Updated 1/12 7:00 PM – As expected from the earlier post, Buffalo has broken the tie between they had with Syracuse as of this last update. Buffalo has passed Syracuse to sit alone at the top of the Golden Snowball Hill. WTG Buffalo!

Below are the snow totals so far for today as of 4:00 to 5:00 PM from the National Weather Service:

Buffalo – 1.3 inches
Binghamton – 0.7
Syracuse – 0.2 inches
Rochester – 0.2
Albany – Not Reporting as Normal πŸ™

No doubt there is a lot of snow left to come down in the next 24 hours. It’s going to be interesting to see which city come out on top so stay tuned and take it slow on the roads folks πŸ˜‰
——————————————

1/12 1:00 PM – OK, I think the word the phrase “sleds into first” is overdoing it a bit but Buffalo is now in a tie with Syracuse in the snow contest. Buffalo added 2.2 inches of new snow yesterday to share the top spot with Syracuse on the Golden Snowball snow mountain. WTG Buffalo πŸ™‚

I think the tie between Buffalo and Syracuse will be short lived though. I’ve been looking around and seeing some pictures of some whiteouts in Buffalo just a little while ago. I’m guessing come the early evening update a little bit later Buffalo will probably own the top of the snow hill. It will be interesting to see if Rochester or Syracuse can keep up but I don’t think they will this round anyways.

Come the end of tomorrow from what I have been reading, I think it’s anyone’s guess as to which city will be in 1st place. Most likely it will be either Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse. Below are some links to the NWS site that has the latest weather for you city. Remember, I am clueless and just pretend to know what I am talking about. Always check with the Pros for your latest weather forecasts πŸ˜‰

Syracuse is going to be under a Lake Effect Snow Warning from 7 PM tonight(Tuesday) until 7 PM Wednesday night so they should be adding hopefully quite a bit to their snow totals. More Info Here National Weather Service Syracuse Snow

Buffalo is under a Lake Effect Snow Warning right now which goes until 10 PM tonight. You can check that warning out here to keep up to date Lake Effect Snow Warning for Buffalo

Rochester at last check is getting some decent snow squalls but so far no warnings have been issued. You can check out the latest weather watches and warnings for Rochester at The National Weather Service

So far there hasn’t been a lot going on other than light snow in Binghamton and you can stay up to date on Binghamton at the Binghamton Weather Statements and Warnings For Albany check out The National Weather Service for Albany here.

I know I haven’t been blogging much this season but lets face it, this snow season has been pretty boring and there really hasn’t been much to talk about until this week. I suppose I could blog about my personal life but Trust Me, that’s more boring than the snow season has been.

The National snow contest has been going pretty strong and it will be interesting to see if any of the NY cities can break into the top 25 this week. You can check out the Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest Here!

Have a Great Day Eveyone and drive safe. See Snow – Drive Slow πŸ˜‰

Updated 8 PM 2/9 –

Like Bruce said in the comment section “don’t stick a fork in ROC vs Albany yet.” No way would I do that and The Roc is looking good right now. I may hand a spoon to Rochester to help them out shoveling the little bit of snow they received so far this season though πŸ˜‰ Thats a joke Roc and looking at Syracuse’s snow totals so far I don’t think I can say much πŸ˜‰ Actually Rochester moved into the 3rd place slot on the snow hill this last update.

Binghamton dropped into the number 4 slot and Albany still remains in last place where they belong, I’M JOKING. Albany is actually having a good season so far and I think they will have more snow to report when they put out the next update. I still think it is going to be close between Rochester, Binghamton and Albany when the new snow totals do come out but I don’t know if they can catch Rochester right now..

Syracuse managed to melt a little more away from Buffalo and we will see if that continues this week. I’m reading about a couple of possible snow events coming up around Thursday. Check with the pros in your neck of the woods because my middle name is clueless πŸ˜‰ Have an Awesome Night All…
——————————
Updated Noon 2/9/15 –From what I am reading and from looking around it’s looking like Albany and Syracuse could make out the best from the current storm. Rochester so far is showing the highest snow totals for yesterday with 5.5 inches of snow on the day. That is probably a good thing and may be enough to keep them out of last place or Not. Looking at the radars I think it will be close as to what city ends up in last place when all is said and done πŸ˜‰

If Albany gets what they ere expecting it’s most likely going to be a good battle between Binghamton, Albany and Rochester to stay out of last place. Yup, Albany has a real shot at moving into the 3rd place spot on the snow hill this late in the season believe it or not πŸ˜‰

Syracuse has been able to cut into Buffalo’s lead a little bit and right now every snowflake they can melt away from Buffalo’s lead helps. Just a few days ago Syracuse was trailing Buffalo by around 17 inches. Right now Buffalo has a lead of 14.4 inches over Syracuse. There is a good chance the lead will get smaller come the next update to make the contest a little closer…

I don’t think Albany can catch second place Syracuse this round but they could melt some of the lead away that Syracuse has over them right now. There is only 5 inches separating the 3 cities in 3rd, 4th and last place right now so it will be interesting come the next snow update a little later on. Below are the snow totals that the cities received yesterday and not necessary the storm totals.. I’ll have to look back to Saturday night for those.

Snow Totals For Yesterday

Rochester – 5.5
Syracuse – 3.6
Albany – 3.0
Buffalo – 2.4
Binghamton – 0.8

Stay Tuned for Another Update a Bit Later and Stay Safe All!

Get ready because it’s time for another snowball fight in the Golden Snowball Contest πŸ™‚ This could be one that Buffalo may actually lose for a change. Buffalo has been enjoying being the King of the snow hill this season and has dug in pretty good but a few of the cities may move a little closer to them with this next storm. That said Buffalo just hit the 80 inches of snow mark for the season πŸ˜‰

Right now there are winter storm warnings out for most of the cities so check with your locals and the National Weather Service for updates. There are some links below with info as to what’s going on in your neck of the woods.

This could be a chance for Rochester, Syracuse and Albany to melt away a little bit of the lead that Buffalo has over the cities right now. From what I am reading and it still looks like the temperatures may play a part in this storm is that

Buffalo is expecting anywhere from 5-9 inches of snow between now and Monday night and so far is just under a Winter Weather Advisory at last check but that could could change. As always, keep in mind I’m clueless so check with the pros for the latest updates on this storm.

Albany may win this round and they are predicting anywhere from 9-18 inches for Albany at last check through Monday night. Still hard to believe how tough Albany is hanging this season πŸ˜‰

Binghamton is under winter storm warning at last check and is expected to receive anywhere from 6 to 10 inches between now and Monday night. It will be interesting to see if Binghamton can pass Syracuse for the 2nd place slot on the snow hill.

Rochester is also under under a storm warning and is expecting to receive 8 to 12 inches of new snowfall. Can they move into the number 2 slot??? No doubt it’s time for them to make some kind of attack on the snow hill. HINT to Rochester, measure the snow before the jets start their engines and take off this time, I’m joking πŸ˜‰

Syracuse like Rochester really needs to get in on this snowball fight. It seems like just about every snow event this season both cities have had some kind of snow dome or umbrella up to keep the snow away. Some decent snow has been around them but they just can’t seem to bring it in. Maybe this time. Syracuse is under a winter snowstorm warning and is forecast at last check to get anywhere between 8 to 12 inches through Monday night. Updated 6 PM 1/2/2015 – After a big snow storm it there always seems to be one of the stations that show MM which means more or less not reporting πŸ™ . This last update it’s Rochester’s snow stats that we have to wait for. So in other words these are the latest snow totals as of around 4 PM for all of the cities except for The Roc.

So far depending on what Rochester has to report it looks like it will be either Buffalo or Albany winning this latest round in the snowball fight. Hard to tell if it’s still snowing around Albany and if they will have more to add. Either way it looks like Buffalo will be adding a little to their snow lead. Below are the snow stats from the snowstorm that hit yesterday and today for all of the cities except for Rochester. As always, keep in mind my fuzzy math πŸ˜‰

Buffalo – Yesterday 4.4 – Today 7.8 Total = 12.2
Albany – Yesterday Trace – Today 11.8 Total = 11.8
Binghamton – Yesterday 1.9 – Today 8.6 Total = 10.5
Syracuse – Yesterday 1.2 – Today 8.5 Total = 9.7
Rochester – Yesterday 2.3 – Today MM, not reporting?

Updated Noon 1/2/2015 – It looks like this latest snow storm has just about passed through all of the Golden Snowball cities except for Albany at last glance at the radar. Β It should be interesting to see which of the cities got the most snow this last round. Β Lets hope that it isn’t Buffalo because their lead continues to grow over the rest of us.

Below are the latest snow stats from the National Weather Service and keep in mind that these are as of yesterday, 2/1/2015 and don’t include the overnight snowfall that the cities received. So far Buffalo is winning this round but of course with the way this snow storm was moving Buffalo would have been first in the snow and first out. Stay tuned for when the early evening snow stats come out a little later..

Snow Totals as of 2/1/2015

* Buffalo – 4.4
* Rochester – 2.3
* Binghamton – 1.9
* Syracuse – 1.2
* Albany – Trace

The national snow contest has been getting pretty interesting the last couple of days also with a lot of cities jumping around. It will be interesting to see if Buffalo, Syracuse or Rochester can move up in the contest. You can check the Golden Snow Globe Contest out Here!

Have a Great Day Everyone πŸ™‚

A Big Thanks to Margaret S. for your donation to the website. As always they help big time and the timing was perfect. Thanks Margaret, I truly do appreciate you taking the time πŸ™‚

A SNOW DANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED πŸ™‚ Time for Syracuse to make their move in the snow contest… To all of the meteorologists, your equipment is fine and don’t mind the weird pattern changes on the radars in the near future. Just a little snow dance, that’s all πŸ˜‰

I have to say that I am impressed with Buffalo so far this season holding on to the snow lead as long as they have. I would guess looking at the snow stats that sometime last week we hit the halfway mark for the 2014 – 2015 snow season. Of course none of us have a clue as to what Mother Nature and Father Winter have in store for us in the second half. If the last several days are any indication it could be a stormy second half to the snow season. There is another storm moving into some of our areas so keep an eye on it. This storm should help Albany out and maybe Binghamton. Click Here to Keep Updated on The Snow Storm!

Check out the current snow stats and you will notice that the normal snowfall averages to date for this time of the year are more than half of what each of the cities average for the snow season. In other words Buffalo has 56.4 inches of snow for what their normal snowfall should be to date which is more than half of what their Entire season on average totals are which is 94.7. It’s the same with the rest of the cities in the GSB snow contest.

Syracuse to date on average has 68.9 which is more than half of the total snowfall for an average season. Binghamton shows the normal snow to date at 42.0 inches which is just over their normal total season snowfall of 83.4. Rochester’s normal is 51.2, again just more than half of what the totals are for the entire season which are 99.5. Wrapping it up with Albany who by the way we may want to keep an eye on the next couple of days normals are at 30.4 and are just over half of the normal seasonal snowfall of 59.1 inches of snow… As always keep in mind that my fuzzy math shows up every now and then πŸ˜‰

So I would think it is safe to say that we have all made it through the first half of the Snow Bowl and it was pretty lame for most of us. I don’t think the second half is going to be as easy though if the past several days are an indicator. Another clipper that turns into a coastal or Nor’easter has already shaped up and some blizzard warnings are being post for some of the cities on the Northeast coast. Right now it is looking good for Albany and maybe Binghamton will be able to sneak some of it into their city to climb up the snow hill a little.

Rochester and Syracuse both have some kind of snow bubble over the cities. As of the last update both Binghamton and Rochester are tied for 3rd place or is that tied for 4th place? The scary part or embarrassing part is that one of those cities may be in last place by the end of Tuesday or even sooner depending on how this storm tracks and when. I think it would be funny to see Albany at the top of the snow hill after this storm is done with them. I think they trail Buffalo by too much right now but I do think they have a chance at taking the number 2 slot on the snow hill. Stay tuned and I’ll be posting the snow updates as they come into me.

Have an Awesome Weekend Alll!

A Big Thank You Bonnie L. for your recent donation to the snow site. I truly appreciate you taking the time to do so and they always help out. Thanks Bonnie πŸ™‚

Updated 11/19 6 PM – Ok, Buffalo has double what they had the last update and I still think when all is said and done they will have a pretty decent lead on the rest of us. Right now they are at 8.5 inches on the season adding another 4.5 inches of snow since the last update. I also still think they are going to make a run for the top slot in the National snow contest before all is said and done. Go Buffalo and Stay Tuned πŸ˜‰

It’s not too often I feel for our arch rival, Buffalo but I do today for a couple of reasons. First off when I checked the snow stats from NOAA and only saw 2.7 inches of new snow being at reported at the airport I was shocked. Especially after looking at probably over 100 pictures today of the unbelievable amounts of snow that has been falling all around the Buffalo area. Don’t get me wrong either.

I understand how lake effect snow is and how it can set up and dump several feet of snow like it’s doing now in the towns around Buffalo and probably even in Buffalo but when I was looking at the radar the last day or so it looked like it was set up where the airport was going to cash in too. Maybe they do measure after the planes take off instead of before like we do here in Syracuse πŸ˜‰

OK, all joking aside I am seeing reports of some epic snowfall in several cities with totals of 4 feet or more and counting. All I can say to all of you folks being affected by that much snow is Please stay safe. As much fun as the snow contest is, that is some serious snow and dangerous to say the least. Good Luck all and Congrats Buffalo on taking the lead…

Update 9:30 AM 3/13 – First off a big Thanks to Carol S. for your donation. It helps out a lot in offsetting costs and time put into the site. They all do and I really appreciate it Carol, Thank You πŸ™‚

Well the storm is over and it didn’t change a whole lot as far as the lead goes. Both Buffalo and Syracuse got just about the same amount of snow the last couple of days. Rochester ended up winning this round but need 2- 3 more of those storms to get near the top and that’s only if they miss Buffalo and Syracuse. I don’t see that happening. Bingo stayed out of this round and Albany picked up a handful of snow.

This snow storm did put Rochester and Syracuse over their totals for the season so anything now is just a bonus, lol if that’s what we want to call it πŸ™‚ So now 4 of the 5 cities are over their seasonal snow totals except for Binghamton who needs just 2 tenths of an inch to pass theirs.

This storm did make a pretty big difference in the National Snowiest Big City Contest in the country though. Syracuse has closed to within 2 inches of the leader which is Erie, Pa. Buffalo moved up into the number 3 spot on the snow mountain and Rochester is now in the top 5 snowiest cities in the US. You can check out the Nation Snow Contest here. Here is what I have for the cities for the storm totals or for the last couple of days.

Rochester – 16.2
Buffalo – 13.8
Syracuse – 13.6
Albany – 5.5
Binghamton – 0.4

Have an Awesome Weekend Everyone πŸ™‚

Update 9:30 AM 3/13 – First keep in mind that the overnight snow hasn’t been reported yet and aren’t included in these totals. That said it looks like as of now anyway, that Buffalo has melted a little bit of Syracuse’s lead away. Syracuse was ahead by 8 inches before this last batch of snow came out of the freezer and now it’s just over 6 inches. Still a lot of time left for Buffalo to catch Da’Cuse πŸ˜‰ Here are the snow totals for yesterday from NOAA. Looking at my driveway right now I’m guessing there will be more snow to add to the totals from the overnight snow so Stay Tuned. So far Rochester is winning this round and has gone over the 100 inch mark. Rochester is also finally starting to pull away from Binghamton and it will be interesting to see where they are in the National Snow Contest Here. Buffalo as of the last update has moved into the #3 spot on the snow mountain in that race to the top πŸ˜‰

Rochester – 14.9
Buffalo – 13.8 which broke a date record set back in 1959 of 7.3 inches. WTG!
Syracuse – 12.1 inches of snow.
—————————————

Update 10:30 PM 3/12 – I’m starting to think that the snow contest could get really interesting come tomorrow. I’m hearing that Buffalo’s snow totals for today may be at 13.5 inches right now. Depending on what happens during the overnight Buffalo has a good chance at moving even closer to the top of the snow hill and who know what else πŸ˜‰
————————-

Update 7:00 PM 3/12 – Just updated all of the cities and the snow race just got tighter. Both Buffalo and Rochester picked up just a little bit more snow than Syracuse but remember that every inch is big this late into the season. Here is what has been reported so far today.

Buffalo – 9.4
Rochester – 8.2
Syracuse – 8.0

STAY TUNED πŸ˜‰
——————-

Update 3:00 PM 3/12 – Steady snow in the Syracuse area with heavier snow expected anytime now. The winds have been quiet so far but are also expected to pick up soon. The last 2 hourly measurements I took it was snowing at a rate of 1 1/2 inches per hour. I was just watching Rochester on the weather channel and no doubt they are in a blizzard and it is nasty. How has the snow storm been where you are right now? Stay Safe and take it slow all… I will be getting an update posted when the new NOAA stats come out in awhile, normally between 5-6 PM. Should be interesting and stay tuned..
_____________________________________________________

I’m sure most of you have already heard about the new snow storm that is going to hit sometime in the wee hours of tonight and tomorrow. I’ve been reading around and seeing all kind of forecasts for different amounts of snow that the Golden Snowball cities will be getting. Syracuse has a slight lead over Buffalo right now of 8 inches and if I were a betting man, oh yeah, I am πŸ˜‰ I would be putting my money on Rochester I think for this round.

I’m also betting that Buffalo will be able to melt away some of the lead that Syracuse has right now and who knows, just a little shift in the storm and Buffalo could be the new king of the Snow Hill come the end of Thursday. I think it will also be interesting to see how much if any lake effect starts up when the cold air comes through.

Here is what we saw at last check of what NOAA was predicting. 18-24 inches of snow for Rochester, 14 – 18 inches for Buffalo, 8 – 14 inches for Syracuse and I’m not seeing anything for Albany. Below are some links to the national weather service and a map of the Buffalo – Rochester area. KEEP IN MIND – all of this could change and keep checking with the pros at your local stations or the links below for the most recent updates. Be smart and take it slow and stay safe everyone πŸ˜‰
