ๐Ÿ˜‰ OK, there is a slim possibility I suppose but it will take a lot of snow from this snowstorm to slip past Buffalo and I don’t see that happening. Looking at what is in the forecast for Albany I think they have a real shot though at sledding all the way past Syracuse to claim the number two spot on the snow hill if Albany gets the high end of snow totals in their forecast. Wow, I think this is one of the longest posts I have made about Albany since keeping the snow stats for the Golden Snowball Contest… I wonder if our leaders in the capital took the next couple of days off ๐Ÿ™‚ I wonder if they have to shovel ๐Ÿ˜›

Albany trails Buffalo right now by a little over 20 inches of snow and is behind second place Syracuse by 9 1/2 inches. The last forecast I saw for Albany which was as of around 11 am today they were under a winter storm warning until 1 am Wednesday and calling for anywhere from 7 – 14 inches of new snowfall. Of course a slight change in the path of the storm could drop more snow or less so it will definitely be interesting to see where Albany ends up when this snow storm is done dumping snow on Albany. Click Here for The Latest Warnings and Updates for Albany!

From what I have seen it’s still looking like just a few inches of snow for the rest of the cities. NEVER take our word for it here though and always check with the pros like your local news channels and the National Weather Service. Things are always changing with these types of snow storms. Stay Tuned for more updates as the winter storm approaches and as the snow stats come in from the National Weather Service.

There is a lot going on in the National Snow Contest the Golden Snow Globe. Several of the cities on the east coast that have been quiet all season like New York City, Boston, Worcester and others should be climbing the snow mountain and maybe a few will make it into the top 10 or top 5. You can check that out Here at Golden Snow Globe..

Have an Awesome Day All and as Always, See Snow – Drive Slow!

First a Big Thanks to Jonathon T for your donation to the website. The donations help me out a lot at offsetting some of the costs and also lets me know the hours put into the contests are appreciated. Thanks Jonathon ๐Ÿ™‚

OK, I had to hurry up and get that out, that Buffalo is in last place in the Golden Snowball contest. Chances are I won’t be saying that for awhile with all of the lake effect snow that they are expecting the next couple of days. So, Yup, Buffalo is in dead last place and even behind Albany, snicker ๐Ÿ˜‰

From reading around the weather sites it’s looking like it is still a go for Buffalo to receive close to a couple of feet and maybe even more. Hopefully for you snow lovers the snow bands will set up just right and hang over the airport. Don’t underestimate this either because with the wind and that amount of snow there is no doubt it will be dangerous out there so Drive careful and stay safe.

buffalo and erie, pa lake effect storm

Predictions For Snow

I just added 0.6 of an inch to Buffalo’s totals so the chances are that it is snowing right now there. It will also be interesting to see if Buffalo can over take Erie, Pa in the National Snow Contest Here. Right now Buffalo isn’t even in the top 25 snowiest cities but if this all pans out they should most likely jump to at least second place in the contest. Depending on how Erie makes out with the lake effect snow Buffalo may even have a shot at taking the top spot on the snow mountain in the Golden Snow Globe contest. Stay Tuned!

It’s starting to look like it’s just a matter of time if not hours before some of us if not most will have our first measurable snowfall of the season. ย Binghamton has been holding onto that hefty lead of 0.2 inches of snowfall for awhile now while the rest of us are only showing a trace of snowfall.

Snow is in the forecast for all of the cities the next few days so which city do you think be the next to lead or will Bingo hang on to the top spot on the snow hill?

I was just reading around and came across a fun quiz on Syracuse.com that Glenn Coin put out. ย Of course being the Oracle I scored 100 (NOT ๐Ÿ™ ). ย A couple of the questions were a bit tricky but give it a shot if you think you know about Syracuse weather. ย Oh and let me know how you did. ย You can take the Syracuse Winter Quiz Here at Syracuse.com .

As for the National Golden Snow Globe contest things are heating up. OK, that doesn’t make sense and let’s say things are freezing up with all of the cold air moving across the country. We went from 9 cities with measurable snowfall to I think around 18 as of yesterdays update. You can check that out Here at the National Golden Snow Globe Contest.

Binghamton is the first city to strike first this snow season reporting 0.2 of an inch as of Friday. ย That only means one thing, that the Golden Snowball contest for the 2014-2015 snow season has begun. ย Way to go Binghamton ๐Ÿ™‚

None of the other cities are showing any measurable snow yet for this season. ย All of the Golden Snowball cities are reporting at least a trace of snow now though after the cold air we had on Friday. ย Is everyone ready to get this snow season going? ย Enough for now and let’s see which city is the next to report some snowfall…

Have a great weekend everyone ๐Ÿ˜‰
